Now of course these rankings mean nothing but caught my attention this morning of the hot garbage level of disrespect for the Hokies coming out of spring ball.
"9. Virginia Tech Hokies
Who's rushing the passer? We didn't find much out this spring due to injuries. Who's playing QB? The deck only seemed to get shuffled more when Hendon Hooker performed so well in the spring game. Who's lining up at receiver? In the backfield? We have a lot more questions than answers for the Hokies at this point."
Everyone minus FSU and Louisville is having a QB competition this spring and Hale mentions our DE issues even though our top 3 DE's are out this spring. I could have seen us settle in between #4-6 but #9 is just inaccurate on so many levels.

Meh. Fuente is so tight-lipped about everything, I'm not surprised. All they know is that we lost a lot of talent, and this is nothing but bulletin board material for next season
Actually I hope nobody on the team even looks at this crap, even though I do like David Hale. "Pre-post-way-too-early-spring-top-25-power ranking-rating-teams" lists are always just a stretch for content.
I needed a good jimmy-rustling to start my week.
Might want to change this to "ACC" power rankings. #9 seems pretty good when you don't consider it is just the ACC being ranked.
In related news, LOLUVa twitter is boasting a preseason ranking of #14!! /s
Eh. In the commentary he is basically saying that he has no earthly idea how to evaluate us so I guess the conclusion was to just stick us somewhere.
Seems legit, we have a lot of starters to replace and it will be a year or two before the cupboard is no longer bare due to bad recruiticorning by the previous administration. Of course no one else in the Coastal is that great either so I fear the ACC wheel of destiney will be prevalent again this season. 2018 though...
That is an issue. We're just assuming they'll be good to go by fall.
I am not worried about any rankings until at least week 5 of the season.
http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/19242379/ohio-state-buck...
At the same time we are number 5 in the ACC per national ranking
wanna see my "Oh noes, ESPN didn't rank us as highly as I hoped in yet another pointless offseason poll" face?
here it is:

GUYZZZZ, DA U IS BAK FOR REALZ THIS TIME.
I thought they meant Buzz Williams beating Miami.
These way too early power rankings be like
Not going to read before I comment: Miami is top team in Coastal?
Correct:
1. FSU
2. Clemson
3. DA U
The good guys are 9th. LOLUVA is in dead last which did my soul a world of good to see.
Does anyone know why Miami is getting so much love? They lose as much as we do, so you'd think the default would be to give us the benefit of the doubt considering we were the better team last year?
They bak.
Obligatory:
Obviously you are not aware of just how good Miami is in the preseason. Historically Miami dominates the coastal in the preseason. We are all lucky to even be considered their competition in these next couple of months.
Miami atop the preseason coastal division
Hale got Richt rolled.
For a serious answer, they were better than their record last year, aside from the mid-season stumble they were very good and were a top 15 team by advanced statistics (14th S&P+, 10th FEI, 17th in Massey). That plus they get the benefit of the doubt being a prior power and they have the number 1 recruiting class in the nation for 2018 (doesn't affect this year obviously, but it feeds into people buying into Richt as a good coach and good fit for them).
Also, Miami has recruited very well even through their down years and now finally has a coach who can get a lot out of it. They get overrated because of their name, for sure, but they have a lot going for them.
But how was their time of possession?
This seriously made me laugh.
I don't have a problem with VT being ranked low. I don't even have that big of a problem with Miami above VT. But can ESPN seriously not put any other team at the top? Every single year, every dang pole, it's always Miami. It's obviously never based on anything at all since they are wrong every freaking time. It's old and boring. Maybe if they had Stephen A. Smith yell it at me I would like it better.
I believe that's a different type of pole

....why the fuck does she have a baby with her?
Extra weight means extra gainz. /s
Seriously though, what's the big deal? There is an entire section of the exercise/fitness industry based around using stripper poles (do any of you remeber Stripaerobics?). It looks like she is either at home or in a studio, so maybe she wanted to get in a workout and couldn't find a sitter. Or maybe she likes bonding with her child and the kid thinks it is fun to spin around with Mommy. It's not like she's on a pole in a strip club with her baby and this is Take Your Daughter To Work Day. Or, maybe she is a stripper and is trying to stay in shape and work off the baby weight so she can get back to work to make money to feed that baby.
Maybe those of you who are so viscerally put-off by this gif should try to put into words why you feel that way.
It's got little to do with the stigma of stripping. It's more about how precarious that situation is. Granted she's obviously very talented, but I can think of safer ways to bond with your child.
It's called baby wearing. It's an entire subculture/hobby in the mom world. It's mostly about bonding but also about how much stuff you can buy to wear your baby and also to see all the things you can do while wearing a baby.
Buffalo Bill approves.
A few google searches reveal that she is an outspoken advocate of "attachment parenting", which when taken to the extreme means maintaining bodily contact with your child 24 hours a day. I assume she's trying to point out ho it's possible to keep your child close, no matter what you're doing.
So a girl I used to know in high school has been a huge advocate of this. Her husband is a marine and is away a lot of the time, and she finds that the wraps (aside from the emotional benefits) have helped her manage the household better by having 2 hands free. She's also gotten a lot of positive recognition for her work in getting a lot of these "wraps" free of charge and giving them to other military mom's with their husbands deployed abroad.
Not my cup of tea, but I think the practice has value.
When I worked from home, I would routinely wear one of the babies while sitting at my desk. Hands were free to work and it gave my wife a break from carrying the kid around. It can be very useful...or it can be some weird obsession pushed by new-age hippie mom cults. I've heard it both ways.
sounds like really good birth control...
Surprised it's Hale, he's usually very good. As a fanbase I think we need to get used to disrespect from various media being a consequence of Fuente's unwillingness to play their game. Their job is to report and create stories, if you shroud your program in secrecy media folks are bound to retaliate and not give you the benefit of the doubt.
Ohio State springs forward as new No. 1 in 2017 top 25
So ESPN updated their Way-Too-Early top 25 and stuck us at #22 with only 4 ACC teams ahead of us. So yea basically these "Way-Too Early" rankings are super trustworthy...
Much ado about nothing, wake me up Sept 3 at 7:29 please.
Hopefully that's AM, otherwise you've missed out on all the tailgating.
Leg for anything Airplane.
Please keep underselling us - Id much rather have preseason rankings out of the top 25 than in, but close enough that when the season starts and we start winning we move up further. Its a fine line. You want to be out of the discussion to stoke motivation but not toooo far out that wins dont move the needle.
Just go down to Miami this year and beat their asses senseless......again.
I never noticed just how badly Mihota shook that tackle. The dude ended up with his back towards the line of scrimmage
NCSU is also not #5 in the ACC good. They had to upset UNC to make a bowl game this year.
Is this the point where I'm supposed to get mad over the opinion of one blogger, or do I have to wait for Dinich to post something?
It's the offseason. I can't yell about our ineffectual run game so this is the next best thing.
Oooh, does this mean we can still go on and on about our lack of a run game while we're putting up 30-40 a game on the scoreboard because of our attack through the air?
Yes. We can win by 100 and we will still find a way to be disappointed about 75 yards on the ground. That's what we do.
Nice! That was my favorite part about last year!
And then someone can get upset when our DBs face guard receivers because their peewee coach told them not to do that.
How about AA's blog post?
http://www.espn.com/blog/acc/post/_/id/99265/coastal-division-post-spring-stock-report-buy-duke-miami
Yea please. Considered a contender? If he returned we would be hands down favorites. We're a contender without him.
I feel like no one is talking about Pitt losing their OC too
I see what she's doing... telling everyone to sell so she can buy low at the start of the season and profit like a gangsta later on
straight up baller move there, AA
This. ^ Hokies win out, no one remembers this article. Duke wins out, she can say how prophetic it was.
Oh but
ifwhen VT wins out, she can legitimately claim our young players surprised and that, had our skill been known during the spring, it would have been different. Its all about hedging bets in the preseason. Thats why every prediction is lathered in disclaimers. No sense in getting excited or pissed about anything.
Unless they say we're going to be good, at which case they're all geniuses. See: Way too early basketball predictions
ROFL, the reasoning in that article made no sense. The way I read that she has NO CLUE what's going to happen in the coastal next year so she semi-randomly picked teams to buy-sell-hold to at least have something "interesting" to write.
Really though, who's going to be the top dog in the coastal next year? Could be VT, GT, Miami, or Pitt, with no one having a real edge into we have more clarity over how some new players gel into their roles. I think we all know that Miami is overhyped again, but there is a real possibility they could be in there depending on how things go.
The only think you can say for sure is that it won't be UVA.
This story sounds familiar. Someone look up the way too early 2016 ACC predictions. I'm sure they correspond almost word for word
