Tomorrow, May 6th is Free Comic Book Day. The only nationally recognized superhero holiday. Much like Star Wars Day, it involves a lot of costumes but also a lot of free comics. I would encourage anyone to get to the local comic book store and get some free comics available, this year's slate is really packed.

I'll start with a question that I've had ever since I was 7 years old.
If bad guys just stay out of the water, Aquaman is pretty much a moot point. Right?
Unless your spear can literally blast water at people. Aquaman also has super strength, is bulletproof, able to leap tall buildings, etc. On the Villains side, most of the villains that Aquaman faces in the comics are already in the water and want to claim the throne of Atlantis. PLUS The Guy can literally control water with his mind!
Black Manta- A would-be conqueror of Atlantis from the surface world, the murderer of Aquaman's infant son, Arthur Jr., and Aquaman's archenemy.
Ocean Master- Another long-time foe of Aquaman. Ocean Master was revealed in the 1960s to be Aquaman's fully human half-brother, Orm Marius, who had grown up in the shadow of his heroic half-brother and was jealous of his powers.
When Aquaman fights with the Justice League, he serves as just a strong dude with a spear basically
Holy Shit! I didn't know that Aquaman could summon Sharknados.
Geoff Johns has really transformed the character
I don't want to speak out of turn here, but I think that most, if not all, of us with spears can literally blast water at people.

This may spark debate, because many people will want to voice their bad and wrong opinions, but it seems an opportune time to remind everyone that Spider-Man is the best superhero of all time.

Speaking as someone who is only halfway into the comic scene, Cap used to be my favorite superhero, but then I found myself firmly on Team Stark.
Spider-Man is high on my list, but I have many favorites.
I'd say right now, everyone is team !Steve Rogers. When they brought him back last year, they "revealed" he's secretly an Agent of Hydra. As of the start of the Secret Empire storyline, apparently the entire Marvel Universe has been a lie since WWII -- Hydra and the Axis really won with the help of their double agent, Captain America, and the Allies used the Cosmic Cube to re-write history and make Cap their hero.
Does that have anything to do with the current Agents of Shield TV show story arc, where some characters are plugged into an alternate history computer simulation?
No clue. I only have over the air TV (which doesn't include ABC oddly) and no Netflix.
Marvel is still funding that?
Agents of Shield is having a really good season IMO. Wish the DC shows over on the CW would follow suit.
In all seriousness that is 100% true. Huge Flash fan but in all honesty it has gone conpletely off the rails. All three seasons have been the same. Arrow have been trying to integrate a new team and the transition has been met with an unhappy response and LOT (legends of tommorow) is just taking a whole bunch of DC Characters and jamming them all together for no reason. SuperGirl is 75% boredom and standing around. Best Superhero shows out there are the Marvel Netflix ones, which pains me being a diehard DC boy.
The first 2-3 seasons of Arrow were fantastic. It was a true gem in the super hero genre. Since then however it has gone WAY down hill. The Flash came out of arrow but I just could just never really get into it.
I'm not sure I would go that far, the show keeps jumping the rails. Right now, they're essentially doing an alternate-history version of The Matrix, where they have to go around and convince some people that are plugged in that the world they're "living" in isn't real. For what it is, it's fairly well-done, but it's still pretty ridiculous.
That's interesting and kinda confusing. I need to delve deeper.
Replying to myself since it's kinda tangential, but I definitely think the more interesting conversation is favorite villains, of which Kingpin and Deathstroke are tops for me.
Also The Punisher is the best of both worlds.
Kingpin might be the most under rated villain in all of MCU. I really like how D'Onofrio portrays him in the Netflix series.
I don't think they could have cast the role better. He owns it in every scene.
Favorite villain is an interesting debate. To me, they frequently get defined more by who they are fighting, which is why I can't think about Green Goblin without thinking about Spider-Man, Red Skull with Cap, etc.
My favorite has always been Magneto, mostly because he's actually an interesting character with a motive that goes beyond "Money! Power!" The Hood was pretty cool (not sure if he's still around), mostly due to his audacity of just taking on the Avengers to build an empire.
Moon Knight I think also gets a shout, because he's in that in between like Punisher. He's nominally a good guy, but he does lots of whack shit and he's legitimately insane. The problem he's just a Batman knockoff in a white suit.
Magneto is a great one too. That depth is the reason I like Kingpin so much too. I like it when you can sympathize with a villain to an extent, even though it's clear they're evil.
Do you watch The Venture Brothers? They have a character that is an amalgamation of Kingpin and Daredevil named Monstroso.
Bat Man is who Spider-Man dreamed of being after he knocked backed one too many at Aunt May's house.
Do you know why Spider-Man never wore a suit with nipples on it? Because he's not a sissy who has to wear armor.
I'm a spidey fan myself.
The Dark Knight is only so "dark" because he's jealous that he has no legitimate superpowers and has to throw gobs of money around at expensive gadgets to compensate.

Have to give a big shout out to Comic Logic in Ashburn. They had a great event at their store for Free Comic Book Day. As you walked up they had free face painting for the kids just outside, then as you go in the door, there is a set of tables with about 60 options of free comic books that ran the gamut between kids and adult only material. They also have several tables of $1 comics, had several local comic artists that were there with their work, plus other discounts and highlights throughout the store. Pretty great way to gain fans. My daughter lit up at having her face painted like a butterfly and then she got a Barbie comic among other girly/kids comics.
