RADFORD — Retired Virginia Tech football coach Frank Beamer got a new title on Saturday: doctor.

Radford University conferred a doctorate of public service on Beamer, a 1972 alumnus of the school, who gave the spring commencement address to nearly 1,700 graduates.

What a great person to have giving the commencement address.

Also for anyone who doesn't know how CFB got burned when he was a child:

At 7 years old, Beamer was using a broom to push trash from the family garage into a fire when he knocked over a gasoline can. The spilled gas erupted in a fireball, igniting Beamer's clothes. His older brother, Barnett, tackled Beamer in the front yard and rolled him in the grass until the flames were out — but not before Beamer's face, right arm, chest and back were badly burned.

Wow thanks. Rumor I always heard was a car accident was where he got burned

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

read his book. It's great.

Onward and upward
