Singer Chris Cornell from Soundgarden, Audioslave, Temple of the Dog......reported to have died.
Rocker Chris Cornell, who gained fame as the lead singer of the bands Soundgarden and later Audioslave, has died at age 52, according to his representative.
IMHO, one of the, if not the best rock singers in the last few decades.

Bad Puns aside, me and my brother saw their final concert where they broke up as Soundgarden when he just walked off stage mid set and the rest of the band was looking at each other confused. Sad day, he had such an amazing voice. RIP

I knew I'd heard his name before -- this was it. I'm not a "knows the names of band members" person but Bond movies run deep in my family.
His first solo album was very strong then he signed on to sing this and I was full hype. He totally set the tone to this movie and setting off Daniel Craig as the new James Bond.
Very sad. Reports are saying its a possible suicide, and he was found in his hotel bathroom hours after they played a concert last night at Fox Theater in Detroit.
I saw that the final song they played last night was "In My Time of Dying." It's tragic regardless, but I really hope it wasn't suicide.
RIP to one of the greatest rock singers of all time.
Damn! One of the most talented vocalists around. Incredible pipes, no need for a ton of processing to sound amazing. Soundgarden was very influential to me growing up. Sad.

Dude lived hard. His voice is easily recognizable and everything he touched turned to gold. I still think that Audioslave album is one of the best make in the 2000s and I wished they had a longer run. This is disappointing, but I consider music lovers lucky to have had him as long as we did, it seemed like all the great ones from his era went too soon. Layne Staley and Alice in Chains is one that I think left dozens of hits on the table.
Man, I am bummed about this. The whole grunge scene reminds me of my last year at Tech ('91). I was just watching the movie "Singles" the other day and loved all the cameos Chris and the other rockers made in the movie. Birth Ritual and the Jesus Christ Pose are 2 of my favorite songs by Soundgarden. RIP
I was always partial to Rusty Cage. Either way it's seems sometimes mental illness goes hand in hand with artistic talent.

Arnold's was a pizza and sub joint that was once located where Sharkey's is now. I remember Mike's grill, Hokie House, and The Cellar. My memory is a bit foggy though.
Plus Ton80, Buddys, Bogens, South main (117), Bojo's, Big Al's, The Underground, and TOTS was The Balcony back then......(86-92 were my years in the burg)
Ahh right, the Balcony! Man, it's been awhile. It was TOTS, then The Balcony, then TOTS. I was there 87-91. I do remember Big Al's, too. Good times!

Yes...i can't remember the name of it right now but they shared the service hallway with Bojos / Steves hot dogs where i worked. We used to trade food all the time. The entrance was around the corner from Souvlakis and across the street from Mish Mish.

Google Maps tells me yes. I don't know Sycamore Deli, but that's where Pedro's was when I was in school ('92-'97)

It sure was from 86-92...we had The Kind, The Yams From Outer space, The Electric Woodshed, About Time.....so many others escape my memory right now.....but i was friends with all those bands and used to have them play gigs at my frat house (APX) on Lucas drive......$3 and all u could drink. Man those were the days......

Yeah...i know the kind and the shed are stiill playin...so are the yams i think. Youtube has some stuff for all of them. I know billy jackson the original shed drummer moved to ohio in the mid 90's...dont know what ever happened to him....i know that wendy and mark mccloed and tom from the kind still play, although Tim taylor the drummer now lives and plays with a band in hawaii...

Main place I watched the yams/woodshed/kind was at the "party palace", a rental house that was located where the round-a-bout is now. It was decrepit and a bit scary, there was a big hole in the floor... You didn't want drink so much that you forget it was there. I think it happened during a party when it failed the dancing load test.
1999 was pretty memorable.

My first job out of VT was for a mortgage company and we processed a few of Cornell's mortgages. He was a legitimately good dude to us and even sent everyone thank you notes after his loans were processed. Sad to see it end like this.

Man, that guy could wail. Myself (and, of course, many others) consider Cornell to be 'our generation's' version of Robert Plant with a bit of a more punk/metal edge than Plant's bluesy croon.
Saw a tweet from someone that we should go find Eddie Vetter and wrap him in bubblewrap. Not sure why people aren't mentioning Kim Thayil and Dave Grohl more in these conversations, but hey, it's Cornell's year.
