Michael Vick officially retires from the NFL

The Atlanta Falcons held a ceremony about an hour ago to honor Vick and Roddy White as both have decided to retire from the NFL. Seems not so long ago when he was scaring us to death with that leap into the endzone against James Madison.

Vick certainly deserves some honors and acknowledgement from the NFL regarding his retirement.

He was a great player.

Outspoken team cake advocate. Hates terrapins. Resident Macho Man Gif Poster. Distant cousin to Dork Magic. Frequently misspells words.

Really glad to see the Falcons are welcoming him back for this. I hope to see him on the sidelines in Blacksburg more often this fall

He recently said he is coming for the Clemson game. Would be huge for recruiting.

Noice

He's going to make one hell of a recruiter for us if that's what he wants to do

It'd be awesome to add him to the staff.

Rather have him outside doing his thing.

BUT IS HE STILL PLAYING FLAG FOOTBALL THO?!?!

Didn't he retire months ago?

He did, but I'm guessing the Falcons are signing him to a one-day contract or something so he can retire as a Falcon and not an unsigned FA

Are they required to pay him something for that since it is technically a contract? Something super small like $1 or something?

Good question, I would guess it's just a formality. I've never seen any financial details, but I know it's a pretty common practice for players who spent the majority of their productive careers in one place before going somewhere else.

I'm not even sure that's what happened here, the Falcons had a ceremony for these two today, but I never saw anything about contracts, one-day or otherwise

They didn't do one-day contracts this time. But usually when those are done it is without any actual pay, or they agree to an amount that is "forgotten" about.

Rip his freaking head off!

The ones that I have seen that I liked the most was where they donated to the charity of the players choice the amount equivalent to the jersey number of the player or something similar, so since Vick wore 7 it might have been $700 or $7000
