Not sure how many people follow @LegacyZebraCFB, but he give insight on officiating over on r/cfb. He is reviewing the pre-season training tapes and had the following to say:
CFO preseason training tape agrees with me. Replay overrules the IW with immediate recovery and VT should have kept the ball. #BelkBowl https://t.co/DPD1mJkWHO— Legacy Zebra (@LegacyZebraCFB) June 20, 2017

To be honest, that game should have never gone to overtime and we are as equally culpable for allowing the game to do so.
I know this happens to every team but god doesn't it feel like we have taken more of these "we should have won that" than most.
Oh, Pac-12 officials... they try so hard.
Not hard enough.
That Sugar Bowl was unforgivable.
Cartoons Plural says the call should never have gone against Virginia Tech.
Man, I was screaming at the tv so much after that play. 110% sure that my officiating knowledge backed me up during the game.. glad that someone else backs it, too.
That was me too, but then I found 35 reasons to get over it
That was honestly so mind-boggling. They kept showing it on the big screen and at no point did Arkansas ever possess the ball.
I'm just frustrated Bret was allowed to interfere in that call so much.
^This.
It's one thing to go out and argue a call or ask for an explanation. He could've defended a thesis with how long he was out there.
Bret busting in on the ref's huddle:

"I'm on the rules committee!!!!"
What was even worse was sitting in the Arkansas section 10 rows up in on the 40 yard line watching him get involved with that radio wire wedged up his ass over his track suit.
You were really watching, huh?
Fuck Bret Bieadouche.
But don't let this officiating disaster distract you from the fact that Arkansas did in fact blow a 24-0 lead.
What made me the maddest was during the broadcast, Bert gave his little halftime interview and said "when I saw we had possession with the inadvertent whistle, I knew the ball was ours." But not only did Arkansas never have possession, that isn't even the reason the refs gave for giving Arky the ball back. So Bert spent 45 minutes without calling a timeout arguing a wrong point with refs only to not even understand the call the refs actually made.
Wait...this is the game we WON...right?
Exactly why I was able to get over it fairly quickly.
At least this call didn't cost us big halftime lead...

I just rewatched this game (well the 2nd half) on YouTube and oh boy were there some odd calls. This debacle, a delay of game on the defense, an illegal snap on Arky, the refs were certainly being creative that night.
I took my Charlotte native, non-football watching brothers to this game as I was visiting them for the holidays. It was their first college football game. The first half was a complete embarrassment, and not just because of the way we were getting steamrolled. There's no excuse for a refereeing crew to spend 15 minutes debating calls and STILL get it wrong. It was one of the least fun halves of football I've sat through and it wasn't making a good impression on my family.
Fortunately we hung in there and the boys worked some magic out there. By the end of the game my brothers said that was one of the coolest sporting events they've been to.
So this thread just inspired me to go back and watch this sped up version of the game (minus the first 2 minutes for some reason)...
Pro Tip: If you let yourself suffer through the first half it makes the second that much better.
You're saying this to the same fanbase that will never let go of an incompletion call.
FTFY
Part of the reason you make a stink is so that the refs study the playbook a bit harder and know the rules.
Boom. Next question
