Virginia Tech opened as a 7-point underdog against Clemson, a 6-point dog at Miami, and a 7.5-point favorite home against Pitt.

I think the advantage they get is that they can hear their signals without the background noise.
I would not touch that Pitt game at -7.5 in a million years
Yeah that seems a bit high. I'd think more like -5.5. Clemson at -7 seems about right. Miami at -6 does not.
If I had to bet I'd take the underdogs in each game, but I don't have to bet so I won't.

West Virginia is a 6 point dawg to Texas, who, may I remind you, lost to Kansas.
GT is also an 18 point dog to Clemson.
Last year's Clemson GT game was one of my favorite things to watch. Clemson's insane talent up front just crushed that option game and it truly felt like PJ couldn't adjust his way around it like he normally does. They were simply overmatched and were shut down for the part of the game that mattered

Given what Fuente did for us I wouldn't bet against Tom Herman pulling off a similar feat at Texas. They won't win their conference, but they'll get at least 8 wins this year.
Texas has better talent than the 2016 Hokies, albeit a slightly tougher schedule. They have games AT USC, home against Oklahoma (with a first year coach) and a potentially good Oklahoma State team. Very possible that they could have a 10 win season this year. OK and OKst are the only two B12 teams I see as more likely to win the conference, and even they have question marks.
But but but all the Eers on r/cfb say they're gonna win it because they got a qb with a whole 5 1/2 games under his belt.
Yea I wouldnt be a cent on that Pitt game. The Miami and Klempson lines are worth playing with

They have our over/under around 9, so those are actually interesting lines. I'm curious about what the other 2 games they think could win the under are. It won't be UNC, so maybe GT and an upset? We're favorites against WVU barely, so that could be the half loss to get to 8.5.
I wish someone would believe in me half as much as Vegas believes in Miami...has to be invigorating.
I won't believe in Miami until they can show that they can take a loss to FSU and not let it derail their entire season. For the last few years, their losses to FSU has just broke the will of their team and they just fall completely apart. I don't know if it is lack of mental toughness or what.
I don't think I could live with myself if I consistently let someone down that often.

That's a bit more points than I would expect for a Miami team that needs to replace their QB and top playmakers, Njoku and Coley, especially with Coley's likely replacement being a freshman. Their only losses on defense were three of their four DBs. They are near the top of FBS in returning starters, but near the bottom in returning production.
I wouldn't go anywhere near that Pitt line, even with them losing all of their offensive production and their OC.
Just remember, these lines aren't what Vegas thinks will happen. They are the lines that Vegas thinks will make people bet equal amounts of money on each side.
Pitt not gona miss a beat on offense. Still have all American Henderson, Ollison will return to 2015 carries and Weah probably the most explosive WR in ACC. Pitt going to surprise especially if the DBS improve only Lil bit.
This is true. They're more solid that I'd like them to be.
I wouldn't be that confident in Pitts offense. Pat is now on his 3rd OC. This one also isn't an and up comer. Shawn Watson was stripped of playing calling duties at Texas in 2015 before getting fired and was the offensive quality control coach at Indiana last year. He is also long time friends with Pat. This is a get someone who won't bolt after one year hire.
That being said we need to beat Pitt a few years a row before Im confident that we have slayed that demon.

I've seen that flow chart somewhere else. Neither work out well for our opponents.
Taking off the orange and maroon glasses, we probably have more questions on offense to answer than Miami with less heralded recruits / talent to backfill (according to national rankings). In addition Richt has a much longer record of rebuilding successful 9-10 win seasons at a P5 school than Fuente.
Not saying I'm not optimistic in our chances this year, but on paper this is not that far off base.
"Rebuild" is a strong word for what Richt did in any of his seasons at UGa. His teams won 8 games in all but one season with him as HC
Edit: Not trying to take away from his talents as a Head Coach, I just think strictly talking rebuild, that crown has to go to CJF. He took a god awful 3 or 4 win Memphis team to 10 wins in only 3 seasons and then did the same with our middling 7 win team in his very first year. Richt hasn't really faced a situation like either of those.

Agree Richt was more of a reload coach - and never had to rebuild a program from the cellar. However he did lose several first round picks over time and was able to reload with new talent to remain competitive (unlike most SEC teams). He also did it in one of the toughest conferences each year.
While Fuente took a hot mess in Memphis and turned it into 10 win season (all to his credit), he also did it once with under-recruited, superstar QB. He has not yet had the opportunity to demonstrate sustained success against top competition after losing some key players - this year will be a good, first look. Richt has that on his resume - his fault lies in the inability to take it to the next level and deliver a championship.
Yup, this season and next will really be the true litmus test for both
