Wes Keene, father of true freshman TE/H-Back Dalton, shared transformation photos of his son's offseason weight room gains. According to Wes, Dalton added 17 pounds under Ben Hilgart's tutelage.

Keene moved some impressive weight in high school, but got his body ready to play ACC competition over the last 6 months.
French reviewed Keene's film in February (along with Caleb Farley and Kalil Pimpleton's):
His 6-4 frame can seemingly carry 240-ish pounds (225 on latest roster) as he further develops his body in the weightlifting program.
Keene's size and physical nature indicate that he has the potential to be a significant upgrade as a blocker protecting the C-gap and moving to trap edge defenders. Keene is a good athlete who can get his body into the proper position to seal the edge.
Given his size and Tech's immediate need for improved blocking in the running game from its tight ends/H-Backs, I would expect Keene to get immediate playing time.

Damn. He put on slabs. I think Vice or Teller has him working on the mustache game as well.
Beast mode, he could be our strongest QB since Jim Druckenmiller /s
Damn.
Playing the game on and off the field with that mustache
Someone send 7LOP out on some investogatory journalism. With a mustache like that, he's well on his way to becoming the next Seth Dooley
Damn!
Come on, you know I'm not the only one who jumped straight to Predator...
Yes I am.
I didn't know we signed Andy Samberg![]()

Hot Rod got ripped!
He finally mastered the ultimate punch!

Speaking of getting ready to play. Does anyone know when fall practice opens? I've tried looking everywhere I can think of on the interwebs and this seems to be a well kept secret. Gotta be late next week or early the following week I would imagine. Perhaps its out there in the twittersphere and I am just a twittidiot.
Looks like next Tuesday:
#sauce (last paragraph)
Thanks. Didn't make it to the bottom of that. Guess I'll drink for being lazy or just because why the hell not?
edit: to late ill drink! its Friday anyways!
17lbs of muscle in 6 months. That is pretty impressive.
Yeah. But 13.5lbs of that is stash!
That's awesome. Looking forward to seeing him play.
Imagine this dude as a 4th year starter at H-Back. If he's the match for Fuente's system that he's advertised to be, look out.
Place at the table
Looks like he is working on a mullet and pornstache too, I like it
Mullet! Look out Joey Phillips!!!
That tweet is one (of many) reasons I get such a good chuckle out of Hoo fans thinking this will be their year (to beat us, make a bowl game, beat an FCS team, whatever) because of how hard their kids are working. Well, our guys clearly aren't just sitting around twiddling their thumbs either.
You must not have heard that they work harder at UVA because they have to earn their numbers...and weight room time....and practice time.
Don't forget those intensive sessions where they're taught how to run out of the tunnel.
Does DDP Yoga yield similar results?
But but #hardthingstogether?

So did I.
There is some footgage of Keene working as a receiver from the Spring Game in my quarterback review.

I think his impact in the passing game will mostly be as a potential blocker on screens and off play action bootlegs. He isn't a polished route runner yet. But, I think he plays right away as the HBack in short yardage and given how much Cornelsen used play action on short yardage in the red zone, he will make an impact on the scoreboard. Worst case, he is the best blocker that can play the H right now (and I think Peoples, who will play some H, is one hell of a blocker too.)
6'4", 240lb of muscle, athletic, not a great route runner/pass catcher---Sounds like a DEnd to me. Any chance Bud gets a look at him? After all, he lost Farley to Cornelson, he needs some compensation.
Route running and pass catching skills can be taught.
Twitch cannot.
He can catch fine. Just not a guy who is going to be beating dbs with double moves. Think a more athletic Ryan Malleck where he will be used in the same way, but will get more YAC.
Anyone else feel kinda dirty as they clicked on this thread?
How long until he makes us stop missing Sam Rogers?
(I did NOT say how long until he makes us forget Sam. What he did to Eli Apple is right up there with MV7 in morganhole, Tyrod to Danny/Dyrell v. Nebraska and Logan Thomas the Tank Engine v. Miami for my favorite Hokie plays ever)
I don't know that he will be as noticeable as Sam because he won't get as many touches. But physically, he can execute some blocks that Rogers struggled with and is a much bigger target.
I know that expectations need to be tempered. In my uneducated mind I want to see him as a combination of Sam and Bucky, but I know that's not right. Your analysis and my limited understanding of it make it seem like he fits CornFu's system almost perfectly, so I'm excited to see how that works out and where he can help get us.
I've always been huge on Keene because he went to H.S. 20 minutes away from where I grew up, in a part of the world that hasn't produced a lot of Hokies.
He isn't going to be like Bucky as a 5-8 targets per game threat in the passing game. Again, think how Rogers was used in the passing game, and put a 6'5 guy in those same types of routes and numbers of targets. Y dump off PA, bootlegs, blocking on screens etc. I don't think he is going to be a guy running quick comebacks or sluggos.
More players posting body change pictures. Can't embed on mobile but so far I've seen Walker and Murphy.
"Body by Hilgart" - nice
Walker looks good with the muscle he's put on through his upper legs. That'll help a ton. Murphy seemed to just fill out his upper body and is still super lean. Both guys have been putting in work. Hilgart was a great hire.
Ick at 300lbs is good will be 305 in another year. And not sloppy at 300 is hard to do. Lots of beef. 630lbs of DT him and Tim
(On mobile, simply request the page as desktop and the embed will be there.)
For Twitter!! This changes so much.
I remember when you could open the door on a Chevrolet (circa 1960's) and it would say "Body By Fisher" on the door sill. I like "Body By Hilgart" better. Murphy & Walker look like beasts. And Murphy didn't look bad before Hilgartization.
Dude's traps are bigger than my biceps. Hilgart is earning the shit out of that paycheck.
Once again I'm forced to wonder exactly how many women will be impregnated as a direct result of Ben Hilgart's work at VT. I'm guessing a lot.
Don't roids make men infertile?
:: ducks ::
Good god, Terrell Edmunds.
Terrell has always been ripped to shit. Put a lot of muscle on in his back and biceps. That boy has been rowing.
The secret is that those undies are both the same length.
192 to 220 thats ridiculous. Terrell is primed for a YUGE year.
Yep. That's a lot of muscle and I think he'll keep his speed.
Looks like he is trying to channel some inner Kam with that size.
Look out ACC receivers... there's a man living in the middle of the field for VT this year
fans are prepping for the season too...
Saving this for our annual Eastern Carolina matchup...
The pinch is what does it for me.
"buying bread from a man in Brussels.
He was six foot four, and full of muscles.'
Really impressive. Hopefully similar results are occurring across the team.
Hilgart has done some great work and he appears to be a hell of a hire.
It looks like they aren't flexing in the before, but are flexing in the afters. But those gains are still legit.
Blacksburg? More like Jackedburg.
Hilgart is a good coach "See that weight over der? Life that"
