Hello fellow Hokies. Its that time again where I imagine a lot of us are have upcoming fantasy drafts, so wanted to start a thread to discuss advice for the upcoming season.
For myself specifically, the $100 league I am in drafts next weekend, and through random order I end up having the first pick.
Looking for some input on who I should be taking off the board at #1. Some info about the league itself:
10 team league, PPR, roster starts:
QB
QB
WR
WR
WR
RB
RB
TE
FLEX RB/RB/TE
K
DEF
Passing TDs worth 6 as well, so premium on having good QBs and with 3 starting WRs need to have really 2 good ones to compete.
I was thinking Antonio Brown first given this, but would love to get thoughts from some other fantasy fanatics.

With a full PPR, I'd take Brown or Beckham at #1, and then snag an RB and another WR when it snakes back around.
Based purely on ESPN's ADP, that could potentially leave you with Brown/Beckham, Amari Cooper, and Leonard Fournette (Jax has outright said they're going to be feeding him the rock constantly) as your core. That's one hell of a start
Edit: Whoa, dont know how I missed that but with two QB, def get someone in the first two rounds
Yea but you don't want to wait too late for a QB in a league like this. The primary league I do does QB points this way and a dominant QB can make your team.
In this point scheme QBs are actually a hair more important than RBs.
I have a league with the 6 point QB TDs as well, had Rodgers for 4 years, and didn't win anything during that time. Russell Wilson and Blake Bortles were the winning QBs in the last 2 championships in that league.
Edit:
Personally, I just think that QB is a way deeper position, regardless of format. If I can get a guy like Stafford in the 5th or 6th round and still nab a starting RB and two star WRs in a league like this, I'll feel happy leaving the draft
Not trying to be contentious, just pointing out there's no real sure-thing strategy in any format.
Oh absolutely. I feel like the less time and effort I put into fantasy, the better I seem to do. Oh and the two years I had Rodgers as my QB1 were the only years I have won my league, lol.
There's also the argument that I could just be a really bad team manager
antonio brown, julio jones, or mike evans imo running back got a lot deeper this year you could easily survive with the likes of mcaffery and ty montgomery or something in a ppr league.
Id go qb round 2 if an amazing one falls into your lap with such a premium put on passing TDs. like tom brady or aaron rodgers. (theyll probably lead the league in scoring). How big is your league?
With reports out of Arizona saying they want David Johnson to get 1000 yards rushing and 1000 yards receiving, I don't know why anyone wouldn't want him #1 in any format.
In a 10 team PPR league you can find WRs in the later rounds.
David Johnson presents an interesting option. I see him as the clear RB 1 this year.
IMO safer pick than Elliott (possible looming suspension), Bell (holdout plus history of positive drug tests), or Brown (Big Ben injury and he doesn't produce as much)
Justin Tucker, can't go wrong
He's been my kicker for 4 straight years. Talk about money, the guy has a 50+ yarder every game it feels like
Well, OJ is free, so I would definitely explore that option. Will be a little bit rusty but the Nevada Department of Corrections is widely known as the leader in player development.
I hate PPR.... having said that, I am in a 12 person league for the first time and I am not looking forward to it as I usually play in 10 team leagues.
I ran these league settings through the draft editor I use with the following assumptions (Flex is only RB/TE, full PPR, no keepers, 10 teams).
Here's the top 10 results by their math:
1. D. Johnson, RB
2. A. Rodgers, QB
3. T. Brady, QB
4. L. Bell, RB
5. A. Brown, WR
6. ODB Jr, WR
7. Zeke, RB
8. D. Bree's, QB
9. R. Wilson, QB
10. J. Jones, WR
In their reckoning, David Johnson has such a high advantage over the next best running back he should be picked first. Last year with almost these exact settings -(I'm in a PPR 2QB league at work), WRs Antonio Brown & Dez Bryant went 1-2, and there were 5 Qbs in the first round (of their draft cheat sheet).
My only advice for picking first is to make sure you have a QB by the time your picks at 20 & 21 are over. In 1 QB leagues you can wait until the end of the entire draft to pick any known starter, but in 2 QB leagues, you have to go after the top scorers early.
Great info. I think David Johnson is going to be my pick at this point, with a plan to take the best remaining QB/WR are 20/21 as it snakes back
With a 6 game suspension, when would you want to draft him?
I wasn't going to take Elliott anyway as I frankly hate the Cowboys with the white hot intensity of 1000 suns. With him getting 6 games (and per the league letter that apparently indicates they have photographic evidence, so I can't see that # being reduced), the top end RB pool for the season just shrunk. I am pretty set on David Johnson at this point
I didn't mean to make it sound like I was asking you specifically. I just thought this was a good place to put the news and wanted to hear others input on it. If he is there still in the second round I might take. Third round I would definitely grab him.
Sam Rogers #1 overall
