OT: European transfer deadline day
Today is the transfer deadline for most European soccer federations. Spain's is tomorrow. I figured keeping this discussion here would help keep the EPL 16-17 more clean because the of all the different teams and leagues involved. Looks to be a doozy of a day with names to watch being Kylian Mbappe, Philippe Coutinho, Alexis Sanchez, Thomas Lemar, Virgil Van Dijk, and Diego Costa among others.

Sky is reporting Arsenal have bid up to 92m pounds for Thomas Lemar. Could indicate that Alexis will move to Manchester City after all.
Guardian now reporting that they couldn't reach a deal in time.

Per an LFC "In The Know" the player only wanted to move to Liverpool and we weren't willing to bid that high. Take that for what it's worth (i.e. not a lot).

Since they're "unable" (read: too incompetent) to procure a replacement, I think Arsenal makes Alexis see out his contract. He'll continue to be just a ray of sunshine in the locker room of course, and Arsenal will concede an average of 6 goals per game

Who's gonna take his place on chiles national team? I get that point it's valid but it's not like he's in risk of losing his spot on the Chile team
I'm sure there's nobody with comparable talent breathing down his neck, but you can't expect to take a year vacation & jump back into 90 minutes of football. I'm sure Renato Sanches didn't move to Swansea looking for EPL glory. In a World Cup year, regular minutes are important for everyone.

Kylian Mbappe to PSG confirmed. What a summer for them. Anything less than French double and UCL final appearance has to be considered a flop.
baffling why Monaco would loan Mbappe out to PSG with no loan fee all while helping PSG avoid the Fifa Fair Play penalties?

what does man city have to do with this? they gave up on mbappe a long time ago. PSG are doing a loan to buy option for around 170 million. meaning they dont have to put the transfer on this year but can next year avoiding ffp issues and monaco still make a fortune off of a guy that they paid a fraction of a percent of what theyre getting for him
Yeah they are under an obligation to buy if they don't get regulated.
I'm not sure how it is actually structured. Could just be a delayed payment structured as "loan and compulsory purchase", or there could be some upfront fee now for the loan and the rest next summer to make it permanent. Either way it's not like Monaco are hurting for cash after selling Silva, Mendy, and Bakayoko

Agreed, although with Sanches, Swansea at this point is just doing things to keep themselves from getting relegated rather than long term improvement. I do like the Bony upgrade over Llorente, and Alfie Mawson at the back last year is definitely building for the future, but the disappointing thing is Swansea don't even have a Welshman in their first team anymore...
I think Sanchez could be big for Swansea a little less pressure and a big chunk of regular playing time could have him at his best plus they also signed that Abraham kid he looks really good I think he's a good pickup as well, I had Swansea tabbed for relegation scrap this year but the last few weeks they've signed the right players so we shall see, I also felt Huddersfield were toast but that shows what little pre season predictions are worth.
As for the whole no welsh thing I see it kind of like England's issue right now other than say, bale, Ramsey, fletcher, and I guess Robson canu it's not like there is a pile of premier league welsh talent up there to pick from. Take England for example, and British talent these days is a premium in the premier league so his value goes up just cause he's British. Right now teams are paying 50m pounds for a player that if he wasn't British wouldn't be worth half that but because decent English talent is so rare these days when it does come along it's insanely hard to get and expensive as can be like Sterling for the silly price city paid for him.
Don't forget about Joe Allen, Wayne Hennessey, Ashley Williams, Ben Davies, Jonny Williams, Andy King and a few youngsters coming through (Ben Woodburn and Harry Wilson at Liverpool, Ethan Ampanadu at Chelsea)! And keep in mind they knocked Belgium out of the Euros and won the group England was in. Amazing what you can do with focused talent...
Still rumbles that costa could still get atleti move with Spain not done till tomorrow and Danny drinkwater went to Chelsea for 35m, not sure how that one plays out
