Who will have the house? And a few thoughts on Grier

Who will have the house Sunday night? I am guessing the 'Eers will have more fans there. They are having an orgasm/heart attack, not sure which, for this game. This is a big game for us, but I know several Tech fans that aren't going that normally would. (for no reason other than not dealing with the Eer crowd).

Will Grier definitely has some talent, but to me, is not the kind of QB that gives us problems. He is listed at only 6'2 and around 215. When he got to Florida he was in the 180's. He's not a naturally big QB. You can find several articles written, before the suspension, about how he bulked up quickly . He claims it was a harmless supplement that led to the suspension, but who doesn't. He can run, but we do seem to bottle up the smaller QB's. It is the 6'4 big guys that run wild on us for some reason. I have noticed that for several years. Grier played pretty well at Florida, but if we can get some pressure and play disciplined, we can knock him around. He hit a lot of open receivers at UF and a lot of his running he did when the rush over pursued and left the middle wide open. I am a tad worried about the read option type plays (if WVU even runs that) but on drop backs, we should be in his grill all night and get turnovers and sacks.

My point is, some guys beat us even when we get pressure and a hand on them. Grier is not the guy, I feel pretty certain of it.

I won't be attending but when I had my eye on tickets the VT side was filling up much more quickly than WVU. It has been a month or two but with all the VT alum in DC and people i've talked to I expect a small but noticeable VT lean. To touch on the last topic, Grier can eat a bag of dicks.

I may have just bought tickets, but WVU had their whole section open for weeks and they have just now filled up save for the endzones.

VT sold their ticket allotment much faster than WVU did FWIW.

DC is essentially Hokies. I wouldn't doubt if we had more grads then any other school in the region.

I don't think will have more fans than us considering we have a huge fan/alumni base in the NoVA... but thats just imho

VT will outnumber them. A month or two ago, all, but a few VT sections were sold out on ticketmaster while all, but a few WVU sections had open seats.

Every Hokie I know in the DC area (including me) is going to the game. But it will likely be like 55-60% Hokie to Eer ratio. Not a real noticeable difference.

Hey does anyone else think that VT fans will outnumber the WVU fans?

If nothing else there will definitely be more Hokie families there since, you know, WVU fans are from the same family tree.

I was at a wedding this past weekend with a friend that works for the Redskins. He deals with all of the club seats/boxes. He said the stadium will be split 65% good guys to 35% cousins.

I expect it to be pretty even with a few more Hokie fans than Cousins.

Your assumption is correct that a lot of Hokies who would usually go are not due to opponent or location. I usually attend these games and throw a big tailgate but not a chance in hell with it being at Fedex. That stadium, and Dan Snyder, suck.

I expect there will be two UVA fans there as well, approximately 1/4 of their total fan base, who will end up at the game after getting lost on their way to the Catalina Wine Mixer in Annapolis.

His decision was made after a phone call with longtime Virginia Tech assistant coach Bud Foster. All Foster told him was, "We win. They don't."

Look out for at least one person in Tennessee gear who bought a ticket from a friend of mine but refuses to at least wear neutral colors... I might hate people like that even more than Eer fans.

On Mountain Jesus: I like to look back at our D VS Kaya last year... maybe I don't know the mountaineer offense as well as I'd like and Brad wasn't all that mobile. Miami lacked an outstanding WR target last year that could get open quick, I don't think WVU has someone that can. WVU probably has the stronger RBs but also lacks an good O Line. Most importantly we sacked Kaya 8 times in #AME with a very similar defensive personnel group. Call me confident but I like the over on the VT sack line.

Not sure where else to put this, but Pete confirmed to me that all the student tickets are in the 400 sections. Apparently it was up to the venue (read: Dan Snyder) for choosing how to make student tickets affordable.

I'm estimating a 65:35 VT favor.

I am not attending, after uscw and boise never going to a college game there again. Plus there is a 65 inch tv and tons of beer in my fridge so it is kind of hard to justify going to a game anymore. Damn that makes me sound old...

And, welcome to my world. Except your TV is a lot bigger, and your fridge sounds much better stocked. So, hey, man, could you help a brother out and tell me where you live? Just me, promise, I'll give my redneck friends the slip.

Alexandria, but my rugrats and wifey screaming sometimes make it hard to concentrate so how is your anti-distraction game?

My wife takes the kids and leaves the house while I watch my Hokie games.........nuff said

My in-laws are over for dinner Sunday. My father in-law grew up in Union West Virginia, and is a FWVU fan. My wife told them dinner is at 5:00, and you should leave in time to get home for the game.

Hmmm, let's see. Three hour drive...screaming ruggers and wifey...uh, how much beer did you say you had?

Your fridge must be huge!

I think it's a little unfair tickets most likely cost more for VT fans.

It's not our fault half of West Virginia's fan base qualifies for the giant family discount I'm assuming they're all getting.
