Or and I know this is crazy having 32 threads on NFL players just clutters up the threads. If people want to create threads for every cut or signing I say go right ahead.
I'd call a lot more non-football threads "clutter" before before a topic like this. At least these are football-related during football season, I have no problem with threads like these being posted every once in a while when a former player is signed or cut.
That's the point I'm trying to make. In just last five days there have been over 20 cuts and signings or status changes for Hokie in the NFL. If people want each of them to be a new thread because they don't like the single updated thread format it's all good I just think it would add a lot of new threads. I legged this thread I'm all good with it if that's what people prefer.

Clearly there is discussion to be had, as evidenced by the comments not including this sub thread. So frame it that way and start new discussion.
But Fireman is correct and I for one think he does a great job at maintaining a clearinghouse of information on Hokies in the Pros. So no need for multiple threads statine same topic.

Not entirely sure what counts as "big news", but I'd guess that a player who declared early for the draft and got cut before week 1 counts.

This is why I'm skeptical whenever our fans hype up a "first round talent" player. For a long ass time that was Bucky and Ford, and neither got close. And seriously, we all said that, including myself. Now I'm way more cautious with that kind of praise.
I don't think anybody ever really thought Ford was a first round talent; I personally thought he would be third round. Not sure why, but I felt he was similar to Mohamed Sanu (I could be very wrong about this); both don't have top end speed but are savvy route runners/pass catchers.
Bucky was being hyped up starting his redshirt freshman season as he showed a lot of promise despite not playing the position long. For various reasons, he didn't show the same traits as OJ Howard or those other first round TEs that NFL scouts value.
There were plenty of people saying it, myself included. He was heralded as the best WR in the ACC by many VT fans as well as national pundits. The combine tanked his stock for sure, but go look at the threads around draft time. Most were shocked he fell so much.
All you need to do is take off the O&M glasses. Hodges had serious strengths (size, athleticism), but also serious flaws (hands, YAC, route running, using his size). Same with Ford (hands, body control) vs (size, speed).
They were both always 3rd round prospects - at best. Ford should have stayed. Hodges had probably reached his college ceiling.
I've said it before, Phillips will end up with the best NFL career of the three. And he will be helped a lot by staying this year. You could already see it in game 1 - both his play and his body.
Trust me, I have some of the least tinted O&M glasses here. Thing is, every time the Hokies played ESPN said the exact same things, so it really wasn't too outlandish or homerish. I agree though, looking back there were signs, but as they say, hindsight is 20/20.
As far as Cam, we say that speed is basically imperative and he doesn't have that. But maybe he gets a 4th/5th round shot when he goes.
Not gonna complain because the team we fielded yesterday looked very solid, but all three of Jerod, Bucky, and Ford would've been much better off just staying. Hindsight is 20/20.
Since Bucky's going on IR, then I don't agree that he would be better off staying. I think he made the right decision - to get paid while getting better. I'm not sure how much better he would have progressed. /me shrugs
Jerod should have stayed but I understand the desire to become a pro.
Ford is now on IR too, which reinforces your point.
The problem is for anyone with eyes, foresight was 20/20 too.
