I have a lot of choice words regarding this, and I know its a bit early to make knee-jerk reactions regarding forecasts but we should not be encouraging people to go to florida from Memphis...
Dolphins and Bucs get a bye week on opening weekend? Wow, that's rough for the rest of the season. They might get a bye in week 2 as well if this storm is really bad.
Nah, Dolphins go to LA in week 2. Bucs are at home, but Tampa is on the gulf coast, which doesn't seem to be getting hit as hard.

I did see the latest forecast has the storm potentially turning north earlier and going up the Atlantic Coast. It could be a serious issue for GA, SC, or NC....and then VA.
Irma looks like Matthew Part II. Except it's a lot bigger, and badder... and UNC can't whine about it this year when they play the Hokies.
But they might be able to whine against Louisville (this week in Chapel Hill) or ODU (next week in Norfolk).

No model has the storm getting that far north by Saturday, so I don't see any reason for our game to change.

I never understood how starting that game 90 minutes early was helping anything.
FSU game now cancelled.
At the very least itll keep Miami and FSU fans from complaining that only one team had an extra bye, though for many im sure itll be anything but restful as they cope with the aftermath of the storm.
I also expect that FSU will get back to work much sooner than Miami, considering that the storm will weaken considerably on its way north. It'll still be a shitshow, just less of a mess in Tallahassee than in Miami.
So anyway the Hokies can work there way onto TV with all these cancellations?
It looks like there's only three timeslots to work with - noon or primetime on ESPNEWS, and the ACC Network game. The 3:30 slot is filled up. I just don't see Whit agreeing to change the time the day before the game, as that would a lot of travel plans.
I feel like Raycom is just going to throw in the towel with the ACC Network game. They've already had to work twice as hard to get affiliates, since they originally had a night game (with different stations), and then switched to the normal time and renegotiated to get better coverage.
If Raycom still wants a game, maybe they'll take WF at BC -- a 1 PM kickoff, which would be easier to change to noon or 12:20, and it would be 2 ACC teams.

I get that such a thought isn't important to the folks who are dealing with a hurricane rushing their way. But damn, he's a sports reporter (who's currently unemployed), tweeting out thoughts on sports. It's not like he got on the NHC account or even the Ark St or Miami accounts and said something. Heck, he didn't even tag anyone or hashtag to bring extra attention.
Of course, half of the folks commenting don't realize that he's not with ESPN anymore. And then everyone else wants to point out that FSU and Miami have the same bye week, and that game will probably get moved.
If they move FSU/Miami to October 7, I have no clue what ABC would air for Saturday Night Football. Maybe Clemson/Louisville, scheduled for ABC or ESPN at 3:30?
None of the SEC games can go in that slot, since CBS has the exclusive over-the-air rights. And there really are no other games of that magnitude on the schedule.
Clemson/Louisville makes a lot of sense too, since that might determine the Atlantic.

This should not affect VT games and their TV slots. Next week, we're on CBS Sports Network anyway, so out of the control of ESPN.
Obviously, games past next week haven't been scheduled anyway, but our potential timeslots probably won't be affected.
October 7, we're playing BC, so that wouldn't be a high profile game anyway. The issue that day is that all of the ACC games that day are ACC Network/RSN quality matchups. FSU/Miami is probably going to take the ABC night spot, but it would only be stealing it away from another conference.
October 14 is our bye week, so we're not affected by the GT/Miami game moving off of Thursday. Nor would we be a candidate for a Thursday night game if ESPN chose to fill in that slot.

NBC has always only had the rights to Notre Dame home games, but this one is in Chestnut Hill so ESPN owns the rights.
The game is at BC. They only host the ND home games.

FIU cancelled their trip to Indiana. Indiana is looking for someone to play them on their bye week of 10/7.
