At least at Braves games, they only play it to start the game and when runners are in scoring position.
If the Braves were FSU, it would be the walk-up music for every Braves batter, every opposing batter, every relief pitcher, the manager and pitching coach when making mound visits....

It was a brilliant move to play it at the end of 2011 Miami, because it kept everyone in the stands after the game (except for that one kid that got tossed to the ground by VTPD).

In defense, I don't recall Enter Sandman being played circa BC 2007 (thanks for the reminder of our national championship hopes dashed) except for the start of the game. I just remember fans moving toward rushing the field WAY too early... Gave bad mojo. Damn you Matty Ice.
However we were vindicated at the ACC Championship game.
But agreed, Enter Sandman is only for our entrance and for major end of game plays (such as WVU stop) that could either make or break the game.

If I remember correctly, they also played it as the team came out of the locker room at halftime at the 05 Miami game...it gave absolutely zero influence on that particular game, however. *sigh*

I think that we should have everyone bring classroom instruments and sing it in place of the Hokie Pokey. Imagine how fired up Lane would be after that! Surely we can grow this tradition to a real spectacle?

I'm a purist. I think Enter Sandman should be played 6 times a year. Basketball needs to get it's own song for it's own identity. 6 times a year keeps it special and doesn't dilute it.
Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but the first time I remember hearing sandman played at sometime other before kickoff was at the 2min mark in the 4th during BC 2007...

I remember it being played in the 4th quarter before then, but that game definitely turned me off of the idea of 4th quarter Sandman for years.
2011 Miami, among others, has made me reconsider my stance. It's all a numbers game, and as long as it works significantly more often than not I'm ok with it. And as long as we don't overdo it.

Agreed that Miami 2011 was epic. You could see how clearly disrupted the miami huddle was. I remember Al Golden trying to talk to the team and just say F*** it.
Being disruptive in a situation like that is great, but those first few chords are epic and should be rare. Maybe finding a good spot in the middle of the song to start? Get the fans just as hyped, have the sing along, but preserve the sacred start of the song.

I think it's a little overkill that they play at the beginning of soccer, lacrosse, and every other sport as well. Pretty sad to hear it playing while all 3 fans sit still.

Looks like the same happened at the end of UCLA's comeback vs aTm. Video clearly shows WR bobbling the pass as he steps OB. Didn't have full control until he was over a step OB.

Although I LOVE the Enter Sandman entrance (as all Hokie fans with eyes, ears and a functioning brain should), WHY in the bleep do they cut it off before the lyrics start?
They seem to cut it at roughly the 1:00 mark (based on the album version) to let the band start playing, when it's 100% obvious that is should run to the 1:19 mark to let the first half of the first verse play.
Drives me crazy every time, and it's a slight taint on what would otherwise be a perfect intro.

I don't want it to be played after the clock runs out. It's used for hype, and that is only needed before games and maybe, additionally, once during the late, late stages of games where it is close and we are playing defense. Any more, and I think it gets diluted.

Probably because they were looking just for a musical introduction, and the plan was just to play it up until the point that the team runs out.
