The Houston Texans offensive line gave up ten sacks today and a defensive touchdown from one of two QB fumbles.
Their best lineman, Virginia Tech alumnus Duane Brown, has been holding out because the final two years on his contract are not guaranteed. Also, he is a top left tackle, but his salary is not in the top 15, and his earnings over the next two years are not in the top 10 for left tackles.
The Texans should tell Mr. Brown's agents:
1. that any fines for missing training camp and games will be waived by the team
2. that the team will fully guarantee the final year of his contract (this year becomes guaranteed when he reports)
3. that the team will work on a contract extension with additional guaranteed money
The Texans have some offensive and defensive stars and could bring together a strong playoff team if they stay healthy, but they're not going anywhere without Duane Brown.

Loved that he always wore a VT hat during the Texans season of Hard Knocks.
I don't see a team bringing all that to an agent. I could see an agent demanding all those from the team, and even getting most of it.
Hope it happens, of course, love to see a Hokie succeed. And even though his OL coaching isn't at VT any more, it couldn't hurt recruiting for him to pull down some eye-popping numbers.
I imagine that both sides know what needs to be done and all of this has already been discussed.
If Houston wants to have a chance at the playoffs they should bring him back immediately, they've seen what it's like without him - terrible.
If Houston wants him to go through camp next year, they need to guarantee the contract for next year at the very least, there's no reason to go to camp when you're not getting paid and you can get cut if you get injured.
Yeah, Duane Brown has been a top 5 OT in NFL for going on a decade now. I hope they can realize its best for everyone involved to pay him like a top 5 OT and get him back on the field soon.
