There were ALOT of recruits there on Saturday. Anyone find a complete list anywhere?
Any word on how recruits reacted to the whole atmosphere? I feel like Hokie Nation really showed out this past weekend
Yeah, I'm not worried that we lost the game in front of those recruits. If anything, the game plan we had showed them they should be able to step in and contribute right away, and the results of games like this rarely sway recruits one way or another. That said, the fact the fans stayed involved until that last INT, long after Clemson really had the game in hand, showed the support is there, and showed that Lane is a tough place to play. Hopefully that stuck out to them, and hopefully the coaching staff put its best foot forward before the game to wow them as much as possible.
That was a great atmosphere for recruits to witness.
Definitely positive from what I've heard. Not what it would've been if we had won obviously but everyone was very very impressed by the atmosphere. I haven't asked too much about the kids individually, but I know everything was very well received. I do think we made some moves with Dax.
And hats off to VT. Remember what I said about the staff and admin team doing things we've never seen at a game before? The kids were basically drooling over MV7 and the gang on the sideline. If the game had been closer after the third, there was also a little something extra planned with Corey Moore, but it would've been awkward with us down by so much so they scrapped it.
Please tell me it would've been something that plays off this. Most likely occurring between the 3rd and 4th quarter. Because thy would have been AWESOME. Also explains why Corey Moore seemed a little lost out there.
Not related to football but we're getting CBs for David Duke. WHOA
Not surprising when he has a field pass to an 8pm game in Lane
If Bede is 6'1", then Duke has grown more than his listed 6'3".
Or Bede isn't 6'1", which pretty likely.
6'1" to the top of the hair
Top of the Hairs is the #1 place everyone loves as a student but hates as an alum
David Duke would be a NAW-type get if we can land him. By all analysts accounts so far, those two have high potential to end up as NBA lottery picks! Man that would be a great get combined with another big-time player in Landers Nolley
Would be an awesome get, but man we need to start landing some big men. Our biggest weakness is going to be height for the next couple of years if we don't change it around
Shit, hes going to FSU
I had to do a double take when someone said this on Twitter.
ESPN has already banned him from ever being mentioned on the air.
This person I'm sure looking for page clicks
Soooo can Buzz come help the football staff with recruiting, because that guy has definitely been boxing above our weight class in the recruiticorn department.
I hope and pray he's done this without being involved in the NCAABB mess...
Dude has some ups. I also dont believe hes 6'3"

Was looking earlier but they didn't have names. Like who is "Ben"where his family is all wearing Hokie gear?
James Mitchell looks good in that VT gear (pic 18)
...as does Dax (pic 50)
Coleton Beck plans to commit on the 7th
Scholarship will be for track so it won't count towards football quota
Doesn't work that way unfortunately. If he plays football his scholarship will be for football.

Thank da U and Butch Davis for this.
I'll change my comment to something a little more #Saucy about the commitment.
He's (hopefully) gonna have quite the guest.
This guy?
Must..not...downvote.
Those orange undies tho...
He's committed, down to the fibers of his clothing...
Satan.
I thought that loophole was closed years ago. If you play on the football team, your scholarship counts in that sport.
Edit: Guess I'll drink twice.
I don't think this is accurate, and there was a change a few years back since some schools were exploiting this loophole.
I believe the rule is that if you hold an athletic scholarship and are an active participant in football, you count towards the football scholarship limit.
EDIT: I'll drink too lol.
If he doesn't get on the field his first year then he can be on a track scholly....i.e. redshirt year.
or so I was told....
Then he can't practice with team or any other team activities.
That's not accurate. If he redshirts in football and runs track for Tech, it's no different than a walk-on or scout team member that never played.
If he were to burn his redshirt, it would count toward a football scholarship.
JUGS some clarification on this please.
Yes, Butch Davis put Miami WR's on track schollies to get around the scholly reduction, when da U was on probation. The NCAA quickly closed that loop hole. FWIW... track athletes who are on scholly and play on the basketball team, have to have their scholly count against Bball limit, too (in the season that they play), just like a Bballer's scholly would count against football limit if he plays for the football team.
Is there a hierarchy of sports for all possible multisport athletes. What about a player who is both on the swim team and tennis team? Or soccer and track? What sports does the NCAA value above others?
Football-basketball
Others.
I WANT THE DUKE!!!!
Could really use an elite defensive end. Hopefully we got one or two in last year's class. Hopefully the elite recruits could see how much immediate playing time is up for grabs. Anyone need a Zima? I'm going to the fridge.
The sad part is that as I was think about our lack of OL recruiting today I got to thinking about any DE's that could possibly make the jump to OL. It's just funny to think that our 2 best OL's were listed as DE's coming into the program.
That never occurred to me. I try to keep my hopes realistic. I just want the recruiting to get to the point that we have maybe two more blue chips on each side of the ball.
I just think about what the D would look like with one elite DE and maybe an upgraded mike linebacker. Same goes for the offense, just a couple upgrades.
With that being said, Fuente hasn't had enough time to accomplish that. I'm excited to see what the 2019 and 2020 classes finish like.
Listed by recruiting services - sort of. One look at Nijman's film and there was a 0% chance he was going to play DL...which is why folks should pay no attention to the position listed on recruiting sites.
Teller was a little less obvious, but he didn't really have the DL burst either in HS.
Clemson upstate radio sources seem confident we will lose Jordan McFadden to Clemson, for whatever that is worth.
After what was posted by his comments a week or so ago he pretty much said he was gone. Hate it but it is what it is and we just have to keep plugging! We still seem to have a hard time recruiting OL and DL and it is starting to concern me with the new coaching staff. Can have great skill position players but if you can't block and control the line of scrimmage it really doesn't matter!
OL is the toughest position to recruit. Not many can come in and do the job and in high school, the bigger you are the better you can block in most cases. Doesn't always project well.
OL is about developing, not recruiting. Clemson doesn't have a single OL commitment for 2018 yet. They only took 2 OL last year (both 3 stars.) Their starting RT was a 3 star guard in 2016. Their center and left guards were 3 star OTs in 2014. Their right guard (4 star in 2013) and left tackle (5 star in 2015) are their only elite recruits up front.
My worry is that for every gem, you will recruit a turd for OL. Vice is recruiting to an archetype (long, lean, good feet) but the numbers aren't there. There will be attrition and only with volume will you develop depth. I like VT's young OL. But, there needs to be more "sure things" because there is no way all the projects turn into viable players.
I don't keep up with recruiting. I watch the tape to see if potential recruits can play. I like Harris, and I think McFadden is a nice player who fits the scheme. Hopefully they can close, or have a flip candidate we don't know about with a higher upside than McFadden locked up. I will worry about it come January.
Rankings courtesy of 24/7 sports.
For all their prowess in DL recruiting, its really remarkable that Clemson's OL has very little star power and very non-prototypical size.
So talking about recruiting tactics during the game this past weekend this article gives a little window into the staff's efforts with Devyn Ford...
God damn that's a home run move. I'm sure it's a no brainer to a recruiter, but Mike Vick was the perfect ace in the hole.
Like down 1 in the bottom of the 8th 2 run shot to hook the left field foul pole....
Yeah with all those high profiles recruits in the house, it shows just how important Ford is to be the centerpiece of next year's class. He could be our first elite RB since David Wilson and be a critical addition to competing for ACC and National Titles!
Whit and Fuente need to try and get Vick on campus more often to help with recruiting.
The recruits were surrounding him on the sideline at one point of the broadcast the other night.
So Cole Beck is announcing he's commitment friend after Blacksburg homecoming game
Leg for Papi!
Basketball recruiting update:
Seems it may be a two-horse race for David Duke, fresh off a visit to Blacksburg: Virginia Tech v Providence.
That's what the crystal ball says on 247 but we've been bamboozled by the crystal ball before
David Duke to Florida State confirmed.
I wonder what fan base got hurt more after that whole Ordeal Us or UCLA?
Players as good as Walker are interested in UCLA every year. Very different with us.
Maybe I am just way out of the loop but where is this coming from? Is this similar to MJ last year where FSU came out of nowhere?
This is a joke referencing exactly that.
Ok I was so confused for a second. That actually got me because of MJ and Josh Sweat a couple years ago. Not quite as out of nowhere but either way I think FSU has some shady recruiting practices so I would not have doubted it.
4 star SF Landers Nolley is announcing his decision this weekend. Really a UGA, Illinois, and VT battle with the Hokies the presumed favorite. One thing of interest or confusion is he is listed as 6'4 on 247 and 6'7 on Rivals. Think the Rivals height is more accurate, but who knows. Looks much closer to 6'7 in his highlights however FWIW.
Jerry Meyer switched his CB to UGA. Oh no
Is there any hope for any additional OL or DT recruits? I heard rumors of McFadden leaving, and we need some bodies there.
Josh Jefferson is the dude I'm praying we hurry up and offer
Probably only if we lose Harris, unfortunately. He's a guard/center and we need tackles.
He's got an invite to the under armor all american game. How does he not have an offer
Ive thought the same and can think of a few scenarios, but all stemming from the fact we have tight numbers for 2018. McFadden leaving should open up an opportunity somewhere; whether they choose to offer another OL is the question. Cant forget Darrisaw is 2018 class.
I believe the next step is generally the coaches evaluate senior film and make offers based on that.
That's a really good point that I hadn't thought about. I'm sure there are late bloomers that we should be scouting and focusing on that could fly under the radar for other bigger programs. I think its a niche but one that could yield 1-2 players a year.
Tenuta?
Would Tenuta be a FUMA guy and noy count against the 25.
He is gone! Just do a search for McFadden and see his comments after his visit there a week or so ago and he said everything short of I am going to Clemson! Could have been in the heat and excitement of the moment and visit? But sounds like to me he is gone short of a miracle save by the coaching staff?
Still up in the air.
Struggle between his love of VT's coaching staff and school, and proximity of Clemson and their success.
He's looking into engineering.
Smart fellow, been through tough times but has earned some great opportunities. Either way, wish him well.
I'm not convinced it's a done deal yet.
Some recruits may not be "takes" for their number one choice.
My wife knows the feeling.
i lol'd
Landers Nolley confirms he will commit Saturday, one week after attending the Recruit-A-Palooza in Blacksburg. This was the plan before, but it's interesting that he's reminding us of this before his OV to Georgia. CBs favor us, but Illinois fans (and bots- nice job, Illini) have been choking his mentions for weeks and weeks.
UPDATE: apparently he already has his decision paired down to 2 (Final Four of VT, Illinois, Georgia, and Georgia State)
I wonder if he'll be choosing Georgia State
Georgia State = Ensign Ricky
Hokies and Dawgs last two standing for Landers Nolley. Currently visiting Georgia. Will decide tomorrow.
Based on the jersey, Virginia tech is first with a score of 1-0.
Also, the VT at the top has more diamonds.
And there's way more electricity coming out of the VT arm. Just a single bolt out of UGA
eyes tell no lies
Except when they do. He's going to Georgia.
Pure speculation, but also my hope and prayer. David Duke Jr is going to commit to the good guys and with McAllister already committed, we dont need three guards in one class.
I should have knew that he wasn't going to commit to here cause we offer another SF 5 hours before he announced hopefully we can pull this SF he's a 4 star and he's 6'9
what's his name?
Chance Moore
where are you seeing that he's rated 4-stars?
also I keep finding recruiting sites showing him as 6-5, only his own twitter and some random site show him as 6-9
6-5, 3-star: https://247sports.com/Player/Chance-Moore-46041347
6-5: http://www.courier-journal.com/story/sports/preps/kentucky-high-school-s...
his twitter, 6-9: https://twitter.com/ReRunMoore11
6-9, 2-star: http://www.verbalcommits.com/players/chance-moore
247 hasn't updated his profile on his Twitter bio he has 4 stars on there but that can from any recruiting websites but by looking at his pictures on Twitter he's 6'9 and he has a pretty good offer list
I just realized that Chants and Chance are homophones
?
I just realized that Chants and Chance are homophones.
This clears it up.
Guy likes to see homos naked, that doesn't help me
?
Context...
I dont think this conversation shouldn't be on this website
Don't be homophonic now.
Eh I was just giving context so nobody thought BetaEta was trying to say something derogatory but yes that's as far as it needs to go. No "conversation" to be had.
Appreciate it. Not the first time and definitely won't be the last time I quote one of my favorite movies out of context and get a less than positive response
Just keep on keepin on man
I'm so confused.
It's from Joe Dirt again.
Is this where you wanna be when jesus comes back? Interpreting Joe dirt quotes on TKP?
Maybe you should go get a wahburger and some French cries, maybe a weineken. Def Leppard sucks, sissy boy!
And today he walked that commitment back and said he is no longer committed to them?
Dang he might have got caught up in that official visit and would love for him to be a Hokie. Him, david duke, mcallister, and florent thamba would be another incredible recruiting class!
I'm thinking there's another team in the mix that we don't know about
FSU confirmed
Don't hurt my feelings there could be a couple reason why he decommited
It certainly feels a whole lot like F$U shady going on.
Go vote for Tre Turner and Cole Beck. amfam.com/fanvote
Tonight's the night boys and girls.
Cole Beck commits to the Hokies.
Love this, esp since it means he didn't go play for Nardouchee.
Fuck Pat Narduzzi!
Welcome aboard Beck!!
Icing, meet cake.
*Disclaimer: This is in no way an endorsement for team cake.
yessssss. I hope this kid comes in here and kills it.
Slightly related to this thread, but the wheels of the UNC bus are starting to come off. Lost their 4 star QB today
Starting?
You left off the "/s".
Oh, you mean with respect to recruiting. It's also interesting that Tyler Shough (the four star QB) decommitted after a surprise visit to Oregon.
Could there be other shaky commits who become available?
Also: Why did Nassir Little commit to UNC this week? Wouldn't anyone prudent have waited for the NCAA verdict? Oh, I get it. What verdict?
Snowballs chance in hell the NCAA does anything but kids are getting anxious. I'd like to see us make a run again at Dyami Brown and Payton Wilson.
I would second the Wilson and Brown flip campaign.
UNCheat could end up looking like LOLUVA pretty soon; they might even replace them next year as Perennial Coastal Bottom Dweller (PCBD).
He was seen as a pretty shakey commit from the start though. A west coast kid who got caught up in the excitement after a visit early in his recruitment. Wilson and Brown will be tougher though. They have been pretty hardcore UNCheat but with the season the tarholes have been having and with the NCAA mess I still don't know why on earth any blue chip recruit would give them the time of day.
Cash.
And easy to stay academically eligible.
Looks like KJ Henry said he'll be announcing his commitment on December 20th...hoping its an early Christmas present for Hokie Nation!
Momentum is shifting fast. Fuente and his staff sure know how to get the attention of recruits.....
I know Henry is more open then I am ( due to my promises I made) but it's gonna be fun down the stretch and when the stories come about how this coaching staff reels in recruits, then Fuente's comments will come true faster than we expect.
I mean... do we realistically have a shot at him? (KJ)
Big one we need is Dax and I know UNC is his 2nd place but, the dude wants to win and UNC is 1-5
Same story with Devyn Ford. We can't miss another HR running back
would love to push UNC to the precipice of being ineligible for a bowl. If LOLUVA manages to beat them, we could eliminate them bowl eligibility.
Henry feels the love and VT has made up serious ground but Clemson is still number one.
The others you will just have to wait and see.
Fuente's approach with Ford's recruitment is a great story if Ford ever decides to share it all.
i'll be honest, the reason i come to the recruiting thread is to read your insights:
Don't forget French, jreynolds6 and LaHokie
This sounds all warm and fuzzy but I'll believe it when I see it. Closing is the only thing that matters.
Then I guess I better know what I'm talking about when it comes to this stuff.
We going to get any 5 stars for this recruiting class or anymore 4 stars? I don't place much trust in stars due to all the kids from the Richmond area being letdowns but still fun to see them commit.
You are more optimistic than I, but last weekend was definitely a big help.
I felt the same way until #sauces gave me some updates insights.
As they are currently ranked, how many 4 stars do we come away with this year?
I think just one more (not counting QP getting his bump).
That ain't good
You really think just Hollfield in terms of left of the 4 stars we can pull in? Has the gervin ship sailed or does no one know where his mind is at? And I realistically think QP, Chamarri Conner (kid is gonna be a stud), and potential commit James Mitchell could end up as 4 stars as well.
Out of the 4 stars I think he is the most likely but it will come down to the wire. Like how things are trending with Alim but we're still second behind ncsu and will likely remain that way if they continue to show out. Walker is another one we're making up ground for but I think it will come down to whether or not psu has room. Gervin.... who the hell knows?
This is like watching mom and dad fight. So much sauce.
Haha no fighting at all. I agree wth BAG that there was a lot of good momentum from last week, but I'm not ready yet to jump all in.
Keep in mind that we probably get information from different people so this is likely 2nd or 3rd hand interpretations of what coaches are being told by 17 year old kids. Tons of room for error there.
I know that when all said and done we will be happy with how this year ended and how next year starts.
Hope you like some meat with your potatoes.
No Offense BAG you literally are the shit bro
i know I'm a pain in the ass with being vague but I try to give some hope. Recruiting is a scary world and we as fans only get bits and pieces about what goes on behind the scenes.
So guess at number of 4 stars?
2 more maybe 3 and one 3 star will get a bump and it's too early to count out a 5 star.
Man I hate making guesses this early. I am confident on a few of these but some of them have to do with the makeup of the player and that's hard to predict. (Aka: attention seekers, nothing wrong with it but I don't like not being right)
Not great but depending on the guys that will be ok to lead into '19.
I understand its hard to guess.
I know you're more secretive than I am and play things more close to the chest, but I'd love to compare info and see if we're hearing the same things.
Give me a few more weeks. There is a lot of info flying around and I don't like giving specifics till the dust clears
Yes this is a good idea. I'll mediate this conversation, you both can go ahead and send me all your insider info. Thanks!
What are Fuente's comments that will come true?
I'm guessing his comments after the Clemson game? Where he stated that the wheels are already set in motion, and we are going to catch Clemson.
From Tech Talk Live after the Clemson game:
Since we're updating b ball stuff here any updates from this weekend so far on duke or the other guy?
Landers Nolley committed to UGA yesterday night just to decommit from them earlier today
Nice
I'm sorry but what?
Landers Nolley committed to UGA last night and then he decommited from UGA 18 hours later. UGA and Tech was he's final 2
What is this guy thinking so we're favirites then or is he just going crazy??
Going to FSU
That joke has popped up 3 times in this thread. In my opinion I think he ends up at Tech but my opinion ain't worth much
I see a lot Illinois fans coming to the conclusion that since he didn't commit to Tech that means he didn't want to go to Tech so they think they are the favorites but my question to Illinois fans is then why wasn't Illinois in his final 2 instead of Tech?
New 247 CB at 10:01 today for the Good Guys.
This would be a huge get for Buzz and the gang
The funny thing is that one of the guys on there Jerry Meyer he had originally had Landers going to Tech Then he switched it to UGA the day Landers committed to UGA now has switched his prediction back to Tech
Didn't something similar happen with Chris Clarke and the Vols? Buzz must have a great 'come to Jesus' speech in his back pocket if we are able to land this guy in similar fashion.
Yes, but IIRC that was tied to their coach being tied up in recruiting violations during his time at Southern Miss.
That coach now has a 10 year show-cause from the NCAA.
Who besides Turner is enrolling early?
VT got a CB for 2020 5* RB Chris Tyree
psh, that's like 5 years out. Not getting excited for that anytime soon.
I'll still take it
That would be a huge get.
Wouldn't get too excited. We won't get both he and Ford, and I'm pretty confident about Ford right now. Tyree loves PSU
I understand your thinking there but I really wouldn't count this out so quickly.
#Sauce fight!!!

If nothing else, our coaches have demonstrated that multiple RB's will get touches in our offense. If they're both on the roster in 2020 they'll both get carries.
Just grabbed a CB or two for a 2019 big man from VA that I haven't heard mentioned here yet...
More OL bodies is a good thing
You could say it would Beaver-y good.
I'm all for Beaver protecting Hooker going deep for Pimp
Hope we can snatch him
Yeah, I'm sure there's a slot he can fill.
Nothing better than a 275 pound snatch.
Hokie. Good player too.
Nice to see you lodging your prediction so early on in the process
Always excited to see OL. His tape looks pretty good, seems pretty athletic, but would like to see him stay on his feet a little more...seems to end most plays on the ground (though to be fair, the guy he's blocking is usually on the ground too).
Oh, we must land this kid. The Robin Sparkles gifs will be endless
Wonder if this guy is his dad. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://health.usne...
I think this would be better if he's name was Wynona Big Brown Beaver
primus sucks
someone obviously doesn't like primus as much at they think they do
Yes Primus absolutely SUCKS
My latest great unfulfilled idea is to buy a Prius, change the marque to PriMus, paint it brown and get personalized "WYNONA" plates.
That would be a beautiful thing to see my idea for my car is for the hood to have the pig from the pork soda album cover spray painted on there
A Primus Prius is just a great idea! Love it. Alternate vanity plate ideas:
MUD
JERRY
SGT BAKER
MR KRINKLE
Mine would be MR KNOWITALL
what kinda wack plates you got with 12 characters on them???
Don't worry about it
I wood not mind him committing, I bet he plays his dam tail off!
Be sure to go vote for Tre Turner and Cole Beck:
http://dreamfearlessly.underarmourgame.com/
Savion Jackson released his top 10...
It's obvious Ohio State is his number one
Nah, his clenched hand is closest to VT. Obviously, he's trying to pull himself toward Blacksburg.
I, for one, am not exactly stoked about the VT's position. I mean, it could be worse, could be USCe...
Looks more like he's trying to "pull himself" on VT. Who knew he was left-handed?
If he is like most high school males, he is thinking with his junk, so I think we are in a good position.
Go fund me for Sean Savoy's brother
Look at the outpouring from HokieNation!!
Just to make sure this isn't any sort ofNCAA violation is it?
There may be some rules but strangers giving to the family that happens to be a player shouldn't be. If the school made a donation then it could be I imagine.
it's a blurry line between "strangers" and "boosters"
Disagree. NCAA cannot restrict anyone other than coaches, university staff and anyone else who may have signed a formal contract with them. But they have zero ability to restrict anyone else from donating charitably. They can attempt to penalize the player or VT if they wish but that would be a great lawsuit to pay for. I would definitely support VT to lead that charge.
Especially if they tried to do that after doing absolutely nothing to UNC.
This.
The right thing is the right thing.
If it runs afoul of policy, then it is a great time to review/change policy.
I agree that, in this case, that's how it should be. BUT, playing devil's advocate, what's to keep a fan of, say, an SEC school from giving large monetary gifts to family members of players/recruits on behalf of his team of choice, though not officially condoned by said team?
Short answer, Nothing.
Boosters have been finding new ways to give to kids and their familes all the time. But for a non governmental organization its on the NCAA to find proof that the money donated to those families was for illicit reasons. If it's a thing it will most likely be caught sooner or later. Look at this sports wear scandal. It was all white gloved by the apparel companies and they still got caught.
But honestly these people are all morons. If you're trying to get a kid to a school here's how you do it. Create an offshore SPV entity in non-taxable, non-US jurisdiction with money in the account, for example 200k, then draft a legal handover held by lawyers or the bank overseas that states in 4 years (or whatever time period so long as the kid is no longer in school) that company will be automatically signed over to X person. At that time X person withdraws the money how they see fit, paying tax if bringing to USA and claiming it as income.
Zero chance NCAA can ever find proof.
Except you have to explain that to a high schooler, who then has to trust you in matters they know nothing about, while your competition is handing over cold hard cash.
In fact your plan combines two of the hardest obstacles known to man, getting a high schooler (or really anyone) to delay gratification, AND getting someone to take the time to understand finance
You're overthinking it. Delaying gratification is how I would do it if I were the booster, but you don't have to do that. You could sign it over immediately. Or hell you could assign a debit card to it and let them withdraw cash on daily basis. So many ways.
well that settles it. If Tech starts recruiting me for...something, then I want Fern as my handler.
Idea!
Or a booster donates to the local church where the recruit attends. Then the church makes a donation to the family.....
Wait, that happens already...
Apparently it was cleared through the compliance office before it was started.
David Duke announcing Friday. Honestly think it's 50-50 between VT and Providence. Also think he would be Buzz's first recruit at VT where there's a punchers chance he is one and done (I don't think NAW is here all 4 years, but don't think he's one and done either.)
I give a slight advantage to the hokies
My goodness, the replies. Some of these Providence fans, man.
What they saying
Just watch out for Jerry Meyer and Andrew Slater if they switch their crystal ball prediction those 2 are usually the ones I keep up with
Hard to see him not picking the home-town school here.
I can see it only because of Wabissa Bede
Given that he was an essentially a Providence lock for months before he OVed here, I'd say if he picks VT it would be one of Buzz's most impressive selling jobs since he's been at VT. He's gotten guys like NAW and Clarke, but has yet to really go against and snag a recruit against a home town school.
Duke to Providence. And the CBs were actually right
Slater CB for Providence.
If jerry moves his to providence it's over
His just flipped, too
And there it goes Well it's over now but I can see somehow
Take Gervin off the list...
CBs coming in, all MSU
Is he gone?
Why is that?
We need a follow up here
Why do you say that? He has this pinned on twitter:
Well your not being to jolly today Jollyman...
Our CB projection only went down 4 percentage points since like Monday
so I'm confused
Edit: No longer vague
Yea baby! Happy Friday!!!
maybe a little substance of why? this is pretty much
clickbaitscrollbaitI'm gonna guess he has a source. Jolly quite often has insights on recruiting and may have heard something. You don't ask BAG or LAHokie every time they post something how they know it.
But they also tell when they have #sauces with their stuff or if they think it is a hunch. They don't post 1 liners regarding negative news with 0 substance to go with it. A bit of a shitpost.
agreed... thats pretty much where I was coming from
He probably read 247 where Vt mods and some national guys flipped their CBs to Michigan State...no sources needed to read that....
yea and how many times have we seen national "experts" flip their CB and end up being wrong? many times. I don't trust CB's as much as some people do.
and even if it was what he did, would have been nice for him to put that in his OP
Wiltfong is a national guy with a 90% accuracy rating year over year. Unless 1/10 is "many" times. I'm sure anecdotal evidence from some wrong instances are better
Great.... That's one guy who didn't even predict David Duke's choice. Sure there are going to be a handful amount of "experts" with high % correct predictions, but for everyone of those, there are so many more that are going to be between 50-70% and a lot of those guys just change it based off what others experts change it to in hopes they will build up their correct prediction rate.
All I am saying is that we all have seen it or lived it before with guys we hope to commit to us (basketball or football)... One guy predicts VT to land such recruit, and then other predict it too, and then recruit picks some other team. Does that happen more often? No... there are some experts out there that do have great connections but does it happen enough to questions the validity? IMHO yes.
The recent trend has been the CB's come in a week or so before the commit date for VT and then the day of they all suddenly switch to another team. The people making predictions still get the CB "right", but it's only because the information leaked an hour or two before the recruit announced his commitment.
CBs are really a good way to know who has momentum with a recruit, but I don't really pay attention to who is winning, even the day before a recruit announces a commitment.
For momentum I agree for the most part. I was just saying more of these so called "experts" are just switching their picks based on a handful of experts picks at the last minute like you mentioned who actually know/hear something from the recruit.
What are you talking about? Wiltfong is a national football guy. He doesn't do any basketball picks. Why the hell would he have done duke?
When gervin picks msu I'm sure you'll say he got lucky too. If you want to bet against 90% hit rate be my guest. Maybe he'll flip it, but if gervin committed today, it wouldn't be us
Yes, I know he's a football only guy, thats why I wasn't sure why you brought him up beside of his 90% prediction rate. Maybe some basketball only guy with same % would have been better.
You brought up one example (wiltfong) who has that % but for everyone of those so called "experts", you have so many more other so called "experts" that are way lower in %. And again, most of those other experts are just changing their prediction based on a handful of higher % experts.
As long as he switches his guess 1 second before the decision, he is considered correct. I am not saying that in this situation he is wrong on where he goes because generally if a bunch of people switch together, that is where the player is going. "Where there is smoke, there is fire". I am just pointing out that the accuracy ratings are all BS.
So look at a predictors average days correct... I swear people take cbs with no context
Thank you, finally someone else understands what I was trying to say
Hard to say it's over with this guy... great player but until his name is signed on the dotted line, I wouldn't put much into his commitment. He know where we stand and we are ina good spot but he is treating his recruiting like a Saturday morning trip to Sam's. He's just making his rounds sampling everything multiple times with no care for what people think.
Didn't he have a commitment video ready?
Yea but from what my #sauces tell me the video isn't concrete that he will stay. Coaches will stay on him till the last minute
Anyone know the deal with 2018 WR Rashod Bateman getting an offer this week? Not only is he already a Minnesota commit, but I thought it was Daniel George or bust at WR after we got Simmons? Seems a little strange.
Late bloomer, going to blow up due to senior film. Good VT brand recognition at that HS with Horne and Jackson on hoops team.
IMO this is our most realistic outcome for the remainder of the class:
Dax
Artis
Tenuta
Webb
Mitchell
Have a shot at walker but I don't think it's too strong. A couple dominoes would have to fall for that work in our favor.
Alim is going to ncsu unless we blow him away on his OV
McFadden flips to clemson and tenuta fills his spot.
Snag one more lite cycle developmental guy a la devise last year and either let him then RS or make his way to FUMA like darrisaw
So Penn State filling up on Parsons/Smith and OSU getting Carmen and some other guy?
Your first point was most accurate. They'll only take one Elite lineman they're not sur it's him.
From there. It's a VT/OSU/UMD battle. That battle will come down to where feels comfortable and to me that's UMD, VT.
Honestly I think the hats that are at the table when the day comes are for MD OSU VT....... and maybe psu
247 says Alim's OV is for December 8th...is that accurate? If so, is it normal to visit on a weekend that doesn't have a game? Maybe it would be better in that he could have more 1-1 time with coaches? I would assume he's been to games at VT before and has experienced that atmosphere so an OV without a home game wouldn't be terrible.
I'd be really happy with that haul. Added in with the other MEN in this class. Another haul we need to turn that corner.

I like how they highlight the DB who got juked so hard that he ended up in the stands.
Do their jerseys not have a school name or number on them?
Glad to see another 2012 Fisheries Science grad!
Hey there! There were only about 20 of us so I have to assume we know each other
My thoughts too. I compared your birthday on TKP. We're Facebook friends lol
Kalon Gervin sets the date for December 2nd.

My newest Dax Hollifield report:
Coach Fuente and Bud are in Shelby and are currently at Shelby High School eating lunch and hanging out with Dax. Some good info that I thought you all might appreciate. Let's close the deal on this kid! Go Hokies!
This is the best news I've heard all day.
I hope it was a quick lunch as he is only allowed to bump into him....
What's the deal with Spalding? He's been listed as warm on us for a while but hasn't been mentioned in this thread. Looks like a good size kid with solid hands and runs well after the catch. Are we still on him or was he lost long ago and 247 just hasn't updated anything?
I have no information, but I have a feeling that we aren't all that interested.
We already have two WRs (Turner and Simmons) and three athletes (Ellis, Thompson and Chatman) that could end up being WRs.
I don't see another WR as a priority with Savoy, Hazleton, Grimsley, Patterson, Farley, Kumah, and Pimpleton as young guys in the program. I also read that we offered another WR that is committed to Minnesota, so you can see where there priorities are.
We need DL, OL, DB, and LB in the remaining spots.
That makes sense I forgot about that aspect of it. I thought Chatman would for sure stick on defense but who knows I though Divine was a lock for WR then he switched. And yea Rashod Bateman. He looks pretty good I'd like to see if we can swing him.
But to your point we definitely need other positions more. I feel like like CornFu came in and saw a lack of WR's and just offered everybody. For next year we will have a decent returning corps plus young guys coming up so I think we can slow down on that front and start going after program changing defensive players. Devon was a good start but we can't lose guys from Virginia like we lost Josh Sweat. Need to dominate in state recruiting if we really want those guys.
So what your saying is in regards to Spaulding is...
I'm glad someone else brought him up, as he's one of my favorite targets. I think a while ago those with #sauces said we were not pursuing him anymore, and others had said it was Daniel George or bust. I was fine with that until we recently offered another WR in this class (Bateman). With some of our younger receivers not really stepping up that much this year (Denmark, Patterson - injured, and Kumah - until the BC game) I was quietly and hopefully wondering if we would open up a spot for Spalding.
I would still love to see what Spalding would do in CornFu's offense. With that being said, I thought Bateman's film was pretty impressive as well.
I think I had gotten to the point of accepting that we wouldn't land Spalding, and if we did it was likely only because we missed on some other higher priority targets to make room for him. This new offer gives me new hope.
Kid had himself a game too.
I wonder if the media will ever figure out that it's Fuente, not Fuentes.
Auto correct does it. It's happened to me a few times
Nolley to VT
Big recruiting weekend boizzzz. Dax, KJ, Tre, and many more of the NC crew, as well as some others, will be in the house for their official. A great opportunity for us to secure our top spot for some (Dax) and maybe steal that pole position from another school (KJ). Need to make it a great environment from the get-go and jump all over those cheaters from Chapel Hill.
And just a little nugget for you guys, Fuente does not mind running th score up on those baby blue idiots. Theres a reason we didn't slowdown at 17-3 last year in that hurricane...
Would he rather run up the score with starters or let backups get experience? If DT, LB, and CB backups don't get experience next year seems like it could be scary for our D and not in a good way.
Honestly with the way they've been playing lately, we could probably accomplish both.
Not that I don't believe you, but 17-3 isn't exactly a time to stop trying to score lol. No coach in teh country is gonna stop looking to score while only up 2 TDs.
Also that mindset is worrying to me and doesn't sound like Fuente at all. That basically means that he is already looking ahead to how much we are gonna win by and there is no reason to be assuming victory is secured before the game is already played. I hope this is just hearsay because I don't want my head coach imposing this mindset on the players.
Kind of take it as if he has the opportunity he's going to do it. And I have no issue with it. Pop pass up 28-0 etc.
I would think that part of the game plan is always to discuss what to do when up or down by a large margin. I wouldn't read anymore into it than that.
I was talking about last year. Beamer would've sat on a 17-3 lead in a hurricane and would have just been extremely conservative with his playcalling. You can make the argument that fuente turned it up later in the game.
I live in Raleigh
Nothing would make me happier than to hang 70 on those baby blue bastards
I know what you were referring to. I'm just saying I wouldn't really categorize that as running the score up. You bring up Beamer, but we played countless games where we continued to score after being up 14 points. That's just par for the course in college football. Two TDs is far from safe.
2nd half playcalling by drive:
1 pass (22 yard TD pass to go up 20-3)
4 runs (TD drive)
5 runs, 1 pass (including a run on 3rd and 17)
3 runs
11 runs, 1 pass
4 runs
8 runs
Sounds fairly conservative to me, though all runs are not the same. There's no evidence to suggest that Fuente really tried to pour it on, but UNC kept turning it over and VT just kept scoring. Their 3 TDs in the 2nd half came after UNC turnovers.
Don't forget the rain had a big impact on the run-pass ratio. I remember a TKP comment last year speculating that Fuente called the big pass play right away in the second half because it was better odds right after halftime (the footballs and players themselves have dried off and been cleaned up a bit). But as the rain continued, pass plays became increasingly more risky.
Well, yes, but the argument was that Fuente kept trying to pour it on up 17-3 (when the game was never 17-3, but I digress). Once VT went up 3 scores UNC was helpless and the offense basically just needed to take care of the football and did just that.
yup. i actually think fuente is fairly conservative as a play-caller, execution is just higher now
I just love revisionist history to fit revisionist narrative.
First of all, the score was 13-3 at the half (and the game was still very much in question with UNC getting the 2nd half KO). So, one, it would have taken two safeties to make it 17-3. Secondly, Tech made it 20-3 early in the 2nd half on 1 play, 22 yard drive following a UNC fumble after receiving the 2nd half KO. VT then made it 27-3 with a 4 play, 4 yard after a UNC fumble on the following possession.
VT scored only 7 points in the remaining 40+ minutes of the game. And yet again it was an easy score on a 4 play, 29 yard drive following a UNC fumble with over 6 min to go in the game.
In addition, other than the late, short TD drive, VT's last two drives were a 12 play, 22 yard, 7+ min drive (resulting in a punt) and an 8 play, 21 yard drive, ~5 min drive to end the game.
The final score difference was largely determined by the VT D and UNC's O ineptitude. There is no absolutely evidence that Fuente "turned it up later in the game" or the outcome would have been any different under Beamer given the circumstances. In fact the opposite is almost certainly true.
Sorry, got the score wrong. Regardless, that fits what I've been told even more. If it was 13-3 at halftime that means we scored 21 points in the second half.
I'm also not just making this up. I was told told Fuente's feelings about UNC from a VT staff member. I've provided a good amount of information over here that's been right, and I'm certainly confident in my sources.
You're welcome to choose whether or not to believe it, but I come here to provide free information to you all. If you don't want it then don't read what I post.
"""I don't like UNC" -Michael Scott" -Justin Fuente" -Michael Scott
Fuente is probably annoyed that Fedora keeps lying to croots and telling them UNC has the best offensive system in the P5/ACC/Coastal.
That's not what he's arguing though. He's pointing out that the team played very conservatively in the second half and just fell into points, which seems to be true. No one's doubting your sources, just the idea that we purposely ran up the score.
boomroasted.gif
I find it funny that this has a downvote. How dare you bring facts and what actually happened into the argument.
It's not the facts, it's the way they are presented. You, KK, Marc and Moiwfjidhgh are having a 1 sided debate that comes across as pushy and condescending when all the guy is trying to do is tell us that Fuente wouldn't mind running up the score on UNC if the chance is given.
The point is that his assertion isn't supported by the evidence he claims.
"You can make the argument that fuente turned it up later in the game." The problem is there's nothing suggesting that. Fuente may indeed reject Fedora, his works and all his empty promises but nothing that happened in last year's game says that Fuente indeed tried to run up the score or was gunning for a bigger victory, at least in terms of the offensive playcalling. People are entitled to their own opinions. They aren't entitled to their own facts.
My point is that this subthread is way too long. Moving on...
Deleted because I regret getting involved at all
It's that simple. Not sure why everyone needs to get up in arms in semantics about all this. It's petty.
This completely ignores what we've actually seen from Fuente thus far in 1 1/2 seasons and connects non-existant dots in order to come to same false conclusion.
Fuentes clearly went conservative in the game. It is up for debate whether he did it to milk the lead or to back off the gas. IMO, it was both. Regardless, the 2016 UNC game was a terrible choice for making a comparison between Fuente and Beamer.
While there may some merit to saying Fuente is more "ruthless" than Beamer, it's overstated. Neither really believed in pulling starters early and both would prefer to run the ball with a 2 to 3 score lead late. The biggest difference I see is Fuente sees the short pass game as an extension of the running game whereas Beamer wasn't wired that way. He saw defense/field position as an extension of the running game (making it very difficult for the other team to score was nearly as effective as running the ball).
Haha Jesus I never that a little insight on how our head coach feels about UNC would cause so much controversy.
Let's do ourselves all a favor and leave it alone. No need to fight over it. Whether you believe me or not, just agree to cheer as hard and loud as we did against Clemson on Saturday. This may not be a big game in terms of the coastal race, but it is a huge one from an external standpoint.
Go back and read your original post and tell me how it relates to this attempt to now take the high road? You were mostly just taking a poorly supported shot at Beamer.
For the record, I believe your source about Fuente's disregard for UNC's program. But I don't believe Fuente tried to run up the score on UNC. Would he if he could? Probably. But UNC did it largely by themselves last year, so why force the issue?
I also don't believe he was the only one who lost no sleep over the 31 point blowout. It's not a well kept secret that Beamer, Foster, et al also have low regard for UNC's program - long before Fuente's opinion was formed.
Chill out and watch some spegetti western dude
THATS HIS ENTIRE POINT!!! At what point was he taking a parting shot at Beamer?
Don't know if it was a "shot" but he definitely made a reference to Beamer being conservative. Its inaccurate really since the fact that Fuente came into the hurricane with a conservative game plan is the whole reason we smoked the pass happy baby blue.
Geez some folks need to chill out on the downvoting around here.
I think he's comments are just a little bit mean
I didn't downvote you at all.
But no one can argue that Beamer was conservative playcaller. Not that I don't love Beamer butnhe wasn't running any score up and if we did it was just because the plays happened to pop.
Again I think the point is if that Fuente has the ability to drop 70 on UNC he will according to sources. He won't to others so the data to support him running up scores isn't there.
Nobody downvoted me and sorry if I insinuated you were downvoting Marc.
You're absolutely right that Beamer was a conservative coach. That was my point though, Fuente basically beat the socks off of UNC last year with a Beamer game plan.
Edit: never mind, new recruiting thread was created. Problem solved.
Oh, don't worry. I'm sure it'll carry over. /s
He did it again. Maybe Fuente is letting Beamer run practice on UNC weeks.
No kidding. Who cares?
Maybe its more the way that you and Marc are coming off in the "argument" in which LA isn't arguing at all. You aren't even focused on the main takeaway from his post and are instead harping on the second half score of last years game -- I'm not sure why its so hard to imagine that someone forgot the drive by drive playout from over a year ago? Try changing the tone and making it less of an attack.
Funny how it's not an argument when someone makes an assertion based on false facts, yet it's an argument when someone disagree with that assertion and points out the false facts.
I didn't miss the main takeaway of his post. That's why I noted the "revisionist history to fit revisionist narrative".
IMO his point is tired and overstated, IMO -- and his use of false facts to rationalize it just shows how tired and overstated it is.
I do not get your sense of humor here.
Beamer wouldn't have sat on a 17-3 (actually 13-3) if the other team turned it over 3 times deep in its own territory. He certainly would have gone for the TD the first two times and probably the 3rd time since there was still plenty of time left in the game.
Fuentes almost certainly would have sat on a 17-3 4th qtr lead in that weather. He would have run the ball every play (and often with his best runner, the QB) until he couldn't. This isn't speculation; it is basically what happened.
VT ran 38 non-punt plays in the 2nd half vs UNC. ONE pass on its 1st play of the 2nd half for a TD to make it 20-3. After that? 7 rushes, one QB dropback for a 12 yard loss, then another 29 rushes.
In no way whatsoever can you make the argument Fuente turned it up later in that game.
Fuente not ******** "Fuentes"
Whatever we have to do to change our recruiting motto from "next year's gonna' be our year."
Got a another CB for 4-star juco transfer, Jeremy Webb
would really help secondary depth for next year to have an instant starter like him....
I can see the puns already...
I like that the predictions are leaning VT, but I wouldn't get too caught up in them.
Let's see how WV spins this one when we get him.
But looking at these crystal orb weaver predictions makes us very favorable
Tre Turner is down .01% with less than an hour to go, make it happen Hokie Nation ( you can vote a couple times using different browsers)
http://dreamfearlessly.underarmourgame.com/
Beck is on their too with a less than 1% lead.
Turner's losing more ground.
Beck and Turner both came away victorious. Should we boycott the next round, now that they face off against each other.
I'm going to vote from my phone for Beck and from my computer for Turner. That way they both feel some Hokie love... but yea... not a fan of the second round matchup.
I think it is pretty special who Beck and Turner beat out. Dyami Brown and Nana Asiedu not getting the love.
HokieNation > PSU and UNCheat
I don't really have any real #sauces, but this kid plays where I grew up/went to high school, and from what i've heard he was on campus and pretty impressed by VT during the Clemson game. He's currently the #1 overall recruit in the country for the class of '20 according to the 247 composite, and at the moment seems to be really high on OSU, also with offers from Bama, FSU, UGA, Clemson, Michigan, etc.
Obviously could all be rumors and either way is definitely a long shot going against some blue bloods, but it's still pretty far off. It'd be pretty cool if the staff could rope him in. Last guy from my high school to play for Tech was Matt Reidy who played from 07-09 on ST and backup at Rover.
Never in my life have I seen a 247 rating of 1.0000. Ever
wow
Prepare to have your mind blown
https://247sports.com/Sport/Football/AllTimeRecruitRankings
Wow, I knew KJ was a 5 star and really special for us but damn
Took me a second to realize you were talking about Kevin Jones, not KJ Henry. Yea tied for 22nd highest recruit of all time is pretty sweet
You're not the only one...
Haha yeah I figured that might throw people off but posted it without clarifying anyway. My B
No problem...I'll take both KJ's!
KJ should be there this weekend and show up with MV7 to say hi to #KJ2VT
I know they are kids but he still looks like one.....at 6'5 230.
I can't even imagine how big of a beast he will be when he is full grown (makes me lol thinking that 6'5 230 is his kid size)
For real.
Class of '20 means he's a Sophomore this year, so what, 16 years old? That's absurd.
I haven't watched any of the games this year, but I'd wager he's probably a big reason why the high school is 8-0 with the opponent only scoring more than 10 twice this season.. most anyone has scored on them was 18 and they still won by 24. Back to back state champs for their division and looks like theyre going to be favored for a third in a row this year.
