This week will mark the halfway point of the season. After last week's party where we all got entirely too hype, here comes hangover week in the mausoleum at BC. Blech. At least it's an evening kickoff.
Shout out this week to TKP'er "Stephen Vikel", who managed to pick all eight games wrong against the spread. Odds of doing that at random are 1-in-256, and we've now had it in back-to-back weeks after RocketHokie13 accomplished it last week.

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 7

Duke at UVA (-2)
Factoid #1: Duke University was founded by a mysterious individual, who used the money gained from industrial espionage to found a school named after himself.
Factoid #2: After bludgeoning Boise State on the smurf turf, UVA is actually favored in a football game! Against a P5 team, even!
PICK: Not sure what to make of UVA at this point, but Duke is being unfairly downgraded after the Miami loss. They win here.
WVU at TCU (-12)

Factoid #1: As of this writing, VT has had the Black Diamond Trophy for the last 4749 days.
Factoid #2: TCU hosts College GameDay this week. All campuses that hosted it this year have lost.
PICK: TCU is getting a lot of credit for the OK State win, but I think WVU covers here.

LSU at Florida (-3)
Factoid #1: While VT was losing to Clemson, LSU was losing to Troy. Yes, Sun Belt Troy, who snapped LSU's 49 game non-conference home winning streak. Troy's Twitter account torched LSU afterward.
Factoid #2: Florida's three wins this season have come by a combined 21 points.
PICK: LSU's not very good, and I knew they'd regret the Orgeron hire. Florida's offense has turned the corner, and they cover.

Miami (-3) at Florida State
Factoid #1: In an effort to harken back to the days when they were both great and cheating, Miami has started rewarding defenders for creating turnovers with jewelry.
Factoid #2: Florida State finally broke through with their first win of the season last week, a 26-19 blowout over Wake Forest.
PICK: Miami seems to be finally putting it together under Richt. I have no idea why this line's so close. Miami in a rout.

Air Force at Navy (-8)
Factoid #1: As big as the Army-Navy game is annually, and as good as Navy has been the last several years, Air Force actually has won the Commander-in-Chief's Trophy most often. Pictured: the inaugural game.
Factoid #2: Ken Niumatalolo is now the longest-tenured football coach in Navy history. Doesn't feel like it's been that long.
PICK: Air Force's defense is not good at all this year, and they're probably not going bowling. Navy in a blowout.

Michigan State at Michigan (-10)
Factoid #1: It's getting hard to find anything new to say about Michigan State. It feels like they've been in the pick'em every week.
Factoid #2: It's getting hard to find anything new to say about Michigan. It feels like they've been in the pick'em every week.
PICK: This line feels about right, but I feel like a 14-point win is possible too, so I'll go with Michigan.

Washington State (-2)at Oregon
Factoid #1: Washington State knocked off #5 USC last week, vaulting them up to #11. USC responded by knocking off Wazzu's fans.
Factoid #2: Duck Tales' revival continues to garner solid reviews, much like Willie Taggart's revival of the Oregon Ducks.
PICK: Strong chance of a letdown after a huge win last week for Wazzu. I'll take Oregon.

Stanford (-5) at Utah
Factoid #1: Stanford RB Bryce Love ran for 301 yards last week. On just 25 carries. He's on pace to catch Barry Sanders' single-season record.
Factoid #2: Utah's 4-0 so far this year. Yeah, I hadn't noticed either.
PICK: Utah is the better team when healthy, but with QB Tyler Huntley out they'll struggle. Stanford wins & covers.
DRINK OF THE WEEK:

Buffalo Trace was one of those things I discovered when looking for a house bourbon. It was always inexpensive and easily available. It was cheap enough that I didn't feel bad mixing it with Coke, but tasty enough to enjoy neat.
That was like 5 years ago. Now it sells out faster than the distillery can keep up with it. I've had to downgrade to Jim Beam as my house whiskey, and that makes me sad.
Remember, we're making our picks on CBSSports.com (LINKY HERE), though feel free to let everybody know what the correct answers will be in the comments.

Comments
That tweet from Troy University was savage.
As long as the Hokies take care of business before the bye week and UVA and Dook both lose playing each other, I'll be a happy camper.
Duke duh
WVU
Florida
FSU won't start 1-3
Navy
Michigan
Oregon (barely)
Stanford
EDIT: Forgot my beer of the week! I'm loving Octoberfests, and the Bell's Marzen is a great one this time of year.
Duke
WVU

I'll be back in Detroit this weekend for a wedding so will be going with a hometown classic. Not the greatest beer but I can drink 1000 of these bad boys.
Motor City Brewing Works Ghettoblaster. The name also reminds me of Omar Little's shotgun.

I went 1-7 last week I can only assume its karma biting me in the ass after posting the Ron Swanson laughing gif in response to the guy that went 0-8 two weeks ago..
Same 1-7 for me.....sigh
I was hoping to gain some ground after forgetting to pick week 3... I'm quite a few games back now.
Holy shit I was so bad last week.
it was a rough week all around. Best was only 5 right. I got 3 so I'm calling that a win. Now if everyone ahead of me could go ahead and lay a goose egg this week, it would be much appreciated.
Could be worse, I am doing average followed by bad, average followed by bad. Guess that means I get to be average this week.
Duke (+2) ... because you can't change your dna over night, you need years of good coaching like the blue devils
WVU (+12) ... that's a lot of points to a very good offense, i'll take the cousins.
Florida (-3) ... the gators aren't great, but they are at home and LSU is going to have to prove it.
Florida State (+3) ... something isn't right in Tallahasse, but a home dog ... gimme that action
Navy (-8) ... I Stand for the triple option!
Michigan (+10) ... MSU's biggest game, they'll be up in a low scoring slug fest
Washington State (-2) ... Wazzou is the better team, but if they are feeling their oats to much, they'll lose, tho 1 extra day to prepare should help
Utah (+5) ... F if i know, i'll take the home dog.
BotW:

My daughter's softball tournament will take me close to my friend's brewery in Chesapeake, Big Ugly Brewing. A fine placeto growler up for the 7:15 kick. They just released their Boysenberry and Black Currant Gose and it looks amazing.
TotW:

The short bus with a party deck ... acceptable!
Man, not like it mattered, but I did my picks last week, even posting them in the weekly thread Proof.... But, I forgot to hit enter in CBS. Such a stupid! 3-5 isn't going to do much for me anyway...
Do better this week.
Puke
Hill-billy butt-kicking by TCU
El Es Ewe
Miami, bigly
Air Force
State
Wazu
Stanford, straight up.
Picked up some of this for Saturday night. It was ranked the 37th best IPA by Paste magazine, for what that's worth.........just sayin. That will be after golf and hitting Burley Oak for a few post round brews.

Beer of the Week is anything from Triple Crossing. They finally got some love outside of RVA by getting 2 beers (Interstellar Burst and Ivory Tower) inside the top 5 of Paste Magazine's blind DIPA taste-test consisting of 176 beers.
They're releasing All Neon Everything IPA for only the second time, and for the first time in 4 packs this week. I shared a crowler with someone a while back after having quite a few but thought it was good at the time. So I can't wait to see how it is tonight.
Also out today for the sour beer fans, the Waxing Poetic Berliner Weisse with Mango and Blackberry. I'll buy any variant of Waxing Poetic they ever put out. Each one they've done packs some serious pucker along with just enough sweet fruit flavor.
My personal favorite brewery anywhere, owned at least partly by Hokie alumni. You just can't go wrong with TCB
