It's all about value though. Would Aguayo have been there in the 3rd, 4th, or 5th rounds? Quite possibly yes. Would the bucs have been able to draft him in the 2nd without having to give up additional compensation to move up to get him? probably

Yeah, this is really where it all stems from. And almost every kicker I've heard interviewed insists that the mental part of the game is huge. The talent is obviously there, they just screwed the kid over by trading up and putting that much pressure on him.
That said, the Bears worked him out this week, and I wouldn't be surprised to see the dude shake it off and become a serviceable NFL kicker eventually

Could the bucs have also just dragged in either a street or undrafted free agent and gotten somebody who can make kicks? Probably.
My extremely unscientific survey of NFL kickers on ESPN indicates only 13/32 were drafted, with almost all of them coming in the 5/6/7 (Gostkowski was 4th, and lol Sebastian Janikowski in the 1st God rest Al Davis' soul).

He has been a pretty good kicker for quite a while, I hate him because he was 48 year old man Chris Weinke's kicker when they rode Peter Warrick to a National Championship.
I also am a Denver Broncos fan. The only kick that I can remember Sebas kicking was years ago when Mike Shanahan iced him as he tried to kick a 56ish yarder as time expired to win. First one he hit, but the timeout. Second one he drilled off the top of the left upright (thing would have been good from 75). Long story to say "he is/was good, but he wasn't perfect", and there are a lot of kickers who are good but not perfect.
Al Davis is my second favorite NFL owner ever. The guy ran the Raiders in to the ground so hard and for so long that they're only just now starting to rebuild from his spectacularly bad draft choices (lol Jamarcus Russel). We had a day of mourning when he died.

I'm a Bucs fan. This is probably at least the third or fourth loss in the last two seasons that have stemmed from kicking woes. I'd like to see us stick with Folk for a few more weeks then sign Cairos Santos since the Chiefs waived him. He's been consistent in KC.
With that being said I'm almost to the point where I'm afriad theres some bad juju in the locker room. Both Folk and Aguayo were at worst good kickers.

Didn't they give up on Aguayo a little soon? He's not the first 2nd round draft pick to struggle in his rookie year. Let him work through his growing pains. He's a talented guy. He wasn't a 3-time first team All-American on accident. Seemed premature to dump him after one year.

In Davis's defense, he was a damn good kicker for well over a decade. Didn't he finally retire just this year?
He's still going but has back issues and isn't currently playing. Still rostered with the Raiders though!
