As expected... 6-day hold for VT-Miami and NC State-Clemson... pic.twitter.com/cLnXO2UDC5— #DaHale (@DavidHaleESPN) October 23, 2017
That's four possible channel/timeslot combos. 3:30 on ESPN or ABC, 7:15 on ESPN, or 8 on ABC.
Other games with those possible timeslots:
Ohio State at Iowa – Noon or 3:30pm, FOX/ABC/ESPN
Penn State at Michigan State – Noon or 3:30pm, FOX/ABC/ESPN
Arizona at USC – 3:30/10/10:45pm, FOX/FS1/ESPN
Oregon at Washington – 3:30/10/10:45pm, FOX/FS1/ESPN
Stanford at Washington State – 3:30/10/10:45pm, FOX/FS1/ESPN
It looks like one of those two ACC games is getting Saturday Night Football. I'm betting that they're planning for the other ACC game to be ESPN primetime, and just hedging their bets.

Comments
Haven't looked into it at all - is it possible that VT vs. Miami gets gameday?
More than likely not, unless LSU falls out of the rankings or Oklahoma or Oklahoma State loses this week.
I'd guess we are their third pick
Games that Day
#23 LSU at #1 Bama
#2 Penn St at #16 Mich St
#7 Clemson at #14 NC St
#13 VT at #8 Miami
#10 OU at #11 OK St
#20 Stanford at #15 Wazzu
#25 Iowa St at #22 WVU
Texas at #4 TCU
#6 Ohio St at Iowa
#19 Auburn at Texas A&M
1. Bedlam- I think this is most likely just a gut feeling
2. a) NC St. -If NC State beats ND an absolute top 10 matchup for the Atlantic between the reigning champion and a Dark horse that has lived up to expectations
2. b) Coral Gables- is the U bak? Coastal Title on the line
3. Pullman for Wazzu...Gameday Finally comes home for Old Crimson
Wow, that's a lot of ranked matchups.
Yeah, a lot of them at the same time too. uuggghhh
Doesn't seem like a bad thing to me. The teams ranked ahead of us have a lot of challenging games in the coming weeks. The more that get to 2 losses, the better it is for us. NC State beating ND would be huge as it knocks out ND and increases the likelihood of the Atlantic champ being highly ranked. There's also a good chance the Big 12 will be down to 1 team with playoff hopes, and the PAC-12 could almost certainly eliminated as well. The biggest concerns would be a 1 loss Penn State not in the B1GCG and an undefeated Alabama/UGA SECCG.
Really need WVU to knock off Oklahoma State this week. Would help our SOS and increase chances of Gameday.
Agreed it helps SOS, but I could take or leave gameday. I guess for me it is great for exposure for the #brand, but its also not in blacksburg and weirdly I want them to go to Pullman or Raleigh. They've never been to Pullman so I think it would be cool for the pure novelty of seeing how many crimson flags they can hoist, honestly if they got it it should just be flags. Also I think it may take pressure off (but maybe that's just my feeling).
I think if GameDay goes to Washington State, then all of the schools that have hosted since the flag streak began should try to send their own flag.
I am for this as well.
I'd have to bet Gameday is at Bedlam, considering the rivalry and the rankings of both teams. I would have us at Miami a close second. Too bad Bedlam was scheduled for the same day!
I believe we have gone all season without a nooner!! Now watch them make the Pitt game a nooner...
It all depends on if NCSU can beat ND...
If state wins this week, they get the 8:30 kickoff and Gameday. If ND wins, both likely happen for VT-Miami.
No way Miami VT gets game day.
That would require fans
Just do it on the beach in south beach and it will a be unique location like NYC was.
Agreed, this wouldn't be a bad spot. Ok State has to travel to WVU this weekend, and NCSU is at ND. So an Oklahoma State and NC State loss could make this game the most attractive GameDay spot if both us and Miami take care of business this weekend. Would also likely put us very close to #10 heading into the game.
No way they pass up bedlam for a beach and get trashed on social media. It's bedlam.
If OK State loses and NC State wins I would bet on Raleigh myself. ESPN loves them some Baker Mayfield though
The Miami is Bak narrative is soooo strong.
I disagree. I mostly see our fan base blowing up about it. Miami is undefeated at 7-0 and still only ranked 9th behind 5 (7-1) teams. There is every opportunity to hype Miami into outer space and I don't think we're seeing it.
ESPN would likely wait a week and go to Miami for the Miami-ND Gameday matchup if they beat VT
If ND beats NCSU, I could see ESPN planning to double dip on Da U, just like they did with Penn St last week and this week. 'Miami is BAKKKKKK!' with next week, 'OMFG CONVICTS VS CATHOLICS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11111111!!111' the next.
Its a shame we'd have to ruin their black panther party the first week.
But the difference is that both games are Miami home games... I know they have covered the same team in back to back weeks (including VT in '07), but I can't remember them ever staying at the same location for 2 straight weeks.
Forest Gump "ruin their black panther party" reference. I'll give you a leg here and a leg at the Duke game if you go Saturday.
I think they'll go to Bedlam or the Textile bowl if OSU loses this weekend. It's a bigger draw for them to go to Miami for ND than us. This game was very hyped last year when The U was 4-4 and Notre Dame was 3-5. Whether people like it or not football is 100% better when these teams are good and since it is not annual game its going to be treated as special. However they may not go if the good guys go 1-0 at Miami the week prior and when you look at the other games that weekend.
Radio guys are predicting a night game next week, already making plans for a beach day.
Plenty of time for their fans to not get to the stadium.
I'll gladly sacrifice Gameday if it means NC State wins the Atlantic
I somehow missed the Texas at TCU game being scheduled for ESPN at 7:15. So I don't even know why they are giving us a range for the primetime option.
The noon slots on ABC and ESPN are locked into Wisconsin at Indiana and Auburn at aTm. So, the Big Ten games listed in the first post are really "Noon FOX/3:30 ABC or ESPN".
That means we have three open timeslots: 3:30 ABC, 3:30 ESPN, and ABC primetime. The three games going into those slots are VT-Miami, Clemson-NC State, and either Ohio State at Iowa or Penn State at Michigan State (the other will be on Fox at noon).
The Pac-12 games will not affect us at all. The options for those three games should say "3:30 FOX/10 FS1/10:45 ESPN." (Obviously FOX won't do a nightcap, which means the two cable channels are getting the nightcap slots.)
I'll be at a wedding for this game D:
I have a Ducks Unlimited banquet that I helped schedule...calendars man...
I am the president of my local Delta Waterfowl...I scheduled our banquet the night of the Clemson game, got to watch like 5 snaps
Its always a joy to play Miami for my birthday weekend.
Happy Birthday 🎉🎂🎉
Me too, but I'll be flying back from field work in Sioux Falls, SD. Erp!
And, Happy Birthday to you as well.
Does anyone know what the Hokie/visitor sections are at Hard Rock? Will be in Orlando with the fam and am considering renting a car to make the trip down.
There will be plenty of empty seats to choose from.
All of them.
You may already know this, but just in case you're not keen on Florida geography... the drive from Orlando to Miami isn't a quick trip by any means, it's a 3 hour trip one-way.
I have family in Miami, and every time we make the drive I get excited for a little bit once you cross from Georgia into Florida... only to realize there's more than 5 hours to go. Ugh.
yeah, i'm aware. planning on getting a hotel ~1 hour north of FLL area if it ends up being a night game. Might try to do the single day round trip if it's 3:30.
It's kind of like Scott Stadium... half full and still mostly visiting fans anyways.
Really need this to be an afternoon game. GF is running the NYC marathon on that Sunday, so we can't be out late.
You didn't say you were running....
Yeah meet her at the finish line and give her some of the water you're nursing your hangover with.
LOL - as someone who did not attend VT, she has embraced my obsession with this school as much as one can. We have season tickets & she's the primary driver when we drive from DC to Blacksburg (while I usually nap).
I better be there for the entire race.
I will be wearing this shirt, though.

That right there is Grade A.
not to mention she's our good luck charm when she runs
Haha, that streak was broken back in 2015. Now I need to compute the overall record:
2014
2015
2016
2017
Overall record: 10-3
There was some serious soul searching around the Turkey Trot in 2015...
I don't know if you guys saw but Bedlam is 4:00 on FS1. That makes it much less likely that Gameday will be there.
WVU/TCU was a 3:30 FS1 game. Penn State/Ohio State is a 3:30 game on FOX. Who knows where or if the Villanova/JMU was broadcast.
That's three out of the four weeks since they were in Blacksburg.
They will be at Bedlam next week. They are hoping for that ND-UBak GameDay. If we win they maybe they go to UGA-Auburn
Wyatt is a terrifying human being. Legit looks like a professional wrestler in this video.
I was thinking the same damn thing
"Duke's going to win games...
... BUT NOT TODAY!"
8 pm prime time baby! Time to show out on national TV against a top ranked opponent who most casual fans know the name of.
Dinner is served. Hope you like juicy, plump ibis that has been fattened up nicely over the past 2 months.
Ibis... That's some kind of duck, right?
The drowned kind.
What is dead may never die?
When do they announce the College GameDay location for next week?
There's really no set time, but since they didn't say anything last night, it should be sometime today.
The best game is probably OSU/OU but it's not a compelling story. Does most of the country really care who wins that game?
wSU blew their chance with a loss to RichRod.
I would be surprised if they don't want Miami Iz Bak narrative for Gameday.
Does this automatically mean Gameday or no? I am of the impression primetime ABC means Gameday.
Weren't they at OSU yesterday? That was a fox game at 330.
Yep, you're right.
Here are the last four GameDay locations:
October 7: #23 West Virginia at #8 TCU in Fort Worth, Texas, TCU 31–24
October 14: #11 (FCS) Villanova at #1 (FCS) James Madison in Harrisonburg, Virginia, James Madison 30–8
October 21: #19 Michigan at #2 Penn State in University Park, Pennsylvania, Penn State 42–13
October 28: #2 Penn State at #6 Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, Ohio State 39–38
Here are the last four Saturday Night Football games:
October 7: Michigan State 14 -- #7 Michigan 10
October 14: Utah 27 -- #13 USC 28
October 21: #19 Michigan 13 --#2 Penn State 42
October 28: Georgia Tech 10 -- #7 Clemson 24
I guess we were just good enough to get primetime and gameday together when we played Clemson.
There weren't as many compelling matchups that day. And during September, the only time GameDay and SNF weren't the same was the Times Square experiment.
Next Saturday is shaping up to be the biggest day of the season so far, so lots of options all around.
Just announced GameDay is going to Bedlam.
Predictable
Geez, I can't stand Booger McFarland. First, his name is Booger. Second, he is on ESPN just talking about Miami going straight to face Clemson in the ACCCG. Not even a mention of the game next weekend. Trying to also justify putting the whole SEC in the playoff. Just awful.
Trying to justify 2 sec teams and ND...
That would lead to a 4 team playoff with only 2 conference champions and only 2 of the 5 power conferences represented. Pissing off more than half of the conference reps in a room is not the best way to endure long sustainability of the playoff as is.
I mean, one can reasonably argue that Bama, UGA and ND are the three best teams in the country right now.
Right now, yes. But I'm still in the camp that conference championships mean something. I don't want to see a potential Bama-UGA rematch in the playoff if we saw that result on the field already. If 3 of the 5 P5 champs were left out of the playoff, the outcry would be insane. I think it's inevitable we move to 8 eventually.
I'll withhold judgement on a rematch until after they play once
Yes but Bama and UGA will get a chance to have their playoff game against each other.
Why should they get 2?
The funny thing if all 3 teams win out from here, and the the Tide actually lose the SECCG, I think one could make a fairly good argument that ND has a much better schedule than Bama.
I mean, I get it from an entertainment perspective, we don't *want* to see the same game twice in three weeks, but the CFB shouldn't be picking the best match ups, they should picking the most deserving teams. If UGA's only loss is a close game to Bama, with wins over a 1 loss ND, a decent Auburn, and an otherwise average P5 schedule, I don't know how you can say they are not deserving.
Hypothetical - say VT finished the season 13-0, and WVU was 12-1, the lone loss coming from VT, and WVU appeared to be the best 1 loss team (no other undefeated teams). Should WVU be left out of the playoff just because they already played us? I think not.
100% agree
Difference with WVU is that they would be conference champs.
This. I get the point bar1990 was making, but in his hypothetical scenario, we are talking about a 1 loss conference champion making it. That's fine by me. In UGAs case, that would not be true. Oh so the best team in college football is in your conference? Too bad so sad. I guess that means YOU aren't the best team in college football.
Personally I feel if you don't win your conference, you should not be playing for a national championship. Obviously, MLB and NFL are examples where not winning your division can still lead to you having a chance to win it all, but you gotta win that NFC/AFC champ game or the pennant. March Madness our different but no one disputes NCAAB champs because you in effect have to beat all challengers or beat the other teams that did to cut the nets down.
If you are not and conference champ, you should have NO chance at the title, period.
Is there any line here? Does a 2 or 3 loss conference champ get in over a 1 loss conference runner up?
No 1-loss runners' up are the reason to have an 8 or 16 team playoff.
Last night Booger said something about Miami's dudes again and that they were "putting it on" UNC. They won by 5...
The horse shoe falls out of Miami's ass next Saturday.
The DL is playing great right now and I think we will stop the run, we will force their inexperienced QB into some mistakes, and our secondary will pick him off.
Our special teams have been great (besides Slye) with punting, kickoffs, and returns.
The offense MUST start well and hopefully they'll get it going.
I like the matchup and I think we win by 10!
Let's Go!!
I got Tech winning by 24
If I'm not mistaken, this will be the best defense we face all season. If the offense struggles out of the gate like they have all season, it might be a much longer night than any of us anticipate.
You'd rate Miami's D better than Clemson's? I just hope Fuente and Cornelsen add some wrinkles to the offensive plays than the tentative O we showed against Clemson
I'm expecting us to win by 2 touchdowns.
Let's see if I can find out where the other games ended up, since ESPN hasn't updated their master schedule yet.
Clemson at NC State - 3:30 ABC (confirmed by NC State twitter)
Penn State at Michigan State – Noon FOX (confirmed by MSU twitter)
Ohio State at Iowa – 3:30 ESPN (confirmed by Fox's master schedule)
The Pac-12 is still sleeping, and hasn't announced game times yet.
These primetime games have to be a good thing for Recruiting.
I think my favorite part is that this means we get Herbstreit and Fowler on commentary. Additionally Miami will more than likely be breaking out their all black "Miami Nights" unis, time to go all white (something something Good Guys wear white).
I say we go storm trooper
Dilly Dilly, give me the belk bowl helmet (can also be sold on orange effect helmet from this year or the tri color maybe), white jersey, and white bottoms.
Agree...except for the tri color. I do not like that helmet.
Yeah that'd be a low third, personal preference I don't hate it but it's not my favorite either. I think it should be belk bowl helmet and all white.
I'd absolutely love a white helmet with a black VT.
I love when teams wear specialty unis thinking they look all good and fresh and they lose! Unis look good, play looks awful!
Uh, we kind of have a history of doing this....
Yeah and he loves it!
Any idea when the GT kickoff time will be announced?
As always, either the Monday two weeks prior, or the Monday prior if put on a six day hold.
Aren't they only allowed to excercise their six day hold twice (maybe its 3) times? I know there's a limit but it's only two or three.
I've seen mention that ESPN might even have 4 six day options. But I'm not sure how they break down. Is it per school? Or is it broken down by only four weeks of the year they can have a hold?
I don't think there's much reason to put a hold on the 11/11 games, though. Regardless of next week's outcomes, Miami will be playing Notre Dame, which will get placed in a time slot on its own merits. Clemson and NC State will be playing FSU and BC respectively, and neither of those is in the running for the top time slots.
No idea. I know that they like to save them for the last two weeks so they can flex those big final matchups around. So I doubt they take it for next weekend.
Wow, Miami barely beats 1-7 UNC and moves up two spots to 6th in the Coaches Poll this week. Meanwhile we don't move. Bakness is running rampant.
Honestly pretty happy with this. The further they go up now, the further we go up if we beat them.
They did fall to #9 in the AP...
Coaches poll
Most egregious poll this week was the AP having Wisconsin at 4. Haven't played a ranked team all year and its entirely possible they won't play one all season unless Michigan sneaks back into the poll by the time they play.
They'll have to play Ohio St or maybe Penn St for the B1G title. That should take care of itself
Yeah, but they dropped in the AP...and I imagine the results will be similar in the CFB rankings that come out on Tuesdday.
#2 and #4 lost and rightfully dropped behind Miami for the time being. Not really that crazy of a result for now
Unless you actually watched Miami's games or even checked the box score or hell, just checked the scores. Then you would have to question if they should be ahead of UCF (similar schedules, but UCF is winning convincingly).
"But they are bak!!!"
An undefeated Miami team at this point in the season (it's a unicorn the last decade) is going to get the ranking. Better for us when we bury them next week
"Miami Nights" uniforms confirmed for da U is bak team.

All white everything for VT? #GoodGuysWearWhite
Man weird if someone mentioned this above ahha...Nonetheless a leg for you sir in agreement and for your genius...
via GIPHY
I thought I saw it somewhere but was too lazy to find it.
Good guys wear white and think alike.

Excellent uniform choice. This will mask the grass stains very well when they are introduced to our 635 pound two headed monster on the DL.
