So I'm in a bit of a rush so ill keep this brief. It's going to be super windy, pretty damn cold, and rainy saturday evening. The front should begin pushing through around two, you'll start to see some scattered showers and see some winds picking up temperatures will plummet that evening into the high 30s and the precipitation will pickup during game time. It's going to be pretty miserable weather wise so dress warm if you're travelling!!!!! From the start to the end of the game I think you could see as much as a quarter of an inch of rain fall in the area

Sounds like what we're getting here, in South Dakota. It was 80 f'in degrees yesterday..today? Wind advisory (gusts up to 55), cold (feels like 17) and scattered snow showers. Miserable.

Quarter inch of rain and wind gusts of only 10 mph is actually a lot better than I have been bracing for all week. We've been really fortunate to have pretty spectacular weather for every game so far this season, but really this isn't that bad. Obviously far better than the wind/rain at UNC last year and much better than the wind at Notre Dame. Unless the wind becomes sustained or more rain comes in, the wind and rain won't have a significant impact on how either team plays; just may lead to a few more drops or slips. The worst part will be the temp combined with being wet, but with something warm and a raincoat, it will be fine.

yeah UNC I believe we had a few inches of rain during the game... that game was nuts.
Am I right in thinking that 0.25" of rain over the course of 3-4 hours would be more than a drizzle but not heavy either- more like a moderate rain?
yeah itll be much more than a drizzle itll just be a continuous moderate to heavy rain all game

The only issue is do we tailgate in the weather all day or barhop and just deal with it during the game.

Not to discount your info, and you very well may be correct, but I have been following both weather.com and wunderground this week and both have been/are reporting temps to be in the mid to low 50s, possibly upper 40s....? (rain is a given...)
How accurate can we assume these reports to be since these are a few of the mainstream weather outlets. Have you been seeing similar reports as well and how much weight can be put into those reports?
Are there more reputable/accurate weather sites that would outperform these sources that you would recommend?

The low that evening will indeed be in the high 30s, might creep into the 40s, as for the game itself it probably wont last till midnight (the low) so I would highly doubt itd reach that temperature. itll probably be closer to the mid 40s, I'm just stating the low for people who plan on staying out beyond the game. As far as mainstream weather reports forecasting in general is a really dicey situation, the difference of 5 km can be 5 degrees farenheit and our models just absolutely cannot grasp this resolution yet. People want things to be exact but do not understand scale at all when it comes to this, they want thing to be accurate down to "my back yard" which is impossible. I mean say you live on a 1 acre plot of land thats what 43000 square feet? The United States is 380 million square miles. thats hardly even a fraction of a percent. My point is that while there are multiple forecasts that differ by a couple of degrees, I wouldn't say ones terrible because of it or another ones great because of it, because down to this point its really difficult to forecast these minute differences down to a scale until observations start falling into place (the day of) and meso scale models (which model much smaller areas) can run. These mesoscale models are great for small scale stuff but terrible for large scale stuff, likewise they take a ton of computing power, so they're typically run for areas that we want to track where something dangerous might happen (IE tornado regions) or for research purposes.
TL: DR game time kickoff is probably gonna be in the mid 40s, expect it to cool down during the game and the rain to make it feel a lot colder, bundle up a lot. My go to for weather forecasts (should I not trust my own forecast) and the ones I always direct people towards is the national weather service. They're really good at what they do, plus theres an office right there in Blacksburg, VA. That being said their forecasts can be off a few degrees please dont discredit them, its impossible to be perfect on forecasting way to many downstream effects and things going on. What you should be concerned about is the trends of forecasts.
Also do not trust anyone that says they can accurately forecast more than a week out, or two weeks, or three months....theyre lying theres waaaay to much going on
