We could actually benefit from a later game on Saturday to help with the shortened week from a late game in Miami + travel and then travel to Atlanta. Not sure I want a night game, but 3:30 would be ideal.

does it make a difference what time we, ahem... "whoop dat ass"?
aside -as I'm going to the game (any TKPers meeting up?) I would hope a 3:30 so I can roll around downtown, maybe do the CFHOF and then the game then drive back to the Atlanta burbs to enjoy an evening of whatever chaos happened the rest of the day/that night...

The last time we played at GT on a Saturday was 2009, a 6 PM game. #4 VT vs. #19 GT. Actually, that's the only time we've played at GT on a Saturday as part of the ACC.

It's all because I said I didn't think we'd have to worry about a six day hold in the other thread. ND/Miami I figured would have appeal regardless of this week's game.
I think our game time is going depend heavily on if we win or lose this weekend. Win and we are in the driver's seat for the Coastal, which would probably put us at 3:30 or later. Lose and Miami pretty much seals the Coastal or could out right clinch it as noted elsewhere, in which case we probably drop to a nooner.

We already know that if Miami and GT win this weekend, Miami clinches the Coastal. If Miami wins, but UVA beats GT, then UVA is the only other Coastal team in contention.
If VT beats Miami, then everyone except UNCheat and Duke is still in contention. VT/GT won't be a straight up elimination or clinching game, but it will be a major piece of the Coastal puzzle if GT beats UVA this weekend.
So, if we want to have a nice cushion in the Coastal, we want UVA to beat GT. But if we want a better timeslot, we want GT to beat UVA.

I don't think UVA winning buys us any cushion. One of those 2 teams is still going to have 2 losses and since we haven't played either one they'll be the same level of threat to the Coastal.

Not gonna lie, but that GT game worries me more than the Miami game for some reason. I think that we'll have the better team on the field, but if this week's game turns into a grinder, I'd be very concerned about a hangover effect against GT's triple-option offense.

Did you watch the game? They looked as good as they ever have, and their QB looked like Bud kryptonite incarnate. They only lost because of repeated shots to their own foot. They're not a top 10 team or anything, but they're playing good football.

I've noticed that option QBs tend to have a real problem in the late 3rd and then 4th quarters when they've had the snot knocked out of them for the 40:00 minutes previous...
here's to such a scenario.

If we win vs Miami and then lose to GT our best shot at the coastal might be a 3-way tie, with Miami dropping a game to Pitt or UVA. But admittedly the 3-way tie breaker seems hard to predict at this point. Miami would be out based on division record. But the VT/GT tie breaker may come down to other games.
Best for us to just win out and not have to worry about it all.

In your scenario, the only 3 way tie at 6-2 would be VT/Miami/GT. Both of Miami's losses would be divisional, while VT and GT were handed a loss by Clemson. GT would win.
Best scenario for VT with a loss to GT is to have GT lose as many other games as possible.

Why does it matter? We find out a week before the game occurs.
Doesn't also mean that the game could be a big game (if VT wins this weekend)?
Well that's annoying.

I do not remember an @GT game ever not being a night game...granted they're usually almost always a Thursday nighter.
2015 at GT was a 7:30 kick off I believe for Franks final battle with GT.
Yeah, a Thursday night.
The last time we played at GT on a Saturday was 2009, a 6 PM game. #4 VT vs. #19 GT. Actually, that's the only time we've played at GT on a Saturday as part of the ACC.
Goddammit, that game sucked.
That was Tyrod doing everything he could to get it for the team, but he didn't have much help, especially from the refs.
Remember when the refs ROLLED THE BALL OVER during a measurement to give GT a first down?
Interesting observation. You piqued my interest so I looked it up:
2015: Thu 7:30 P.M.
2013: Thu 7:30 P.M.
2011: Thu 8 P.M.
2009: Sat 6 P.M.
2007: Thu 7:45 P.M.
2004: Thu 7:45 P.M.
There was a whole weird thing in 2005 and 2006 with two home games in a row.
Your memory is spot on. All GT games have been night games.
We played GT at Lane in 2014. It was a day game and they beat us by a field goal.
But we're only talking about the games at GT.
But, for the record, 4 of the games in Blacksburg have been 3:30 games, one nooner, one on Thursday night, and one on Monday night.
Ahh, my mistake. Sorry about that!
My post wasn't clear so I can understand where you are coming from.
Go to your room!
Edit: Both of you!
It's all because I said I didn't think we'd have to worry about a six day hold in the other thread. ND/Miami I figured would have appeal regardless of this week's game.
Oh good lord, the entire ACC and SEC and half of the Big 12 are TBA. There's no way to even guess the possible timeslots.
Does that make you a bit crazy?
UL Lafayette at Ole Miss β TBA
Wut
That's just so it doesn't accidentally take up a more important timeslot.
Network schedule maker this morning - Was that due today?!? 6 Day Holds for everyone
He was up watching the Dodgers Astros game.
VT has only had one game against a power 5 team have a daytime start
And this one might be a night game as well
The only thing we can say for certain is that it's not going to be a nooner on ESPNU (UConn/UCF) or primetime on ESPN2 (Purdue/NW).
There's only two games slotted for 3:30 on ABC/ESPN/ESPN2/ESPNU. Every other spot on the ESPN networks is open.
But it is possible the game is a nooner, 3:30, or a night start?
Trying to plan a trip down to the ATL that day. Didn't see the 6-day hold coming for this one.

Do you want UVA to go bowling? I'd rather them lose out and we deal with our own cushion.
I don't think UVA winning buys us any cushion. One of those 2 teams is still going to have 2 losses and since we haven't played either one they'll be the same level of threat to the Coastal.
But UVA and GT are not the same level of threat to VT.

Friendly reminder that GT lost to Tennessee this year.
Did you watch the game? They looked as good as they ever have, and their QB looked like Bud kryptonite incarnate. They only lost because of repeated shots to their own foot. They're not a top 10 team or anything, but they're playing good football.
So even in their best showing, they shot themselves in the foot? I am, as yet, unconcerned.
Riiiiight. It's completely impossible that GT would ever jump up and bite us. /s
If you're not concerned about the GT game...

The Duke game has eased some of my worries. If we're able to start fast like that again vs the bees, we should be fine.
Any game against a mobile QB scares me.. Seems as if we can't stop them half the time
I've noticed that option QBs tend to have a real problem in the late 3rd and then 4th quarters when they've had the snot knocked out of them for the 40:00 minutes previous...

I guess we just have to win the whole damn thing then...

I can say with complete confidence that the game will kick off sometime between noon and 8:30 PM on November 11 (barring any weather issues).
Wait, there's a game next week?
I thought we were focused solely on this week's one-game season. #1-0
/ssspeakthedamntruth
Ironic how we went from a bunch of nooner game seasons to having this season being mostly nighttime games. I really like the 330 time slot tbh.
Well, having the number in the W column be consistently bigger than the number in the L column helps too.
Oh, and having a little number to the left of our name on the scoreboard.
