What are we rooting in the rest of college football now?

I still believe that we can win out the regular season and get to 10 wins. I still think we have a shot at a good bowl that we can win, and get an 11th win. But now that the ACC championship and CFP are off the table, what do we want to see in the college football world as a whole?

I think that if we win out, there's still a shot at a New Year's Six bowl, but there's still a lot of dominoes that have to fall for that to happen. With the way the Big Ten and Big 12 like to cannibalize themselves, a two loss team can rise pretty quickly through the rankings. Also, it's possible that the number of "at large" spots for the NY6 will be greatly diminished, as we could have as many as three teams that would normally go to the Rose and Sugar Bowls get displaced by the semi-finals.

Looking to bowl revenue, I think it's in the ACC's best interest for Notre Dame to be in New Year's Six bowl, as long as an ACC team isn't the "next team up" that would have gotten in if ND wasn't there. That way, they don't take one of our bowl slots, and we can maximize bowl revenue for all of the other teams.

That leads to the question, do we want Notre Dame or Miami to win next week? ND getting a second loss could knock them out of the CFP race, but that could put them in the Orange Bowl spot, which means we don't get the Citrus Bowl from the Big Ten.

I believe the way to get the maximum bowl revenue for the conference would be to have the champ in the CFP (probably Clemson), the runner up in the Orange Bowl (probably Miami) vs. Big Ten, another team in a New Year's Six (probably VT), ND in the NY6, then take the Citrus, CWB, and then into tiers 1 and 2. If we can't fill all of our bottom bowls, it doesn't matter because we've made much more money from the NY6 and Citrus Bowl.

But not like Philly, with actually success.

All I am rooting for is for us to beat GT next week (and to continue to strive for Jersey's without shoulder stripes)!

I'll never root for Miami, and their fair weather bandwagon ass fans.

Whoa now, what's wrong with ass fans?

They smell like shit and have a tendency to disappear when the weather turns.

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Based on shots of the crowd, I'm sure there are a bunch of ass fans, cause the rest didn't meet expectations for a "beach" school...

NY6 Bowl has got to be a giant Longshot right now. I guess possible maybe, but we couldn't even wrap that up going to the ACC championship last year.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

True, but last year, all of the non-champion teams were handicapped. The Peach and Fiesta Bowl normally feature two at-large teams each, but hosted the semi-finals. That meant that the Orange, Rose, and Sugar Bowls were selecting replacement teams from their respective conferences. That left the Cotton Bowl as the only spot for at-large teams, and one of them had to be the G5 rep (Western Michigan).

I want it, but look who is ahead of us right now with the same record. Penn, OSU, probably a few others. Gonna be tough to sneak in to that.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

Hahaha if we end up in a NY6 bowl, Il'll be there an be happy to tell you about it.

Win out with a lopsided huge victory in Lane North vs. UVA.

Win the TaxSlayer Bowl in Jacksonville vs. a SEC team.

So far I've seen bowl projections all over the place some have us in CWIB, one has us in the peach against UCF, so it is too early to tell. As for rooting I feel like next week its Notre Dame, I know its an unpopular opinion here, but if they win out they are in the CFP. I will not cheer for Miami, but it helps to have them and Clemson win out, again minus the Notre Dame game. If I am correct it is overall conference finishing position that helps determine bowls. So we want NC St. to tank because it should give us the third spot in the ACC. Clemson playoff, Miami Orange, and us hopefully in the NY6 area.

...That's what Maryland does.

I don't give a damn what the fans think cause, quite frankly, I know what the fans want better than they do.

Yes and no.

Any shot at the NY6 is all down to committee rankings, and the conference record doesn't really matter there. Last year, VT and FSU both finished the regular season at 9-3, but VT was 6-2 in conference against FSU's 5-3. The committee still ranked FSU above us, even though we won our division.

When we get outside of the NY6, overall record is the starting point, but bowls can pick teams within a win of the next available team. So when the CWB goes to pick, if the top three teams available are 9-3, 8-4, and 7-5, then they can pick the 9-3 or 8-4 team, but they can't pick the 7-5 team.

Since we the tier 1 bowls work together, there's a lot of give and take, so it's a bit harder to predict exactly how the teams will get picked.

Thanks, that clears it up.

Rooting for Clemson and ND to win out, and for Bama and Georgia to meet undefeated in the SEC title game.

I want 2 SEC teams, ND and Clemson in the playoff with VT going to the Orange. I want the playoff to expand and this would go a long way to accomplish that goal.

"When I was growing up, Virginia Tech was a school that was kicking ass and taking names, and it's time we get back to that" - James Franklin

Yeah, I'm leaning towards chaos myself now too. I also think there's a very real possibility that there are only four 0 or 1 loss teams going into bowl season, and Alabama and Georgia will be two of them.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

Feels dirty to root for any of those 4, but I'll even go a step further and root for ND to blow out da U, next week. No hype in CFB is as bad as "da U is bak" hype, so I want to see it gone ASAP.

30 years after starting grad school at Virginia Tech, I finally defended my dissertation and earned my PhD.
Don't give up on your dreams.

Da "U" back?

This is going to be great for the ACC.

If you're like Alum07:
Alabama
Georgia
Close SEC title game
ND
Clemson
Oklahoma/TCU winner
Wisconsin
Washington
UCF
UVA over Miami
Pitt over Miami

Why?

Playoff expansion:
* Three undefeated teams, potentially two of which get left out (Wisconsin and UCF)
* Three Power Five conferences get left out between the ACC, Big XII, Pac 12 and B1G -- all of whom will either have a 1-loss champion OR an undefeated champion

Bowl picture
* Miami would finish with four losses to end the season. If we take care of business, we'd be ranked higher and going to the Orange Bowl

Bowl streaks
Clemson over FSU gives us the unofficial nation's longest bowl streak

Incidentally, I was looking at divisional scenarios for each conference to give everyone a conference-by-conference rooting interest and noticed that Rutgers can still win the B1G East.

I want to live in that timeline.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I'm pulling for VT to go 1-0 this week.

I think we saw from last night's games that there is some room for development. This team can still improve.

There are still some games to win, some recruits to recruit, and a bowl game to get invited to. I'd love to see VT get to 10 regular season wins.

I wanna see Auburn beat Bama and Georgia (x2).
I wanna see ND beat the absolute hell out of Miami, and then lose to Navy.
I wanna see Michigan State win the B1G East.
I wanna see Wisconsin lose to Iowa and get rolled in the B1G title game.
I wanna see Washington lose to Wazzu.
I wanna see TCU beat Oklahoma.
I wanna see South Carolina beat Clemson.

I wanna see some absolute chaos.

I like you just for that first line. Auburn becoming Chaos Incarnate would make my entire year.

I wanna see Miami win out
I wannt see UGA and Alabama go undefeated up to the SECCG
I want to see Wisconsin lose all their games
I want OSU to be a 2-loss conference champion of the Big Ten.
I want UGA to beat OSU and Miami to beat Alabama
And for Mark Richt to face his old team in the NC...and win

I'm a Miami fan, now. The only game I wanted to see them lose was VT, so now I'm a fan. I will really hate them if they play terribly now.

I'm rooting for chaos.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

I'd like for VT to make a NY6 bowl. There's still a chance. For everything else, chaos.

Hokies winning out and lots of upsets. I want chaos.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

CBS sports has us in the peach Bowl against ucf which is a selection committee bowl.

https://mweb.cbssports.com/ncaaf/bowls/predictions

This site normally give way too much credit to the big 10 and sec so I'm surprised they have Clemson in the playoffs, Miami in the orange bowl and us in the peach Bowl. Well at least things are still looking good.

I would say go 1-0 rest of the way, let the big 10 create chaos, hope for only a 2 horse race in the big 12

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

Top 2 teams in Big 12 have 1 loss. That means that their 2nd best team will have at least 2 losses, thanks to the championship game.

We are rooting for 1-0.

I want to see the Chiefs and the Eggles in the Super Bowl. I'd love to see Coach Reid light up Philly.

Leonard. Duh.

As a philly fan I'd be okay with that. My happiness for Andy Reid would be a nice consolation prize if we lost Almost the best case as far as opponent. Only team better would be the bills.

Here lies It's a Stroman Jersey I Swear, surpassed in life by no one because he intercepted it.

Hella chaos and UCF in the playoff

Gotta cheer for whichever ACC team makes the playoffs (if one does). That includes Miami. The ACC having a strong reputation is great for Virginia Tech.

I won't do that SEC thing and cheer for everyone but I do would not mind if any ACC teams make it far to get us more monies...

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:
“I served in the United States Navy"

Pain and suffering. 3 or 4 losses for all. Mass panic and casualties!

I want to see:

- Consistency from ACC officials. Watch one game and things are called correctly. Watch another game the same day, and they don't seem to know what they are doing. It's like Ron Cherry is leading quality control for the ACC officiating. Seriously, how far out of bounds does a guy have to be to get a late hit call?

- Us to go 1-0 the next three weeks.

- Miami get their asses handed to them by ND. And yes, ND is an ACC team, even if they have some inbred relationship in football with the inbreds running the ACC.

- Miami to get their asses handed to them by Clemson.

- Targeting to be called correctly. (Yep, I'm looking at you ACC officials.)

- Georgia to win the SEC and Nick Saban to lose his shit.

- Another Pat Nardouchie melt down.

- Our equipment guys to get better gloves for our freshman receivers, because the ones they are using now don't seem to help them hold on to balls that hit them right in the friggin' hands.

- Wheels Up to take the guest picker to the wrong school.

- No shoulder stripes. Not even for "throwbacks".

- Ohio State to get into trouble. Because who doesn't like a good Urban Meyer "heart problems" excuse.

- Us to play in a high level bowl, but not necessarily a NY6 bowl, against an SEC or B1G team. And beat the living horseshit out of them.

We don't deserve a NY6 bowl. We shat the bed against 2 top-10 teams and have only beaten one team who's just outside the top 25. I'm not sure why the bowl committee would want us against a top 15 at this point unless we show some real moxy in the next few games....
