Virginia Tech dropped from #13 to #17 in the Associated Press Week 11 Poll. The top four spots this week belong to Alabama, Georgia, Notre Dame, and Clemson in that order. Miami moved up to #7 while Ohio State dropped from #3 to #11 and Penn State dropped from #7 to #16.
The USA Today Coaches' Poll also has Virginia Tech at #17.

Non sequiter, but I bet NCSU wins out and finishes ranked about 15th. That's the second best team in the ACC in my mind.
I don't think NC State is that great to be honest. They lost to USCe and got smacked by Notre Dame last week. Them playing a close game with Clemson is more indicative of Clemson's less than stellar pass defense that Syracuse exposed a few weeks ago. I actually think overall this is a pretty huge downgrade across the ACC in quality compared to last year. I think every team in the ACC is worse than last year except NC State, Wake, and BC. And Wake and BC just don't have the talent to threaten the really good teams. I think Clemson's schedule has been heavily overrated and looks weaker with each passing week, to be quite frank. I think this is a huge down year in the ACC.
You could argue Miami is better this year (than last), but honestly outside of last night, I don't see it. They were pretty good last year, we were just better. Last year they lost to a much better FSU team and I don't remember who else.
Ehhh I've seen NC State firsthand multiple times, including the Clemson game, and they are legit. Finley hadn't thrown a pick all year until Notre Dame, and their best RB (Hines) was banged up and wasn't fully utilized vs Clemson. Even with mistakes they still had a solid chance at tying it up with what is no doubt a top 4 team in the country on the last play. State would crush Miami.
I too think that they'll win out based on their remaining schedule, but do you think they're better than Miami? I think Miami is a pretty solid #2 in the ACC in my opinion.
Yeah, I think they are better than Miami. I'm not sure I think Miami is better than VT. We just picked a bad night to play a bad game.
And I think ND is fantastic, they will beat Miami by double figures.
I hope they do, but I think they're going to have a tough time running it against Miami. I think they win, but not by double digits.
I think we want Miami to go undefeated at this point including beating Clemson. We need to win out and if we do, we're gonna get a top 15, that's all we can ask for at this point. Might end up in the camping world Bowl, not too bad. We need more depth on offense and definitely need more playmakers, still need better o-lineman
Errr. I read it a few times and assume you meant Clemson in that second Miami. And I just want to win out ourselves at this point.
EDIT- okay I figured cause you had it fixed before I was done typing
where the heck is lot 18?
It's the grass lot by the duck pond. It has, over time, become the unofficial TKP tailgate lot and where we host the Annual Charity tailgate. I have met alot of good people there.
I tried to make it for the Clemson game and I wandered around for hours looking for it. Didn't find it until most everyone was gone and they were packing up. I was really looking forward to meeting some of y'all too. That said, it's my fault for not taking more initiative in finding out where it was beforehand. Almost nobody I asked had any idea where Lot 18 was.
It feels hidden but once you know where it is, it is easy enough. It also looks like it is incredibly far away from the stadium, but aside from the hill the walk isn't that bad. I know we only have one game left, but we are there in force for every game so feel free to come by anytime. We occupy the whole guard rail along Duck Pond Dr. Usually, unless I am slacking there will be a TKP flag up.
No
Miami going undefeated at this point doesn't help us at all. We're not playing to get into the playoffs, and Miami is mostly locked into going to the acccg. I'd be ok with and will be rooting for them to lose, and lose big.
My dream scenario is Miami is crushed this week, but Notre Dame is left out of the playoffs despite being ranked in the top 4ish because "they didn't win a conference" which might finally force them to join one. This isn't the 50s anymore, they aren't special and need to stop being treated with kids gloves (in the bcs system there was a specific clause just for Notre Dame which I always found annoying)
A strong Miami would be nice because we don't compete with them for recruits nearly as much as we do with Clemson and FSU. Also helps our strength of schedule every year
In the AP poll, Jeff Miller voted to move us up to 12th. Bless him.
He must have missed the game.
:-)
What game?
Take your dang L. E. G.
If we go back in time 3 seasons, I would strangle someone if they told me we'd be a top twenty team and have an ACCCG berth under our belt in our new coach's second year. I wouldn't take it serious and definitely would not take it as humor. Now that dust has settled and my blind frustration has subsided from last night's game, I see the pretty bang up job Fuente has done with room to improve and the willpower to do it.
We win out and get a decent bowl? Can't really complain here.
I'm still confused about the double official twitter accounts. They need to have some competition or vote to eliminate the loser.
A kid had started the HokiesFB account, and took artistic liberties with it. He claimed to be an official Tech twitter account. VT was notified, and bought out the account, shut it down, and relaunched it as official VT account.
Interesting. I've always wondered. For what it's worth, HokiesFB has much better tweets information-wise and graphically than VTFootball IMO.
When I got on Twitter during #GameDayforFrank, I followed @BeamerBall. That account changed its name shortly thereafter, and I think it became @HokiesFB.
I hope Clemson hangs 80 on Miami when they (presumably) play in the ACCCG. I derived a great deal of satisfaction from Miami having never won the Coastal.
Agreed. Living just 90 minutes from Miami, I do not want them to be back. It makes life an actual hell, especially when I'm wearing M&O (most days).
I hope ND takes them out back the woodshed, and then Clemson does the same in the ACCCG (face it, they're going to win the coastal this year unfortunately, but 1 division title doesn't equate to bak..). And then whoever they get in a bowl does it even worse.
Catholics gonna wax the Convicts
Lesser of two evils.
This is still entirely too high IMO. We're a good football team but to me the 23 range makes more sense at this point.
I was poking around some bowl projections, and found this:
Do you even football, bro? A rematch of the opening weekend? Fans already spent their money watching this one (closer to home) almost four months prior.
David Hale is a bit more reasonable:
I love that Gator Bowl vs. USCe prediction.
I don't think our offense has played well enough to deserve a high ranking. Our defense is great, but we rely too much on scoring low when we can.
I hope Miami goes undefeated and is actually back.
It'd be nice to have a Real McCoy rival again. Nowadays we just have landmines of jerks in Pittsburgh and Atlanta.
We made #17 on the CFP, sounds about right to me.

With some huge games this weekend. Just gotta keep winning,
You mean "gotta get back to winning"
