WR Kalil Pimpleton to transfer from VT

Just saw this link on Bitter's twitter account. Shocking.

1. The timing is really strange.
2. Very disappointed Hooker-Pimp touchdown passes will never happen.

Apparently his hands left a lot to be desired for a slot receiver which makes sense considering he played quarterback in high school. Hope Fuente learns a lesson that Beamer and Stinespring never could that you better be sure a converted wide receiver can be a wide receiver.

Amen.. or actually recruit guys that played WR in high school- Like Isiah Ford and Cam Phillips. Both were 3 star/borderline 4 star players IIRC.

You're exactly right, but since they already knew the ins and outs of route running and proper techniques for catching the football, they were able to go right ahead and learn the offense. I'll take the borderline 3-4 star WR over the 4-star athlete with no receiver experience 9 out of 10 times, that one time being a guy with freakish athleticism like Bucky Hodges.

Hope he finds a landing spot where he can show off those skills in space.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Lots of hot takes on twitter after this announcement.

There are some people out there who make me wonder how they even enjoy being a fan of anything.

This comment should go plaid by the end of the day.

(Also can apply to some people who are not "out there")

Leonard. Duh.

I really thought Pimpleton would be explosive here. Honestly thought we'd be seeing Savoy levels of production from Pimp this season. Obviously, there's a reason he hasn't seen much of the field. Wish him well in his next adventure.

Always choose joy.

He must not like the offensive play calling either...

I loved his potential watching his film. In all honesty, watching him during the spring game was very underwhelming. I didn't see that "make them miss in a phonebooth" quickness that it looked like he had one film. With Savoy having such a big impact right off the bat and a bunch of WRs coming in next year, it would be tough to get playing time. It didn't work out. Props to the kid to make the decision quickly so both he and the team could move forward. I hope he has success wherever he lands.

Five star get after it 100 percent Juice Key-Playing. MAN

Hope it works out for him.

Savoy will be great in the slot with Grimsley, Ellis, etc.

Add Kumah, Patterson, Farley, Hazleton, Turner, and Simmons and we have a lot of talent at WR

Right now we have Savoy..and a lot of "names" at WR. Let's be honest here. Fuente and Corn know offense. This is not Mike O Cain and Stiney. Fuente can coach up a WR if need be. Grimsley (granted young) Kumah, Patterson have not shown anything beyond Kumah being an OK possession guy- those 3 have "JAG" written all over them. WR is not OL- you can have an impact right away, you can make plays as a freshman if you are really good. If Grimsley was an Isiah Ford, you would have seen flashes by now. I hear great things about hazelton and Farley... but let's not get ahead of ourselves. We need some big time players to emerge at WR to make this offense work.

Agreed. In the meantime our scholarship numbers just got easier by 1. Has anyone crunched the numbers to see how many more we are expecting? Right now VT has 14 seniors listed. I'm not sure if Taylor is on scholarship or not. Ill also assume we are already somewhere around 3 short (one of which being Pimp) which probably means there are at least 7 more non-seniors who won't be there in June.

Opens up a roster spot for another blue-chipper.

Seriously, Florida and Tennessee must have some nervous recruits about now.

I'd have been nervous looking there in the first place if I played offense.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Fans saying "screw this kid" or "I hope he never makes it to the nfl" or "no loyalty" make me sick. I'm just waiting for that kind of talk from our fans to come back and haunt us one day. People are pathetic about kids doing what is best for them. They have to live their lives and with their choices and making fans happy won't get them far in life anyways.

FIRST DOWN, HOKIES!

Twitter is a cesspool. Always has been, always will. Also, anyone who's read the comments on Andy Bitter's blog before he disabled them also knows that we have some really pieces of work on the peripheral of our fan base.

Yeah, that doesn't show our fanbase in the best light.

We need to wish him the best of luck, and move on.

All schools have moron fans. Look at PSU after Rivers flipped. Look at SEC schools.

Especially when he's not getting playing time. I mean I really don't worry too much when someone who isn't seeing the field decides to transfer to get playing time. Obviously he sees that it's going to be a struggle for him in the coming years otherwise I'm sure he would stay. The only time I get worried with a transfer is if someone who is starting and a big contributor decides to transfer.

Good luck to him. No reason for him to stick around and ride the pine his whole career if he thinks he can see the field somewhere else.

Dang I guess the honeymood really is over

The further we get from that game, the better the mood will be.

Don't want to tear Pimp down on his way out the door. I had also heard that the hands weren't great - but when CJ went down and Cam was nicked up and we still didn't see him getting run, you had to start to wonder where exactly he was gonna contribute. You start counting receivers present and future and... yeah. He can really only play in the slot, and we have Savoy & CJ, with Ellis on the way. I'm sure he wants to do more than return punts, which was what I was hoping he'd do next year post-Stro. (Still not clear why they didn't redshirt him and then 'burn when needed' like with DeIlluis (sp?) - he's touched the ball exactly once all season.)

I agree that the timing is weird, but I have a theory: Pimp stuck around through GT week in order to help prep the defense (he was the scout team's "Marshall"). Anyone else think he's seen the writing on the wall for awhile and was just like "I'm gonna ball out in practice this week, and then shut it down and figure out what's next"? Maybe he consulted the coaching staff? Maybe not? I know it's kind of dramatic (and incredibly selfless of Pimp), but how else do you explain the announcement the day after GT? He doesn't seem pissed off or fed up - his Twitter bio and photos are all still VT 💯... Anyway, just a theory. Who knows. Could be any number of things, or any combination.

Pimp, I hope you ball out at some other school that we never have to play. Thanks for all you did as a Hokie. Farewell and adieu, you son of Muskegon...

the numbers don’t lie and they spell disaster

Taking into account Division I transfer rules, that could mean Florida State.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Quick guy, but small..like JC Coleman- if you just touched him, he went down. Pimp's plays were basically the Savoy package, and Savoy is bigger and better at this stage. Sorry for the kid, but Savoy his his same age, so playing time is going to be an issue. I hope he lands somewhere good.

I have decided this is true. If this is wrong, please do not tell me.

Transfers happen, the numbers work out. Like Joe said, the timing is so shocking. The mood from the GT game is still singeing for some of us. Sad to hear that there have been some nasty, mean comments out there about the kid and his decision. Truly hope he finds a school/coach/team where he can continue his career and education.

Damn. Hate to see him go but definitely hope he finds a place to shine and reach his full potential.

Maybe the timing means he's getting a jump for a better place before the rest of the transfer carousel gears up for the offseason.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

As a Michigander I was super hyped about signing him, sad to see but hoping it works out wherever he goes. Could see him tearing it up in the MAC.

Ahhh No more Pimpleton minute on Bitter's podcast....

On the other hand, we do have Farley, Hazleton, Injury free CJ Caroll, Savoy, Patterson, 4-star Tre Turner, Grimsley, Maybe Denmark makes a "Mark", Cunningham from the TE position, and some catches out of the backfield.
I'm counting about 8 guys plus TE & RBs so I think we have so personnel to start with and perhaps some one else will break out

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

Just looking at the roster, this probably won't be the last WR to transfer over the next couple years. We have like 17 on the roster (didn't take the time to actually count) and most are Freshman. Fuente had a dire need last year and loaded up with anyone who showed potential. Now that he's more selective I think we'll see talent like tre turner coming in and a lot of the guys who are freshmen this year will transfer out as they get buried on the depth chart. I hate to see things not work out for good kids who want to be Hokies, but at the same time that's life. Really hope he goes somewhere that has a greater need and has success.

Dang. Hate to see a kid who recruited well for VT. You could tell he loved VT but saw the writing on the wall. Whish him the best and much success where he lands.

KP was my favorite recruit of this class... I have the sads now.

It is a natural gift I posess to create friction in sensitive situations.

Hope he does well there. Picking a school at 18 is hard enough but having all of the pressure of being a D-I athlete must only add to it. Best of luck.
