Unranked in both AP & Coaches' Polls

Top team in "Others Receiving Votes" in both polls. This is the first time they've been unranked since Week 13 of last year.

Good. Did we look like one of the best 25 football programs in the country yesterday? Absolutely not.

Maybe this is just unwarranted optimism, but I think this disappointment might light a fire under their asses and they'll crush Pitt and Mr. Jefferson's team. Coaching staff should be out for blood to make up for their disastrous performance the past two weeks.

I would root for the Russians before I would root for Virginia.

Agreed. But what we're looking to do is move BEYOND needing a loss to light the fire beneath their collective asses. We had to endure that shit during the entire Beamer era. What we want is to take care of shit up front.

No disrespect to you (I also used to subscribe to this thought process), but I don't buy the whole "this may a light a fire under their asses" anymore. I've seen too many times where you think a tough loss (or two, or three) will motivate a team, but unless you make the appropriate changes schematically, you'll just continue to falter from week to week. However, I really think we can make those appropriate changes and end the season on a high note.

Definitely a bummer to slip out of the polls. But if we win out, including the bowl, we'll finished ranked. Not at all where we want to be, but probably where we should be.

What sucks even more is beat GT and it might have been a top 15/16 ranking win out and it's top 10-12.

I think we need a little perspective here. If we win our last 2, we'll finish ranked low 20s, which is exactly where we were preseason before WVU.

If you had told me in 2015 after Beamers last bowl game that we would go 9-3 and finish ranked in 2017, I would have happily taken that. Our expectations got a little high when we were winning early this year and because of last years success, but with the right perspective we're ahead of where we thought we'd be a couple years ago.

What painful about this loss is we had so many opportunities to win and didn't. That sucks. But last years team, even with Isiah Bucky Jerod Sam etc, also lost a couple games they shoulda won.

In the grand scheme, this years team will probably finish with the same 9-3 regular season record as last years team, only with less talent and a tougher schedule (Clemson and good Miami vs Syracuse and bad Miami).

...and those reasons (talent lost from last year, harder schedule) are why we were ranked 24 pres season and not ranked 10. It's where we thought we'd be. It's still progress under Fuente, even without being overnight ACC champions. It'll take time to catch Clemson and now Miami, but no doubt there is improvement over the last 2 years.

...sorry this might be the wrong thread probably more appropriate in the post game vent threads

He's referencing rankings in here lmao. This is a perfectly reasonable thing to say. In fact, if all discussions had to stay on topic than over 50% of TKPs content would be inappropriate.

Fuck Matt Ryan, right?

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Well that's not a good example since it's always appropriate.

Bingo. Everybody, including your's truly, got caught up in the chances at the CFP if we could've done something against Miami. I'm definitely not happy about the last two weeks, but considering where we were two years ago to now, I'll take it and gladly.

Amateur superstar and idiot extraordinaire.

Bright side: now Pete Moris will stop tweeting out "Best N-loss team in the country!" with some absurd graphic glorifying how we're better than UCF.

It was fun while it lasted

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

You know...we were ranked #17 last week. And that's cursed.

We put the K in Kwality

Good. For some reason VT plays better when we're not in the spotlight.

Something that needs to be changed for this program.

I mean I'd say we were in the spotlight for WVU and OSU, I dont think thats the issue. I think the problem is this is a flawed team and we've finally been exposed by some pretty good teams and we panicked in the GT game. We've been harping it all season, we have had no consistent running game, and no deep threat. Those flaws have been figured out, and we just played some teams that couldn't make us pay for it earlier this season. It just goes to show SOS can really make an average team look better than average. We knew there would be growing pains, so why are we really this surprised? Disappointed, sure, but shocked? not me

Taylor, looking desperately throws it deep..HAS A MAN OPEN DANNY COALE WITH A CATCH ALL THE WAY DOWN TO THE FIVE!!!!....hes still open

I'm just glad we don't have a toaster in our locker room.

Not the bagman VT deserves, but the bagman VT needs right now.

Out of the top-25 is probably a little unfair, but polls have a huge recency bias and losing two in a row in the fashion we did means it's understandable.

I remember a season in which we lost three in a row and remained ranked. 2002, I think.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.
