The three-star recruit was also considering NC State and Maryland before removing them from consideration over the past few weeks. He holds 16 scholarship offers.

In September of 2016, the first Virginia Tech crystal ball prediction was input for Artis and the predictions have stayed at 100-percent Virginia Tech since then, including a prediction from 247Sports' Director of Recruiting Steve Wiltfong.

According to 247Sports, Artis is a four-star linebacker and is the No. 212 overall prospect in the nation. The industry generated 247Sports Composite, Artis is listed as a three-star recruit and is the No. 13 player in Virginia for the 2018 recruiting cycle.

He's a 3-star by the 247Sports Composite. 247Sports and ESPN both have him as a 4-star.

presumably, but it's also possible that the way the various ratings combine, it puts more guys ahead of him. The ratings aren't hard and fast, but the numbers of each level are, I believe. For instance, 24/7 wants to only have 32 five stars (to correspond with 32 1st round draft picks).

247sports -91, 4*. 5th in VA
Rivals- 5.5RR, 3*. 22nd in VA
Espn - 80grade, 4*, 8th in VA
And Scout.com just took me to his 247 page

Essentially to go from ESPN to 247 ratings just add 10

22nd on Rivals is ridiculous considering how weak Va is this year. There are 3-4 players Rivals has ahead of Artis who I do not know.

They have Akeem Smith 13th. He has offers from DelSt, Howard, Kent St, Fla Atl, Morgan set and Wofford.

Artis has 20 p5 offers. Twenty.

Rivals is dead to me.

LB position starting to look pretty good! The way Tech is landing recruits, is there a current or incoming LB that could move up front to DE to help shore the position up?

We've got some pretty good DE depth. Proctor, Garbutt, Belmar, Debose all FR or R-FR that have bright futures.

Now that I see the names I forgot how many youngins are waiting in the wings. So recapping our defensive needs, looking like last two positions to shore up are DT and CB. Offensively it is really only down to RB, OG, and OT. I think our TE, QB, and WR positions look like there are plenty of good options over the next 2-3 years.

I mean.. if anything I feel like we're just finally recruiting good linebacker depth for the first time in a while. We're pretty young this year behind Motu and Edmunds, an injury there would be pretty bad. Hopefully that's changing with the way we're recruiting now.
