My first one: Miami vs. Pitt doesn't look like it will be a high-scoring affair.

...I can't believe this season is almost over :(

sitting here watching pitt move the ball on Miami...

I can't tell you how badly I want Pitt to upset Miami. ESPN has gotten incredibly annoying with the "turn over chain porn."

Turnover chain porn?

How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Jet Sweep

Salivacious.

Once again, Miami struggling in the first half.

I STILL can't pull for Pitt, though.

I can. I have no problem with that. The turn over chain. The sloppy play. The arrogance. I'm all about a gigantic slice of post Thanksgiving humble pie served with a stomach turning dollop of Heinz ketchup.

I'd rather see the ACC get two teams in the playoffs, if that's even possible.

Exactly. Pitt isn't going to a bowl. Pitt beating Miami can only decrease the potential bowl money that ACC teams will get, including VT.

"Nope, launch him into the sun and fart on him on the way up"
-gobble gobble chumps

"11-0, bro"
-Hunter Carpenter (probably)

I'm all for Miami losing because I hate Miami almost as much as I hate WVU and UVA, maybe even more than I hate UVA.

Then again, I also want absolute chaos to break out where every team has at least two losses and your only 1-loss team (Alabama after losing to Auburn) didn't even win their division and your only undefeated team is UCF.

Chaos is fun, but UCF won't be in even if they're the only unbeaten. Didn't we just do this a few years ago with Marshall in that position?

I don't think that's possible and I don't want an overhyped team that struggled to put away some bad teams going up a against a good team and getting blanked like OSU last year. If we put two in playoffs I want to see teams that have heart and play hard not teams that get lucky and fold when the ball doesn't bounce their way.

Pitt beating Miami would be very goacc! I'm all for it!

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

I agree. I think to be a competitive conference the gap between your best teams and your worst teams should be small. The true measure will come in the post season where we see how various ACC teams perform against other conferences. If ACC teams end up having a good bowl year like last year then it provides credence to the idea that the ACC is good conference and we've been cannibalizing each other.

Fuck mu

Even when you get skunked; fishing never lets you down. 🎣

For those keeping score at home they've mentioned the goal line stand four separate times during the Miami @ Pitt broadcast thus far.

Edit: Make it seven

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

i dig it

How the fuck can we never even be competitive in big games? Fucking Pitt over here is as mediocre as mediocre gets and beats a top 5 team every year

Miami has also been playing down to inferior opposition all season. Their offense last season was dangerous as it gets too.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Doesn't really make me feel any better. I am so tired of seeing VT come out and look completely useless and inept every time they play a good team. "The talent just isn't there" is an excuse that just doesn't fly when teams like Pitt and Syracuse routinely play great teams close and even win.

Are we still ignoring the Ohio State game? Saying we play terribly in every big game doesn't jive.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Pitt is 4-7 though. I guarantee that they are sitting over there wanting our record saying "Why do we only play well in big games, but lose all the ones we should win. Can't we be consistent at all?"

Grass is greener and all that.

Would you like Prys with that?

I'm sorry I want more for our program. I'm nt going to just sit there and say "aww shucks it could be worse" every time a top ten team blows us out of Lane by 3+ scores on national tv.

We don't need to win every one of those marquee matchups but our track record in those types of games is absolutely pathetic for ANY program.

Whoa buddy, not trying to insult you or your fanhood. Just trying to provide perspective. Sometimes I feel like we get wrapped up in everything that is wrong with our teams instead of appreciating what is good with our teams. Wanna enjoy the moment, not just the flaws.

Would you like Prys with that?

Why couldn't Miami get up for games they should easily win this year? They have given up already 122 yards rushing where Tech gave up 55. Miami made UNC, LOLUVA and several other teams this year look like top 25 teams.

I know I will take a lot of flak for this but... Our offensive coaching staff more or less told our players they have no confidence in them. On the road, at Miami, that will always result in a loss. It's not a motivator. Mark Richt, I assure you, was never honest with Malik Rosier about how bad a QB he really is... Until he was forced to today. Our staff got in our own player's heads which adds to what happens when you play an away game at a place like Miami. I think, and hope, they have learned that being too honest with 18-22 year olds does not produce the kind of results you may think it does (which is a lesson I had to personally learn as I took on more responsibilities in my career). Football is played as much between the ears as it is between the end zones. Pitt persevered at home. Let's also not forget that Miami barely beat some bad teams. That matters. I know the people running the rankings go with the "a W is a W mentality", but is it?

How objective have the pollsters been about a Miami?

Let's take a look:

Miami Results vs. FBS opponent by record:

TOL (10-2): 52-30 W
Duke (5-6): 31-6 W
FSU (4-6): 24-20 W
GT (5-5): 25-24 W
'Cuse (4-7): 27-19 W
UNC (3-8): 24-19 W
VT (8-3): 28-10 W
ND (8-2) : 41-8 W
UVA (6-5): 44-28 W
Pitt(5-7): 24-14 L

Miami has beaten 4 teams with a winning record. One of which is Toledo. I'm sure Toledo is a decent team but... Really. I always have doubts about how good ND is. That might be my own issue but they haven't been a seriously relevant team in over 20 years. We have our own issues including losing our left tackle. UVA is a winning team by one game. Miami just isn't that good.

Damn Miami about to screw the ACC out of some 💵.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

Not really. Miami didn't rank themselves #2 for being lucky.

As I type this, it's 3:25 left in the 3rd quarter, Pitt up 10-7.

The question is: do you want what's best for the ACC and VT or do you want what's best for college football?

What's best for the ACC and VT:
* Miami beats Pitt
* Clemson beats USCe
* Clemson wins a close game against Miami
* Alabama wins out
* Wisconsin loses at least once
* VT beats UVA

This should net two ACC teams in the playoff and VT in the Orange Bowl

What's best for college football:
* Miami and Clemson both lose this weekend
* Clemson beats Miami like a drum
* Alabama loses to Auburn
* Georgia loses to the Jackets
* Georgia beats Auburn
* UCF wins out
* Baylor beats TCU
* Iowa State wins out
* Wisconsin loses to Minnesota and Ohio State
* Ohio State loses to Michigan
* Memphis beats ECU
* UCF beats USF and Memphis
* Stanford beats Notre Dame
* (optional) Washington beats Washington State
* Stanford/Washington State beats USC

Everyone but Alabama, who didn't even win their division, and UCF would have at least two losses in this situation, likely putting pressure on an increase from 4 to 8 teams for the playoff.

I'm voting for all kinds of chaos that does not involve Virginia Tech.

Yeah I want Miami and Clemson to lose, give me chaos! Both their fan bases are unbearable!

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

True, but the ACC doesn't get any playoff money if that happens.

Don't care. I want an 8 or even 16-team playoff. Either:

8-team taking all of the P5 conference champions plus the highest ranked Go5 champion while using the Orange, Sugar, Fiesta, Rose, Cotton and Peach bowls as the quarterfinals

OR

16-team taking all ten conference champions using the home sight of the higher seeded team as the round of 16, with the quarterfinals and semifinals taking place in those same bowls.

I'd like to see 8 teams. 16 feels like too much. I'm thinking in terms of injuries and such. Imagine a top 3 team playing a Memphis or UCF and losing a QB. Yes that's football but these are still young men with futures. Give me 8 teams and guarantee a G5 team if ones ranked high enough and I think that would be acceptable. Just an opinion.

8 teams would be awesome. The 5 P-5 Champions, and three At-Large. Doesn't seem so hard to figure out.

That's the breaks!

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

There is a second "good for college football" scenario... but not really.

* Alabama beats Auburn
* Georgia wins out
* Clemson wins out, in a close game against Miami
* Miami wins today
* Wisconsin loses at least once
* Oklahoma loses at least once
* UCF wins out

You'd likely see an all-ACC/all-SEC top-4, shutting out the other three power conferences plus an undefeated UCF, which could also call for increasing the playoff to 8 teams.

Looked like the refs missed a big block in the back on that punt return.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

Mark Richt taking a page out of the Buffalo Bills School of QB Management putting in the backup with the game on the line.

Classic Richt. He was doing too well and needed to make sure that his team was an elite talent level, but not nationally competitive. As is tradition.

Would you like Prys with that?

To be fair, this would be more akin to the debacle that is the Bills if Miami's defense was getting run off the field prior to the QB change.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Mark Richt going with his backup QB here in the 4th......

Is coronavirus over yet?

I love college football!

Eat shit Pitt, no! Eat Shit Miami!

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

I wish Miami and Pitt could both lose...

Ugh, I hate Miami. Looking like the same beatable team we let win when we played them, and now going to cost us a potential shot at the Orange Bowl. At least we might not hear about bakness as much after this.

Really though after thinking about it, it's probably best we don't get a shot at the Orange Bowl. We haven't been playing like a NY6 caliber team lately, and when our opponent is likely ND, Aub/UGA, or OSU/PSU/Wisky, it wouldn't be a good look to play in a NY6 game and get completely crushed. Let's get a big win today and hope for a solid bowl destination against a manageable team and back to back 10 wins.

Georgia fans are watching this game,

Happily singing along.

Because they know every single word

DING DONG THE CHAIN IS DEAD

Unbelievable.

Miami with the big malfunction.

Choke job complete.

Bring on more chaos.

It's not official yet, but it appears that Pitt is having roasted ibis for Thanksgiving...

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

I guess in the real world Sylvester gets the best of Tweetie once in a while.

So....does this mean the U is not bak?

Fire Whit.

Also, LOL at Pitt scoring on the bootleg, should've done it last week.

The play by play man can hype this up as much as he wants, but Miami needs two onside kicks to win.

No excuse for there not to be a reverse angle on that play.

It didn't end up mattering, regardless.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

ABC (ESPN) being very selective about what replays they are showing?

"Vick, dashing back . . . here he comes again . . . Electrifying . . . and have you ever seen anything like this?"

Do you think they have a clear angle that they aren't showing?

"Nope, launch him into the sun and fart on him on the way up"

I feel like the skycam or the sideline camera were never shown.

"Vick, dashing back . . . here he comes again . . . Electrifying . . . and have you ever seen anything like this?"

Never overturning that.

Well, it's not a boring game, that's for sure.

Game, Nards.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

That's a 10s runoff if I'm reading things right - no times outs remaining, inside 2m of either half.

That said, I hope the receiver will be alright.

Edit: N/m. Didn't realize that only applied if the injury is the reason for the clock stoppage.

That's ballgame.

That's the ball game.

Pitt trying their best to blow this.

ACC CYCLE OF SUCK IS COMPLETE

#goacc

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I'm gonna try to do this by memory...

VT > UNC > Pitt > Miami > FSU > Syracuse > Clemson > Wake > NC State > BC > Louisville > LOLUVA > Duke > GT > VT.

Corrections welcome.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Yeah, looks right to me.

SYR > CLE > NCSU > BC > FSU > WF > LOU > SYR
PITT > MIA > UVA > DUKE > GT > VT > UNC > PITT

UM > SYR > CLE > NCSU > BC > FSU > WF > LOU > UVA > DUKE > GT > VT > UNC > PITT > UM

Circles complete

Maybe, just maybe... The ACC is a tough conference.

I think it is, ...but the going nomenclature is already " cycle of suck" so I roll with it.

Incidentally, if Auburn wins tomorrow, the SEC will have its own Wheel of Suck.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Last year, the ACC was a strong conference, propped up primarily by good young coaches and great QB play. This season the ACC has been much worse. I actually think the ACC is much weaker this season and each week seems to reinforce that. I also think last year's Miami team was much more dangerous because their offense was substantially better. Their defense is improved this year and much more opportunistic, but overall they have been the beneficiary of an ACC schedule where almost every single team they've played is worse than they were last year.

Not bak

"Take care of the little things and the big things will come."

Wisconsin is happy.

Clemson had better win, vs both South Carolina and Miami, or the ACC might lose their playoff spot.

So...seems like Miami needs that home advantage to be competitive. ...they're going to get throttled in the ACCCG.

Watching that meltdown I can't even believe we lost to that same team. That being said I'm just glad we pulled the Pitt game out.

Miami operates on hype. The turn over chain, the home crowd, their own egos. I think that Miami in B'burg would have looked similar to this game.

Looks like Mark Richt puts his pants on one leg at a time too

God almighty that USF touchdown effort.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

He started to drag that defender at the 12 yard line. Looked like RMFW vs NC State awhile back.

I thought the exact same thing. Defender got Earl Wolf'd

Eagle Rare got me a little slow in my reaction times today

Yes!!! My good buddy (and former Tech Terrace roommate) has a saying:

"Eagle Rare at happy hour, well done by last call..."

Nerves forcing my hand as well here in Charlotte. Me and my brothers (blood, NOT fraternity) standing in the back yard watching a surprisingly fun USF-UCF with a Michter's neat in one hand & a Wicked Weed Pernicious in the other.

Prooooobably need to downshift...

the numbers don’t lie and they spell disaster

This will make for an interesting twist on the Imperialism map (assuming Pitt doesn't go bowling at 5-7)

I doubt they go bowling. They're getting all that land and then closing up shop for the year. AINT THAT A BITCH

43 FBS teams ahead of Pitt in APR. Of that 44 teams (including the Panthers), 29 are either already bowl eligible or ineligible, leaving 14 teams ahead of Pitt in APR who could get in if there aren't enough bowl eligible teams. In order:

Air Force (4-7)
Duke (5-6)
Minnesota (5-6)
Vanderbilt (4-7)
Maryland (4-7)
Georgia Tech (5-5)
Middle Tennessee (5-6)
Utah (5-6)
Indiana (5-6)
Florida (4-6)
California (5-6)
Nebraska (4-7)
Miami, OH (5-7)

Then Pitt at 5-7

There are currently 74 bowl eligible teams to fill 78 slots -- this includes four "play in" games this weekend or next weekend:
* UCLA / California winner
* Colorado / Utah winner
* MTSU / ODU winner
* Purdue / Indiana winner

From there another twelve teams can become bowl eligible with one or two wins. This potentially includes the Florida State / Louisiana Monroe game if both win this weekend.

Of those twelve teams, as many as eight are ahead of Pitt in APR if they end the season with only 5 wins.

TL;DR: Pitt's gonna be holding a lot of territory at the end of the year because they're going to be home for the holidays. Duke, Vandy and Minnesota all have the same APR though Wikipedia lists Vandy and Duke switched compared to what SB Nation had listed.

EDIT: Only 78 slots. The count of 40 bowls includes the championship game. Also, the believed cut-off for APR is Minnesota.

EDIT 2: Buffalo is now Bowl Eligible. After the "play in" games, there are now 75 eligible teams for 78 slots.

The big winners here are Wisconsin and the Buckeyes.

..I reaaaally want OSU to lose. The amount of bragging that my buddy does is insufferable. I just need them to not make the playoffs.

Agreed.

Or get blanked again by Clemson or Alabama. It's a nice reminder of how much hype really surrounds the program. B1G teams need to lose to out of conference teams to silence the self justified superiority complex.

OSU has been vastly underachieving this season, but just off the top of the head, think of 3 teams who have been recruiting and coaching at a level higher than pretty much everyone else the past several years. I've got Alabama, Clemson, and Ohio State. Talent-wise, they stack up every bit with those other two. Meyer has really just struggled to replace Tom Herman. Agreed B1G is seriously overrated, but I think from a talent and depth perspective, OSU swings with the heavy hitters.

Would mention FSU, but I think Jimbo is overrated, and although they recruit well, they tend to recruit the diva persona. First bit of adversity, they all quit.

When talent levels are close coaching trumps. Look at Clemson vs. Alabama last year. I think it's safe to say that outside of QB Alabama's talent was superior. Clemson had great coaches at OC and DC and wins. Tom Herman was huge for OSU and they haven't been able to replace him. Alabama seems to be doing okay with the Pats former TE coach, however, we'll see how that holds up in the playoffs.

Gotta feeling the UCF band gonna be busy this afternoon

I don't know about yall

but I've been low key hyped for this USF-UCF match-up all year.

UCF should be top 8 if they win, them being 15 right now is a joke

Man, I think my only qualm with UCF is their SOS. If they opened against a better team I'd have zero problems with them being top 10. ...absolutely no way Scott Frost is coaching there next year, and that sucks.

Along that same line, USF not having been ranked was criminal.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

Damn!! What a play by UCF!!!! Last minute pitch for the TD!

To be fair, I didn't expect this game to be close. I thought USF was overrated all year long.

I just realized something, btw:

If Georgia Tech pulls the upset, Duke wins, and FSU wins out, and we beat UVA, is there a chance the Hoos get snubbed for a bowl game?

* That would make 11 bowl eligible ACC teams. Duke, FSU and UVA would be 6-6, the Jackets 6-5.
* The SEC has its 10 slots filled already, so we don't get their conditional
* The AAC may still fill its 7 slots. Even if they don't, that's only our tenth slot for eleven teams.
* C-USA already has 9 eligible teams for six slots, so we can't get their conditional.

By conference, discounting the four playoff slots and ignoring APR filled slots.
* AAC: 6 of 7. Potential to get 8
* ACC: 8 of 9. Potential to get 11
* Big 12: 7 of 7. Potential to get 8
* Big 10: 8 of 8, or 8 of 9 depending on Orange Bowl. Potential to get 9
* C-USA: 6 of 6. Currently 9 bowl eligible teams with the potential for a 10th
* MAC: 4 of 4. 7 bowl eligible teams
* Mountain West: 5 of 5. Currently 6 eligible with the potential for a 7th
* Pac 12: 7 of 7. 9 bowl eligible teams
* SEC: 10 of 10
* Sunbelt: 4 of 5. Potential for 6.
* Army: Armed Forces Bowl
* Notre Dame will also take an ACC slot if not in a NY6 bowl, but can only be taken over teams that have two fewer wins. Right now that's everyone but us, Clemson and Miami.

75 bowl eligible teams already, as many as 85 can become eligible for 78 slots (including the playoff).

If that happens, which seven teams get snubbed?

EDIT: Buffalo added to the list after their win over Ohio

I doubt a P5 team gets snubbed for a bowl. Even if it is LOLUVA.

No, I *don't* want to go to the SEC. Why do you ask?

We don't love dem Hoos.

This broke my heart. I love Miami and the turnover chain is my desired adornment.

Hoping Clemson wins out. Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma, and Wisconsin to the playoff. With Alabama shutting out Wisconsin 66-0 in the first round

Please tell me I'm correct in assuming your first statement is sarcasm.

Lol, I would assume so

Nah I love Miami. They're #3 in my book after VT and ND

thanks for the explanation, I didn't know what he was saying.

Did anybody see that segment earlier of Scott Frost playing scout QB whenever UCF plays an option heavy team? Looked like he could still play 20 years later. Really like Frost, I hope he takes the Nebraska job and builds that program back. A lot of respect for the Huskers.

If Nebraska can't land Scott Frost they may run the AD out of town.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

I legitimately think Frost could lead Nebraska back. He's from Nebraska, won a natty as QB there, and has an unbelievably high coaching IQ. Could be the next Osborne era there.

Would love to see them back on the schedule for some Home and homes. Frost and Fuente, two top offensive minds with up and coming programs, would be a great series.

There's some real hittin' going on in the USF UCF game.

THIS UCF USF GAME IS INCREDIBLE. 2-point conversion to make it 42-42....

Really pulling for UF today, so they can finally put an end to all that F$U bowl streak, even tho it's not official.

This Iron Bowl has been great. I'm loving Auburn's play calling tonight, very fun to watch.

Yep, not playing timid. We won the game last night but it was with the same conservative play calling we'd seen. Hopefully Fuente's offenses look more like this in terms of being aggressive.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

From that link:

Ten years ago, when Pitt upset WVU in the final week of the regular season, that legitimately ruined WVU's season.

There are several key differences between the two situations:
-Pitt/WVU was in week 14, not week 13. It was the same weekend as the championship games.
-The Big East did not have a championship game.
-WVU already had another loss prior to Pitt.

WVU dropped from #2 to #9 in the BCS with that loss, and they had no other opportunities to improve their situation. We haven't seen any polls or rankings to see how far Miami will drop from that loss. But if they beat Clemson, they will rise up again. I'd also say that WVU's #2 spot was more due to attrition than Miami's was.

I think it's just less dramatic because now it's more fair. In the BCS era we had teams get in and win titles with one win, but it had to be earlier in the year because voters were so reactionary. Now the committee is realizing that a late season loss isn't a microcosm of your entire season. And that's a good thing.

I have no idea why my username is VT_Warthog.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

I would see a 2 SEC, if Miami of Clemson were going in undefeated and kept it close, maybe... Even then, I think its 2 SEC if Georgia gets revenge, if its Auburn no Bama because "the game was already played"

Not Alabama and I'm gonna go with no Ohio state either

As much as I enjoyed seeing Bama lose, if the committee wants to be in any way consistent with their logic, Alabama should be in the playoff no matter what happens in the SECCG. Same situation as Ohio State last year.

Only way Bama gets in is if Ohio St beats Wisconsin next week, or Auburn wins

I forgot Georgia only has 1 loss so if they win and avenge their Auburn loss yeah they should be in.

But, using the logic that put Ohio State in last year, there is no scenario where Auburn or Ohio State this year gets in over Alabama.

That's assuming the committee sticks to their logic. I actually hope they don't because that logic was asinine.

I think that logic backfired on them. They took OSU over the B1G champ and OSU got shutout by Clemson. I would err on the side of the conference champion. By comparison Penn St. when onto to Ross Bowl and lost in a close game with USC. I'm not saying PSU beats Clemson in the playoff but if they end up looking bad at least you can say, "Hey, we went with the conference champion."

The logic made sense when you just looked at the W-L records and ignored everything else. They picked the only 4 teams with 1 or fewer losses.

Right now, there are six teams that fit into that category: Alabama (11-1), Miami (10-1), Clemson (11-1), Oklahoma (11-1), Wisconsin (12-0), Georgia (11-1). Alabama is the only team with no games left to play.

Probably the only scenario that lets the committee apply the same logic as last year and not take a lot of crap would be if Oklahoma, Wisconsin, and Georgia win their conferences. Those three teams and the ACC Champ would be the final four.

I'll put my money on Georgia next week in Atlanta

For some reason, I dislike Malzahn as much as Saban, and I have no idea why. Also, Bama has seemed different and lacking the same edge that the '09 to '12ish teams had, just something intangible. I think one thing that seems off to me with Bama is the fact that they abandoned the traditional single back/under center offense just because Saban got butthurt that his defenses were getting winded by hurry up teams.

Coordinator changes would be my bet, the obvious is Kirby Smart, but what other overturn have they had?

Just checked up on the weekend and realized that I had a 6-leg ML parlay for games that I was sure were locks. Five teams did what they were supposed to, but Miami decided to crap the bed. Screw you Miami.
