This is totally a LOLUVA QB incoming. Kid played at a private school in Richmond that has sent lots of grads to LOLUVA.

We all know why he is really transferring: the kid truly realizes that Michigan sucks AND that Danny Coale caught that ball.
Meh. Nothing about this worries me. Its not like this is a Russell Wilson situation, where if you surround him with better talent he will light you up. Exact opposite really, since Michigan definitely has more talent. I have no idea what the QB situation is like behind Benkert , but its possible he either bridges a gap for year or adds some needed depth. Bronco and Harbaugh are both quirky so the transition might be pretty easy for him.

UVA has been aggressively pursuing one of the top-rated JUCO QBs this year, and they are apparently one of the favorites to land him.
If they do, I would expect Speight to end up elsewhere because I would imagine both guys want to start.
Speight will have to sit next year anyway due to transfer rules, won't he? So I don't think this will be a huge issue.
Assuming he has graduated he does not have to sit out a year.

I'm in Richmond and he went to Collegiate. Played in a private school league. At 6'5" or so anyone could stand out in that league. I hope he goes to loluva.
I'm a prep league graduate, the league is absolute garbage for producing d1 talent (Outside of Russell Wilson). Only exception is FUMA but their post grad team is one that pumps out P5 players, not their high school team.
Benedictine HS puts out some talent.
BHS isn't in the Prep League. Also there is some talent coming out of Woodberry Forest, Collegiate and a few other schools in the Prep league.
My perception of central VA prep schools is that they produce FCS and G5 talent. Not so much P% players. Again, just the way I view it.
Now FUMA? How many players have we run through there after HS graduation, 2500?
Just from my memory: Russell Wilson, Patrick Dosh, Patrick Estes, Raymon Minor, Nigel Williams, Bracey, that DL from clemson. The list of P5 players is long from just Benedictine and Collegiate.
Benedictine is a little different as they recruit kids to come play for them and given them athletic scholarships. Their basketball teams were always stacked when I was growing up.
The "true" prep school kids (e.g. the Collegiate/St. Chris lifers) don't really pump out great football talent. Obviously Russell Wilson is a glaring exception. From Collegiate, I don't recall a ton of guys going D1...Jake McGee and obviously Wilton Speight...Zach Mendez walked on at UVa? I think Wilton's little bro walked on at Michgan. I'm starting to draw a blank here.

Interesting, I never knew that. I remembered back in the day some of the most talented kids in the region would go to play there (I remember Ed Davis shitting on my alma mater when I came back for winter break my freshman year of college).
O we got lots of kids during their junior and senior year especially in basketball. My years there 98-02. We had at least a dozen or more basketball and football players even a baseball player, come in after freshmen year. Some would get help but it would have to be need based or given by Catholic Churches around the Richmond area.
Heard the gents on PTI talking about Harbaugh going back to the NFL. Could this be why Speight is leaving?
