Celebrate Our Five Year Anniversary of the 2012 Russel Athletic Bowl with this Commemorative Video

I'm pretty excited to be heading back to this great bowl game. To celebrate our return and the five year anniversary of the 2012 version I made a video showing all 20 punts from both teams (and Joey Phillip's hair flip).

Please enjoy!

Its pretty much a dead-heat between this game and the infamous 0-0 Wake Forest game for the most dismal and depressing game I've ever watched.

Logan Thomas threw a sweet touchdown in the Russell Athletic Bowl and I remember Antone Exum having a sweet pick too.

0-0 has zero highlights. Well, it has one, but we all know what it is.

If you've never seen the UNC/Illinois Kraft Fight Hunger Bowl then you are truly missing out on the worst display of football that has ever been played. Go watch it, I'll wait. It's like college football as a tragic comedy, the rare bird that is so bad that it has been worth remembering.

So it was like the blue m00n game? This video cracks me up every time.

@hokie_rd

At least we won the bowl. I watched the replay the next morning because it was so bad it was good.

Nah. Thursday Night vs Miami at Lane 2014 was depressing. Almost shut out on primetime in lane to an average Miami team firmly put me in the 'fire Beamer' camp.

RAB and VT00WF went from depressing to hilarious about halfway in.

That game was tough to watch!

I remember sitting through this game in the rain and thinking how it was the worst football game I had ever seen. I then attended the WF game and my opinion changed.

uva sucks

Guess that means I'll just have to make a similar video for that game!

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

Looks like we did a lot of #isWinning in this game

The best thing to come out of this game were the helmets.

Ah, the infamous 2012 Russell Athletic Bowl. I remember being on a family vacation in Orlando at the time and being so conflicted about bailing on the family for the afternoon to go to the game. So glad I didn't do it. That would've been a painful game to watch.

Michael Holmes was our punt returner! Michael Holmes!

I remember when we spent an offseason trying to convince ourselves that Michael Holmes was going to fill in for David Wilson.

I missed that one, well I was in my own wedding...thanks for the Video...At least we won.

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

I was there with the band... I remember it raining most of the second half even though it wasn't in the forecast. Also that was one of the worst stadiums I've ever been too. I hear it has since been renovated but at the time it was rickety and kind of dilapidated. They also had flags at the top of the stands for all the ACC teams (including West VA and Notre Dame??). My favorite thing was that the UVA flag was wrapped around itself at half mast, a perfect reflection of the program

I also went to a game in the pre-renovated stadium. It was awful, bunch of metal bleachers.

I've also been post-renovation. It is now on par with most NFL stadiums. They did a wonderful job with it.

The best thing about this victory was that it absolutely shocked the Rutgers fans. Rutgers was coming off one of its best seasons in school history; they were 9-3 and claimed to be Co-Champions of the Big East (even though there was a four-way tie and Rutgers lost the tiebreaker). Rutgers fans were talking so much crap the entire week, saying things like "You don't belong on the same field as us!" They honestly thought they would beat us by 50. So the fact that they lost to the worst VT team in 20 years on a missed field goal in OT was absolutely hilarious.

I was there as a resident of the Orlando area at the time. I remember my wife and I went to get her Christmas present of a new iphone earlier that day. We had seats on the 2nd row next to one of the goal line pylons. I got so bored during the game that I started checking out the camera on her new phone. I decided to record video of a play since the ball was coming towards our end zone. That play was the touchdown throw by Logan Thomas that was caught right in front of us.

Begs the question...why didn't you record everything after that? Your wife could have sacrificed her battery so it wasn't so close.

If you play it, they will win.

I do love those helmets, and the logo.

...I mean if USCe and CCU can have a fighting gamecock on it's helmet, who's to say we can't have a fighting gobbler? Mike Vick dogfighting scandal aside...**ducks**/s

seriously, I'm assuming we retired it because our best player ever got in trouble for dog fighting, and both dog fighting and gamecock fighting is illegal, and it would be a bad PR move to keep it...anyone in the know????

Jesus man it's monday morning Sunday Funday is over lol. Why in the world would you think that's why we didn't use those helmets after that?

The real reason is because the old logos (fighting gobbler and TV) were retired a few days later on December 31st. So they can't be used. The reason being was to prevent brand confusion. All while trotting our more helmets with wonky logos than we had wins that season

that's the reason? were people really confused about TV and VT? i'll admit, marketing is not my forte, but i don't see where brand confusion is an issue. Mind you, I grew up in MD, and witnessed about 900 different Terps logos before I turned 10. Maybe I'm used to it?

shame, i love the logo, and wouldn't mind the fighting gobbler as a secondary used occasionally

That was their reasoning. But I don't see it.

With regard to scrapping the logos, Jim Weaver did stupid things sometimes. That was definitely one of them. And how successful was it? I still saw clothes selling with those logos. I actively pursued clothes with those logos when I heard they were going away.

People liked them. People still do. Bill Dooley started the trend away from the fighting gobbler. So, it's been going away for over 30 years. It's still not gone. It will hang around.

But..but...but..we won.

The Dude Abides

Ah...this game. It was a fucking chore to watch, ..but luckily I had to drop my parents off at the airport and it kind of ran into game time, so I had it DVR'ed and was watching the game while being able to fast forward through commercials. All game I was really diligent about not checking the actually score compared to what I was watching at the moment. What happens next is kind of bizzare..at a certain point, it stopped recording (just the length of the game, but it was still playing what happened after that) Get to OT... we kick and make our fg. Now its Rutgers turn...they're lining up..the kick the ball and...

and wife sits on the remote and hits the LIVE button. It goes to ESPN showing highlights of other games. I have to check my phone to see that we won. You wanna talk about being let down after having already been let down by such a shitty game.

I was at the Russell Athletic game. I'd much rather watch that game - in which two good defenses played good defense and tackle football - than watch some Big12 7-on-7 flag-football pillowfight where the score ends up 66-61. I might as well just watch the last 3 minutes of a January NBA game.

Call me old-fashioned but alot of points doesn't make a game good and few points doesn't make a game bad.

died of boredom the first go round live.... and now because I have nothing better to do at work I just watched a highlight video of punts. I need to do better with my life.
