"That's gonna be a no from me, dog" - Buzz, probably

Scholarship counts against the football team, no? Didn't we learn that from D. Wilson last season? Might as well let the kid workout and see if he can be a warm body.

I am curious, who was the last dominant two sport athlete in the college ranks? Any school really. l I guess im only thinking on Basketball and Football, but these seasons collide and just seem so hard to manage and be great at both. Plenty of examples of great football players that were also exception baseball players, these seasons work out well (Russ Wilson, Jameis Winston).

You're right. Baseball works better because they're different seasons, and also because they have different physical demands.

As far as basketball and football, I was about to throw Ronald Curry in there, but I just looked it up and he wasn't really an impact basketball player at North Carolina.

Charlie Ward was a while ago, but he was a Heisman Trophy winning QB for Florida State, and ended up having a really nice career in the NBA.

Like you said, seems there's a lot of football/baseball combo players, with Bo Jackson, Deion Sanders and Brian Jordan each playing in both the NFL and MLB during their careers.

I used to be with it, but then they changed what it was. Now what I'm with isn't it, and what's it seems weird and scary to me.

Wow yes, Charlie Ward is a great example. Guy won the heisman and played 10+ years in the NBA.

Now that i've had my coffee, i also remember tiny Nate Robinson playing foosball at UW.

There were many years when the best QB in New York was the guard on the Knicks.

Both Jameis and Russel Wilson played baseball in college as well.

I need to read better

Julius Peppers was pretty good for UNC on the hardcourt. Jimmy Graham also played ball but I think he was pretty average.

If I remember correctly, Graham didn't play football until after his basketball eligiblity expired or he gave up basketball for football so he never played both at the same time. Let's not forget our own Jeff King either. Distinctly remember him scoring on Shane Battier.

Leg for Jeff King. He was one of my favorites. He was clutch in that win over Dook.

Don't forget Bryan Randall my dudes. I just remember how size wise, he looked average on a football field but absolutely jacked on a basketball court.

Uhhh...Battier graduated in 2001, we didn't play Duke in basketball until 2005, so maybe Shelden Williams is who you're thinking? That's who he hit the late hook shot over in our first conference win against them.

I don't think it was Battier (he left Duke in 2001), I believe it was Sheldon Williams aka The Forehead

Plan for the worst and hope for the best, not the other way around.

Uh, does Track & Field count?

I don't think Bruce Ellington (South Carolina, now with the Texans) qualifies as dominant, but he had a career as a solid contributor on the court for the Gamecocks, too.

Who knows, maybe Buzz needs a warm body and he may be able to hang in D1 basketball. I was intrigued by this, so looked it up and he averaged almost 20 pts per game as a sophomore. That dipped a little the next season to almost 16 per game. However the most interesting thing I learned was that his older brother is PJ Hairston who played at UNC and was drafted in the first round by the Miami Heat in 2014. Maybe there is some potential there.........though I'd rather him focus on football

Here's to hoping that his shoulder recovers quickly. I wish he was targeting the beginning of spring rather than the end of it. But you really can't rush these things.

He'll probably play as much basketball as Isaiah Ford did

Northwest Guilford senior and Top Div.1 recruit, Tre' Turner talks with WXII 12's Chris Lea about his shoulder injury recovery and transition plans in becoming a Virginia Teach. Hokie.

After 14 straight, the Hokies have been teaching Virginia what it feels like to lose, a lot.

Virginia Vah Teach. Hokie.

Much better.

Vah Teach Hoagie. That's coach Fuentos favorite sandwich from sycamore deli.

Hope he's ready next year. Looks like a major talent, Explosive speed at 6-4 and high points ball well.
