It's week 11 and the Hokies, as well as Thursday night football, are back in the Six Pick. Week 11, week 11 ... damn, this season has flown by. There are only four regular season weeks left and this saddens me. I do take solace knowing big games and big upsets are coming. The BCS Championship Game is not set, no one, not even LSU is guaranteed a spot, they have to win out. The teams still in contention best keep your eyes on the crystal prize because each and every week there is going to be a battle for those who want to take that prize away away. This week those two teams are Oregon and TCU. Both do not have a shot at the national championship, but taking it away from Stanford or Boise State would be the next best thing to winning it, and I'll be watching just in case it happens.

Intense. Loud. Fanatical. Intimidating. All words NOT associated with Stanford football. Who else goes from a stadium capacity of 85,000 to 60,000 and still can't fill it up? I do suspect it will be a full house this weekend, but I am not expecting a T-Town environment. I am hoping to be pleasantly surprised at fan base forsaking their usual Saturday night study hall for Saturday night football with Herbie and Brent and if they can cause one false start, that's a win.

10 Virginia Tech -1 at 21 Georgia Tech 8:00 pm ESPN
Hokie fans, if you are like me you've probably seen #avengenesbitt or other unfunny GiT jokes this week. Or maybe you've seen comments about 'How many National Championships does VT have?' or 'We have better Engineering' or VPI references (which really isn't a put down, but you can't tell a know everything he's wrong). It's like the Yellow Jackets are hoos, but without daddy's money and therefore an even smaller chance of getting laid. However, since they are nerds and socially awkward, we should be nice to Yellow Jacket fans. Remember they were the guys in middle school who made pretend paper cell phones to talk to their "friends." I'd even wager all of the male and half of the female students played pocket pool while reading reports in front of class in high school. Let's just be happy they've upgraded to tricycles in college, by their mid-life crisis they may even advance to second base. They deserve our pity.
Pick & Rationale: GiT. Trust me I hate picking against Tech here, but I think Paul Johnson's scheme is perfectly made to attack Bud Foster's defense. Maybe if Hop and Taylor were healthy, I would go with the Hokies, but I am not confident the team can hold the line. Frustrating to think Miami is CPJ's kryptonite and VT isn't, but this game is about matchups. I also think algroh's cover 2 shell will make the offense grind and dink n dunk to victory. On the road, my confidence is low.

19 Nebraska -3.5 at 12 Penn State noon ESPN
I was going to bypass this game, because I couldn't get around the elephant in the room and just talk football. So instead, I am going to leave you a very brief list of issues these victims have possibly suffered through over the years: Long term effects of abused children include: fear, anxiety, depression, anger, hostility, inappropriate sexual behavior, poor self esteem, tendency toward substance abuse, difficulty with close relationships and a higher rate of suicide. Due justice will come to those responsible, enabling or turning a blind eye, but those kids, now adults, are the one who need our help the most. Let's hope attention, focus and help is sent their way.
Pick: Nebraska
***
West Virginia at 23 Cincinnati -3.5 noon ABC

I was torn on whether to include this game. While the cousins don't deserve Six Pick space anymore, the fact that Cincy is the birthplace of Cornhole made me reconsider. Pushing it over the top for inclusion was our own RusynHokie. You see his girlfriend is a Bearcat and if he picks against them, I get the feeling she'd be pretty unhappy. Inflicting just a little bit of discord has always been a hobby of mine and this was low hanging fruit. Coach Bitch Jones after a one year hiccup has the Bearcats in first place in the Big East. Jones' squad can almost taste a BCS bowl trip if they defeat wvu in Big East Prime Time.
Pick & Rationale: wvu, getting points and to win outright. 'nati's pass defense is really, really bad. Holgorsen doesn't even have to pound red bulls to call plays that tune up the Bearcats secondary.

20 Auburn at 15 Georgia -13 --Deep South's Oldest Rivlary-- 3:30 pm CBS
Let's get to the point. After starting 0-2, the dawgs have not lost, cooling Coach Mark Richt's seat considerably. If Georgia wins the SEC East, he has almost certainly bought himself another year in Athens. So the stakes are very high for Georgia, a win in this game all but locks up a trip to the Atlanta for a spot in the SEC Championship game. Auburn would like nothing better but to win one between the hedges, beat their cross division rival and re-energize their 2011 season. As a founding member of The Cult of Gus, I am not sure he can get this offense going enough to win against what has turned out to be a very good UGA defense. For the sake of competitive games, I hope so..
Pick & Rationale: Auburn getting points. The dawgs will win, and while their offense is decent, it is far from explosive. It is possible the ugga defense totally locks down War Damn Eagle, but I think Gus will have them playing well this week.

TCU at 5 Boise State -15 3:30 pm Versus

Next time I will give you the awkward story about Kellen Moore's wife, Julie and how she thought she was marrying Kenneth the Page of NBC's 30 Rock fame. Today I am going to try and convince you that Kellen Moore and Boise State would be very competitive in the SEC. Yeah, yeah I know the arguments. If they had to play schedule X, they'd lose and yes, I've heard the argument that they beat everyone they face. It's been repeated ad nauseam and I see both sides of the argument very clearly. I personally think the Broncos would lose one game or more if they played a SEC schedule, but that would hardly keep them out of a BCS CG. I would like to remind you that in the past decade, LSU and Florida twice have won the national championship with imperfect records taking losses to average or worse Ole Miss, Arkansas and Kentucky teams. When I look at Boise, I see a physical, extremely well coached football team with a great competitor and tactician at quarterback. Certainly, the talent level, especially on the edges may be lacking, but they would be no worse than 3rd in the SEC or Big12 this year.
Pick & Rationale: TCU, getting points. Boise is the better team, but I am pretty certain their offense and defense aren't quite as good as the previous couple of years. The Horned Frogs have had an even bigger drop off, but they do appear to be getting a bit better and I think they'll keep it within 2 touchdowns.

7 Oregon at 4 Stanford -3.5 8:00 pm ABC
For the third year running this is the premier Pac-whatever game. Everyone knows about the Oregon blur and everybody's All-American Andrew Luck, but injuries could very well be the story of this top 10 matchup. A few weeks back it was Oregon navigating TheMichael James and Darron Thomas injuries. Both appear almost fully healed now. Stanford, however is really banged up with 3 of their best players, LB Shane Skov, WR Chris Owusu and TE Zach Ertz all out with 3 more important players also far less than 100%. I am very interested to see how this game plays out. Oregon isn't quite he offensive juggernaut of years past, but Stanford without Skov and being a tad slow on the edge, the Ducks could have their breakout game. While the USC game was a Heisman showcase game for Luck, injuries to his receiving threats likely will refocus the Stanford offense back to the running game. Points are coming, but Oregon now has less to game plan for and that's a huge advantage.
Pick & Rationale: Oregon, winning out right. Too much speed on the outside and too many injuries to passing threats are going to allow the Ducks to load the box. Once UO gets up by 2 scores, Stanford is going to be in trouble.
Beer of the Week:

It's been far too long, time for the beer of the week to be an IPA. A new beer to Virginia distribution wise, New Belgium's Ranger IPA is an outstanding session IPA. I have had a few this week and will have quite a few more this weekend.
Quick Recap:
Remember these pics are against the spread.

Im better than my win %
Every week I inch back to .500. DERP.
VT -- I may not get back to even with this but ill take the risk. Ill leave reason to the nerds in ATL.
Nebraska -- This game stinks for many reasons. I cant see the players getting this one for the gipper.
'Nati -- TEAM RUSYNHOKIE. Actually, TEAM I DONT WANT THAT POOR BASTARDS SATURDAY RUINED.
Auburn -- Points are in my favor.

it's a slide i hope to continue
so long as it's the first pick that i miss
RAMBLE ON (totally agree. bud can't stop this scheme with his best, much less his 2nd, 3rd, 4th...)
HUSKERS (way too many distractions. this line could [read: should] end up NEB - 6.5)
CUZZINS (i keep pickin', they keep losin. GOOO CUZZINS!)
WARDAMNEAGLE (did anyone else watch that crazy shit last night? i'll ride my emotions/hate for UGA here)
TCU (covering the shootout. haven't looked at the o/u, but i'll take over)
STANFORD (these nerds are wayyyyy too smart for vegas. they continue this heater even if it requires OT)
I feel special
VT - See TKP's "Raid." post. All of that plus more.
Penn State - They will win this game by a shitload because every single player will play out of their minds for what will probably be joe paterno's last game. That stadium will also be loud as all hell.
UGA - it's in athens and....eh.
TCU (points) - BSU will win but TCU will keep it close.
Oregon - Ducks will come out fast, and stanford won't be able to keep up.
and now, my personal game of the week, mostly because my personal/romantic life hinges on its outcome:
Cincy/WVU
I'm probably the only person who has watched cincy all season and while their defense isn't great, its their secondary that is just god awful. Cincy actually has a rather impressive LB in JK Schaffer who is behind Luke "superhuman" Kuechly in tackles this season. Given that WVU's strength lies in its air attack I would normally say that cincy doesn't stand a chance. However, WVU is having internal issues that will keep them from, well, giving a shit. WVU lost rather sternly to Cuse on the road, and most notably, and recently, Louisville AT HOME. In what can only be related news, VanHolgo recently told the press that he was considering only taking 50 players to PBS because he only wants to take players "who actually care." This means that WVU won't play to their potential and that will only help cincy. In addition, Zach Collaros (QB), Isiah Pead (RB), and DJ Woods (WR) are all seniors and are capable of leading the team in ways that remind me of our team last year post JMU. All three played out of their minds when Cincy hosted BoomerSooner at PBS last year and I think they play at that level again this year, if not more so since the defense is respectively stronger, WVU is on the decline, and they have the confidence of a 7-1 record. All this being said I believe that Cincy will win this game.
HOWEVER
While cincy will win, I do not believe they will win by much. The only reason they beat Pitt was because Tino Sunseri stopped playing mentally and the Pitt PK hooked the 50 yarder to send it to OT. Similarly, the only reason that cincy beat USF was because BJ Daniels decided to start throwing picks in the 2nd half. So week 11 pick six pick for this game is.....
WVU in points - Cincy will win but not cover.

Stanford.
Doesn't Vegas always say to bet home dogs? Yet this week, I just can't pick them. Nebraska is jekyl and hide offensively, but Penn State may be the worst offensive top 20 team ever. When you couple that with the chaos on campus, I can't imagine them winning.
Cincy might be the worst one loss team in the country. A pretty lousy Tennessee team absolutely smoked them. WVU isn't SEC quality, but they are the first team with decent athletes that Cincy has run into.
I am not sold on Georgia. I think they have been benefactors of playing other SEC East teams that come in with major injury issues on the eve of playing the Bulldogs. Auburn isn't great, but they have a great game in them.
Boise is good. Really good. They wouldn't win the SEC, but I would take them to beat everyone in the Pac 12 except maybe Stanford (bad matchup for Boise with the power sets up front.)
Stanford beats Oregon in a matchup of precision/power football played the way it is supposed to be played, versus video game sissy "pick Vince Young and run around the end" Playstation football.

Well...Lets see if I can remain above 500 this week...
Hokies- Really the only pick I'm unsure about
Nebraska-Obvious reasons not concerning football

Auburn-13 is a lot of points
Boise-They want to eliminate all doubt and will come out fired up
Oregon-Kryptonite

Wow...lots of tough picks this week!
GT, but only because my pick will jinx them.
Nebraska
WVU to rebound, but everytime I pick a WVU game, they mess me up, and I really do love it when the 'eers loose.
Dawgs win by less than the line
BSU-I almost (wanted to?) picked TCU here for the upset, but I'm sure BSU figures a way to pull this out, much to my disgust....btw...did Kellen Moore meet his wife at their orthodontist?
Ducks squat on the Stanford field and the Stanford defense steps in it....Ducks win
i promise
next week i will do better for you on the pics.
Wk 11 picks
VT, if we show up it'll be a close one (I'll be there as part of the 12th man.)

Watch for me on TV in ATL
Virginia Tech - Good guys win w/ incredible performance of David Wilson
Nebraska - Think the preview said it all
WVU - I just want to see no Big East team ranked in the top 25
Auburn - That spread is way too much
TCU - Again huge spread for a game TCU has been looking forward to all year
Stanford - Luck is just crazy good
I really think VT is setting up to attack the option this time. The changes we made on defense were just for that very purpose and I feel like we have the speed to really make that method of defending the option work. Gotta pick the good guys

Wmf'nVu....but who will realy care?
Burn'n (points, UGGGGA win)........agree with someone earlier; will be an ugly game; penalties and poor execution.
Boysy; middle finger to TCU for beating them to the better conference and leaving them with sloppy 2nds
Stanford; the more well-rounded team. Average offenses (LSU, Wash St, and AZ) have hung 28+ on them.
I'll get into the Sam Adams Winter Lager this weekend. Gotta a Thomas Creek Pumphouse Porter calling my name, too. Probably Thursday night.
if good
bring me a pumphouse.
My Losers of the Week
These are the teams that I will be picking, but rooting against:
The Bumble Bees - I go into most games thinking the Hokies will win, but this one I'm going in Hoping we will win. Don't worry though by kickoff I will be confident that we will win by 3 TDs!
PSU - This game should not be played, but I'm confident even without distractions Nebraska would husk the crap out of the lions.
Cinci - If VT does win the ACC and get back to the Orange Bowl, I don't want our two wins to be over Cinci. At least give us Pitt or WVU.
Dawgs - I'll be rooting for War Damn Eagle
The Potatoes - Would like to see Boise lose to aid our ascension to the top 5!
The Cardinal - I am not a fan of the Luck family!
Seattle Hokie Week 11 Picks
Here is a pretty booze free Thursday only pick. I will give the rest of m picks on Friday if I am feeling up to it. After going 4-2 last week I am really hoping to go to 0-6 this week. I am heading to Atlanta on Monday for work and then to DC on Wednesday for the UNC game. I will have a good time no matter what, but I don't want to be crappy mood until then. On to the first pick.
GiT - I don't want to beat a dead horse but our D is not ready for this team. If we can't stop 3rd and short we will not win. I hate CPJ and Nesbitt, I am sure I will learn to hate a whole new crop of GiT players. Here's to getting back to .500.
Well I am off to a great 0-1 start, and since my pick was Git, I couldn't be happier. The victory last night means my BAC will go no lower than .7 until I wake up at 3:30 on Monday morning for a 5:30am flight. I love the six pick, but after the game last night, it is so much better. Now I just need to lose 5 more in my quest to .500. I know it has been said in an earlier post, but I am sorry, BCO, the lack of a legitimate cheer babe picture is deplorable. Please try to do better next time.
PSU
WVU - Cincy is poised for the Orange Bowl and a match up with UVA or VT. What happens in the Big East-Central-South-Midwest-Southeast-Midwest-Western-Northwestern-Pacific Conference is never as scripted. Shit teams beat good ones more often than that Kardashian chick gets divorced. Also I am hoping for a VT/WVU game in the near future.
Auburn - Well Georgia is on a roll and Mark Richt's job is looking a lot safer. Auburn hasn't been playing to shabby either. If any Georgia players did any drugs or other violations, I am sure it will be tabled until a later date.
Boise St. - These are a lot of points but Boise is ready to start laying it on folks. They also might be a little pissed off that TCU is leaving for the Big 12 via the Big East, lessening the strength of the Mountain West. TCU has rebounded since the opening loss to Baylor but they haven't played anyone of Boise's caliber yet. I really think BCO missed and easy opportunity on some pron here.
TCU Showgirls
Boise St Fans
Stanford - Andrew Luck might win the Heisman in this game. Or lose it. Or be irrelevant. Stanford is banged up but Darron Thomas is having an off year. This is old school power football against new school speed. Or smart and slow kids versus very athletic kids. No matter, Stanford will show everyone why they deserve to play in a bowl game that LSU and Alabama are not playing in.
Beer of the week is Full Sail Wassail. It is the holiday season and a wise man told me that if holiday beer is available, it is time to drink it. Well I am in and this is pretty good stuff. The weekend will be spent watching football, drinking this beer and getting ready for my return to Blacksburg. I hope to meet up with many of you on Thursday.
Go Hokies!

Alrighty! Getting pumped for the game tonight, already watch the Enter Sandman and Hokie 300 trailer...
VPI. CPJ can suck it. Stadium empty by middle third quarter. It's a school night.
Penn State. JoPa was a figure head for the last 7 seasons. He didn't do anything anyway. they come out strong this week, but future weeks may not be the same...too much energy spent on this game.
Da Bear(cat)s. WVU just can't get it going. Callaros and Pead ALL DAY.
War Eagle. Uga can't cover (nearly) two TD's in the $EC. The dawgs win a close one...
Boise in a laugher. TCU just doesn't have it, and the Broncos see a little light at the end of the tunnel. Yes, the Pokes won last week but not convincingly. And they won't make the same mistake they made last year...
Oregon. Welcome back Mr James. (Loud speaker in the mega shop voice: "Would the engraver of the Heisman trophy please stop etching Andrew Lucks' name on the trophy. Thank you.")
Today is going to be sweet! 12:15 tee-time in OC, free dinner at the Turtle in OC, free hotel room to crash in after the game, and another free round tomorrow. Miller Lite today all day, and Ranger IPA on Saturday!!!
Picks
VPI - I'm not picking against the Hokies in November.
Nebraska - At this point I think there's a better chance of Penn State forfeiting than there is of them winning.
West Virginia - Why? It's the Big East.
Auburn - It's a rivalry game. Georgia has been able to rattle off a bunch of wins against bad to average teams. Auburn will be able to move the ball and keep it close.
TCU - As much as I want TCU to win, it's not going to happen. Boise's letdown was two weeks ago... only beating Air Force by 11. I think it'll be close, but Boise will pull away in the end. Boise at San Diego State next week couple be where they slip up.
Stanford - I have a feeling this is going to be an epic game and makeup for last Saturday's "Game of the Century".
I'll be drinking bourbon in victory, or defeat. Go Hokies!

Picks
- Virginia Tech: gotta keep their offense off the field. Win brings magic number to one for the Coastal Division. Plus it is a Groh-coached defense we are going against. I got 34-27: need a "Miami-like" performance (not a 23-25 but moving the ball methodically and at will) from LT3 plus Bud's cooking to come up big tonight on defense. As I said in an earlier post time to bitch slap some CPJ (hopefully)!
- Nebraska: PSU will be playing for Joe Paterno's legacy but I can't see them performing all too well considering they JUST had a coaching change (in a manner of speaking- dude probably already did a majority of the coaching) and the lack of game-planning will be evident on Saturday.
- WVU: I wish I could go with Cincy (WVU hate and a good friend is a law student there) but I think WVU is going to respond after some poor showings of late. My "upset" pick of the week I guess just cause of WVU's recent slide and the fact they're on the road. I think they win convincingly (ten-twenty points).
- Auburn vs UGA is a toss up- I will go with Auburn I guess in the matchup I truly do not care about. Laptop thief employers vs. Hot seat coaches- that's how I see this matchup.
- Boise State: I picked BSU to go undefeated at the beginning of the season plus I just don't think TCU has enough talent to keep up with the Smurfs. This one could get ugly.
- Stanford: Oregon has done really well over the last three years but I see Luck and the Cardinal getting their revenge for last year's only loss. Plus for what its worth Stanford has home field advantage. Oh and Andrew Luck.
Hokies in a tight one - If Musberger was calling this game it'd be the cover of the century 24-22 Hokies
Nebraska - It would've been worth flying to Vegas to put down my life savings on this one
'Nati - I'd rather guess how many Red Bulls Holgo has on Saturday
Auburn - covers, Georgia wins, I know nothing about either team
TCU - If there is a fair and just god Boise will lose a game
Oregon - In a good ol fashioned SHOOT OUT
Hoping this isn't just wishful thinking...
Hokies - I just... can't do it.
Penn State - I hope they leave it all out on the field
WVU - Good effort, but you're still Cincy, Cincy.
Auburn - Fuck Georgia
Boise - those Texas teams keep fucking me, and I don't think TCU can handle Boise anyway
Oregon - Your weekly reminder that LAMICHAEL IS SPANISH FOR THE MICHAEL. Yer welcome.
