Since there are bowl eligible teams that didn't get a spot, waivers aren't allowed this year... atleast if we're going by the rules.

I'm sure the NCAA will take immediate action by deleting the emails they got about this and ignoring any other questions about this story completely.
In all seriousness there is about zero chance they do anything about this. Logistically they're never going to replace them in a bowl that is already announced and selling tickets, and they're not going to punish them for a mistake that was made by the NCAA and not FSU.
FSU will do FSU things and be the first non-eligible bowl team to play in a bowl game. Then they will argue that since they actually played in the game the streak continues.

Maybe a clause saying they have to meet certain criteria. And if they don't meet that, maybe it gives the bowl/NCAA an out.

He's right, but which of those had an incentive to catch this? Though now that it has been highlighted, I'm guessing it might get caught next year.
It really bothers me that most news sources are giving credit to "reddit" or "r/cfb" (which is actually better) instead of the specific user. It wasn't a community effort, and reddit doesn't consist of just one person. I guess it's a bit of a "hacker known as 4chan" situation.

Yeah, which is why saying r/cfb or " the college football subreddit" is definitely a bit better, but there are places that just say it was discovered on reddit. Honestly, I wouldn't care if they just said reddit if they provided a hyperlink, but that's not happening as much as it should either.

I'm not sure what you mean by this. If they repost an article, "credit" is inherent in the posted link to the other site. A claim without a source is always met with "source?", "link?" Comments.
We have TKP articles posted there all the time. There's always a link to the TKP article, and a comment section for Reddit users to discuss below it.

Bitter put this up in his mailbag and I think he makes a good point.
In the not too distant past the Hokies had some 6-6 regular seasons with victories over FCS teams being needed to get bowl eligible. I for one am not so sure I want the ACC or the NCAA going back and checking those FCS teams to make sure they had enough scholarship players on the roster. Not sure too many people even knew this was a rule before the guy on Reddit dug into it.

I saw where the FCS school provides the numbers to the FBS school and its one of those things where it's taken at face value. Tough for one school to really go through and audit another one
except in the past the ncaa has punished other schools a la usf in 2003, I have a feeling if we violated it, it would have been enforced. I do think certain schools get preferential treatment

Apparently the Reddit source didn't count academic scholarships, so apparently they did qualify PER ESPN.
fsus reply was "this is how we interpert the rule" in no way and in no place is this written into the rules at all
Tbf, they said it was how it HAS been interpreted in the past. So there is precedence for their interpretation. At least that's what they claim.
