One of my favorite parts of bowl season is checking out the swag the players get. The 2017 list is up here.
Looks like our boys are getting a $400 Best Buy shopping trip and a Timely Watch Co. watch. I believe this is pretty similar to what the Camping World Bowl has done in the past. If you remember, Antone Exum gifted his to a family in 2012 before Puntmageddon. #UtProsim
If we'd have landed in the TaxSlayer Bowl they would've gotten a gift suite and fossil watch. Not a bad haul either.
Some other highlights include the Cactus Bowl giving Yeti coolers and tumblers, the Liberty Bowl gives a Bass Pro Shops shopping spree, and the Alamo Bowl is giving a Echo Show, an Amazon Gift Card, and a few other things. The Military Bowl is giving their participants Rock 'Em socks and an Under Armour beanie and backpack. I hope those are nice socks because those gifts kind of suck and I actually feel bad for UVA's players.

Hope UVA gets these Rock Em Socks...
I own these!!
Me too which is the only reason I knew what Rock Em socks even are.
I now have a new Christmas want for my list.
Antone Exum is such a great guy.
My sister and I actually went to high school with Antone and his sister. Guys been top class since high school. Some summers he holds a football camp for kids back at Deep Run HS and invited guys like Tyrod, David Wilson, and other players with the money going towards charity. He's a walking definition of Ut Prosim.
My favorite bowl gift is always "a football."
Not that any gift is bad, but am I wrong in thinking bowls have gotten a lot less giving over the years?
Didn't the Orange Bowl here a few years back give out xbox's or ps3s? I just remember the BCS bowls being pretty over the top awesome lol
I thought BCS tiered bowls usually had gift suites....which were pretty fucking sweet.
Two of my friends were managers on the team on 2004 when we went to the sugar bowl. I can assure you that the BCS bowls loaded them up and not with cheap stuff.
Yup. Sugar bowl 2011 was a Gift Suite. You had a set amount of points (something like 11 if I recall) and you were given a catalog. Each item in the catalog had a point designation. A lot of people took home La-Z-Boys that year.
Ohhh...see I didn't understand the whole suite thing was a thing. I just remember reading everything that they could get was everything they did get. That being said...how the hell would they get most of these back?
The same way that Amazon delivers across the country.
This thread could be renamed to "Highlander learns how things work"
Pretty sure the $400 gift card can buy a PS4, plus more.
Maximum allowed by NCAA is $550. So $400 shopping gift card at Best buy, plus other trinkets probably gets close to maximum.
I think our players should get Campers?
They don't get campers but have to stay at Camping World.
Upscale WVU neighborhood. Don't see sofas.
They burned them all. On Sept 3 actually.
vtnerf, like the golf pants..
(That's the 18th at the Old Course as well!)
Funny story about them. Bought them well before the trip. Had them in mind as soon as I knew I was going. Played the Jubilee and Kingsbarns leading up to the Old. Go to breakfast and all I'm getting is grief from my wife, but I persevered. We get to the 7th hole and I hear "Hey VTNerf! LOVE the pants mate!" I'm thinking to myself I'm 5000 miles away from home. The only people I know are in my group. Who in the world is yelling at me??? It was the caddie from the first day, that looped for the couple of guys I was paired up with. Jamie was caddieing for another group on the shared green and made a point to remember my name, and compliment the pants. I immediately looked at the wife and gave her a wry smile. It made the day that much more special.
Good story. Golf is a great sport to wear "outside the box" clothes. Those are definitely Daly-esque!! I have not made the trip across the pond to play. On the bucket list, however.
What I learned from this is that vtnerf wears his golf pants multiple times before washing.
For the record, never wore them before the round at St Andrews. That was the maiden voyage!
(And washed when we arrived stateside.)
And the headcovers were (ARE) spectacular Hokie colors! (Not taken over there, but you get the idea...)

Those are gorgeous. Did you get them there?
Made them myself actually.
Unfortunately we are out of business. My production department quit on me. She was bored with it.
I couldn't find VT covers I liked, so made my own.
That's impressive. I've got a cheap one from eBay for my hybrid. I'm pretty set on my Quail Hollow PGA Championship driver cover and my Daphne Husky headcover though. Would be nice to upgrade my o-works cover. I'll have to find a VT one now.
Still better than hair dryers from the Sun Bowl
The New Mexico Bowl is giving out a fidget spinner? Could that be the lamest bowl game swag item ever?
Not if it's like this:
Wired - The Serious Physics Behind a Double Pendulum Spinner
I had one, until I let one of my daughters play with it. =_^(
Edit: Found it, because I know you guys were on the edge of your computer chairs. In a pants pocket. Mine. #yesiblamedmydaughter #inmydefenseshelosesstuffallthetime
Do walk ons and non-scholarship players get the bowl gifts also? If not I'd feel cheated because they work and practice just as hard.
I think if you're on the bowl roster you get the swag.
They are allowed to give gifts to up to 125 people, so there is room in the bowl rules for them to receive.
Yup. Even Student managers were always included in that number when Beamer was here. It sure how it is now.
How about players who choose not to play so they won't get hurt?
Not sure. Never happened while I was there. It probably depends on the coaching/admin staff.
So who's gonna be the dumbass that steals shit this year
via GIPHY
Someone would have to get caught trying to steal from Camping World fir it to be the same.../s
Hard to top shoplifting in China.
Good thing there are no bowl games in North Korea.
I prefer Timex with a velcro strap. Just sayin.
"It takes a lickin"....."
Quick Lane Bowl participants get a fathead. Of themselves.
That's pretty freaking cool.
I wonder if they're giving Cutcliffe a fathead. If so I kinda want one.
I want to see what they do for the long snapper.
Pretty sure Colton Taylor wouldn't mind a fathead of downing a punt at the 1. I vaguely recall a long snapper, maybe it was St Germaine??? going nuts for downing a punt at the 1 back in 08 or 09
Straight outta 1996, yo.
I actually have my old Fossil watch from 1999. If I could find a band/strap for it, I'd still wear it to this day.
I have one an ex-girlfriend gave me for Christmas about 15 years ago. I still wear it daily.
I have one my two oldest kids gave me on this day over 20 years ago, which I also still wear daily. It's a prized possession.
I was watching the Dollar General Bowl last night and wondered if the bowl gift was a shopping spree at Dollar General.
Snapchat was lit last night. Looked like the guys had a welcoming party thanks to Camping World. . DJ, basketball pop a shot, nascar racing , VR games and a barber to freshen them up.
Food was top notch and the hotel has a massive pool w/ lazy river.
Do we know where the team is staying/practicing?
Yeti coolers are pretty legit as are their tumblers. Those are pretty good gifts.
One the best products I have found that truly does what it says it does very well.
You have to figure a cooler is pretty good if people worship it like they do with Yetis.
ARBITRARY FACT: I just ate 9 slices of bacon.
THAT'S the gift that keeps giving!!!
...Clark!
Only 9?!
Now this is a bowl gift.
since in Orlando they've been to dave and busters, universal studios, and Andretti race world. that's a pretty sweet deal in itself. atleast theyre having some fun. lucky to have landed a bowl game in a city with plenty to do (and not get in trouble) vs the Shreveport's of the world haha.
