Former Hokies' offensive coordinator and assistant Bryan Stinespring leaves JMU for Maryland.
At Maryland, Stinespring will replace Tyler Bowen, who accepted a position at Penn State, where he had worked previously.
Stinespring was contacted by Maryland shortly after Christmas but put off any discussions until the FCS title game, in which North Dakota State prevailed. JMU was looking to repeat as national champion.
"I was really excited to be at James Madison," said Stinespring, who played for the Dukes in the 1980s. "I wasn't looking to move on."

They have been killing it with recruiting, this doesn't hurt that. They haven't been strong with results, this doesn't help that.
Edit: Originally said this does hurt that because I'm an impatient idiot. Meant to say that it does not hurt Maryland's recruiting as he is definitely (or at least was at Tech) a strong recruiter.

Stiney's strength has always been in recruiting. It's one of the main reasons he was kept around as long as he was here, despite the mediocre on field product.
And he was an above average Coach before he became our OC. I see this as a great hire for Maryland.
This still won't better their position in the B1G10 though.

Stiney was a solid OL coach. Our mistake is when we brought Newsome in to get Tyrod, we should have kept Stiney at OL coach and have Newsome coach TEs.
What is the connection between Tyrod and Newsome?
Newsome and Tyrods dad we're friends (former teammates?).
We hired Newsome to assure we would get Tyrod. UVA was trying to hire Newsome at the same time.
And so began the downhill slide of our offensive line.

Best of luck to the guy. Still think of him as a Hokie. Perhaps some ups and downs, but he lived and breathed this university and football program.

He would actually probably be a better head coach than anything else, provided he got a stellar group of coordinators/assistants.
Same argument was made about Mike London.
