INDIVIDUAL SEATS COMING IN KENAN STADIUM
Apparently the front row of the upper deck is going to be some of the most badass dangerous seats in sports.
$6m renovation to Kenan this spring and summer with all funds going towards replacing the bleachers with individual seats. For anyone who has ever attended a game in that venue, this has to be a welcome sight, because those bleachers were the worst.
Yes, that bad. Seriously, I can't remember a game in there when I didn't come away with bruised shins. So yay, they're gone!
Oh, and it will also reduce the stadium capacity from 62,890 to 51,000, so it might make tickets a little more difficult to come by in future years.

I find it hilarious that they are lowering capacity by 11k and still won't be able to sell out games. Hopefully those seats dispense chardonnay and Gouda and are hurricane rated for those who do show up.
In 2016 they averaged 50,250 per game
In 2015 they averaged 49,643 per game
Shrinking the stadium to 51,000 makes sense!

I highly doubt those numbers are accurate.
Reducing the capacity of your football stadium, a telltale sign you are not really that serious about football. I hope UNC recruits are taking notice.
We've actually reduced capacity.. so does that mean we aren't that serious?
Not by almost 20% though.
I think we will see more stadiums from around the country follow suit - I think more attention will be focused on quality in-game/in stadium experiences, as attendance across the country has generally declined, and probably will continue.

This makes sense. Reduce the capacity but provide more incentive to get butts in the seat.

Yeah, tickets will still be readily available. Been to three games there ( two tech, one UL in 2011...don't look up what game I missed to go to that one) and all three times it was shit crowds*.
*I can give the hurricane game a pass.

My shins thank them for the decision. I think that might have been the most uncomfortable seats in the ACC that I have been to.
On a related note - has there been a motion to rename that place Lane Stadium South yet? Since we've already got a Lane Stadium North in Cville, it would be fitting to expand southward as well.
That title may also reside in Durham.
I thought we already renamed Wallace Wade to Land Stadium South.

I may have to reconsider my personal boycott of attending games at UNC now. Those seats where atrocious. Also, the stated capacity might have been 61k, but there's no humanly way possible to fit 61,000 people into that stadium with those terrible seats they had.
That is because the theoretical seat portion was about 15 inches wide.
I went to the hurricane game and stood the whole time. Didn't bang my shins but I also only paid 17 dollars for a ticket that was like 15 rows from the benches so I don't know if I got the shin-banging experience.
Same here. My only experience with Kenan was the hurricane came and I didn't have any problems with my shins, other than the fact that they were wet.
