I know I can't be the only one checking 5 times a day to see if Tremaine Edmunds has decided to declare or not. Is it really possible he stays knowing he'd be a first rounder THIS year?

I think he's got until the 15th to declare. The longer it drags out, I'd say the better it is for VT since it probably means he's really, really mulling it over. However, I still think he goes. You can always come back to school. You can't always make a few million dollars in a few years.
I agree with the statement but it's also contradictory to Ricky's perspective of you can always go to the NFL but you only get 4 years of college
I'm with Ricky, there's a HUGE difference between the experience of being in college with your peers, aged 18-22/23 and coming back to finish your degree at age 33 as a full-on adult. There's college and then there's getting a degree. The experiences don't always overlap.
There is also an even bigger difference between the money Ricky is going to get and the money Tremaine is going to get. He can live the college experience with the baddest chicks in his NFL city every night if he wants to with first round kinda money.

I think that if he truly got an objective evaluation that places him in the first two rounds, he will declare- as he should. The issue is that we were "told" or it was floating out there that Isiah Ford had a mid second round "grade" and Bucky was in the top "2-3 TEs" on the board, which both proved to be hog wash in reality. Yes, the draft is a crap shoot and there are no guarantees, so hopefully Tremaine gets an honest objective grade in the same universe/zip code to where he could be drafted and makes his decision based on that.
I think Terrell is a big reason he's taking so long to decide. One last chance to play with his brother because what are the odds they get drafted by the same team.
I love Terrell Edmunds- love him to death- he is all Hokie and such as class kid- I have met him in person. Love him. Having said that, he is not an NFL player. I don't see a scenario where he is drafted before a flier in the 7th round or something. If Chuck Clark and Macho Harris are late round picks, Terrell is a free-agent at best, and I wish him well. His brother Trey made an NFL roster after many injuries and not even starting for Maryland at RB- so Terrell certainly can do the same thing and I hope he does.

I'm no expert, and was shocked to see all our guys fall last year, but I think he will be drafted earlier than the 7th and will get a decent chance to make a team.
Interesting that you think that Chuck Clark is a demonstrably better prospect than Terrell Edmunds. Is your opinion based on simply production? I would think size/speed/strength is in Terrell's favor?
In my opinion, I just thought Clark was more productive and more versatile. Again, not pretending to be Gil Brandt here, just an opinion- Terrell doesn't scream NFL draft pick to me- and I love the kid.
Fair enough, Clark certainly seemed to play every possible defensive back position over his time here. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised about Terrell's NFL outlook but I'm obviously not an NFL scout either.
Terrell has played corner (which he could have stayed at if not for a need at safety). He has played Rover and Free as well. Seems pretty versatile to me.
Why are you so sure he has no chance at getting picked up? He has above average measurables, if he comes back he will have four years of production, and has experience at pretty much every position in the secondary.
He is solid in run support, could definitely improve pass defense but that also took a hit when he put on weight, and a great special teams player. I dont think he is anything special in the draft but there are plenty of coaches who love hard working athletic kids like Rell. Speaking of Trey look at his situation. Got picked up by Sean Payton who often drafts kids late who are superb athletes and starts them on special teams. I could easily see Rell being a backup safety who plays special teams.
I'm no more "sure" of it than whatever scouts told Isaiah Ford he would be a mid second round pick. The NFL is the elite of the elite, and safety does not have a tremendously high value as it is. It's simply my opinion. If you look at the recent VT players that have been drafted and where, its not a stretch to say he is a late round/UDFA type kid- and again, I love his game and love him as a person/hokie
I would have to say that what happened last year to Isaiah and Bucky was more of an anomaly than a trend we will see from here on out. I also haven't seen him on teams radars, but usually you don't see anybody beyond third or fourth round guys on teams radar. I think somebody above linked a tweet saying some scouts have been impressed with him.
I can see where you're coming from but I also think if Kyshoen and Chuck found a home then Terrell should as well. Neither of those guys were significantly better players than Terrell if they were at all.
Getting burned a few times doesn't make you not an NFL safety. Terrell will play in the NFL.

Is it possible? i mean sure...Andrew Luck came back after his sophomore year and I believe he was graded to be a first rounder.
He should leave, I would tell him to leave, part of me WANTS him to leave because I can't stand the thought of his career being ruined due to an injury sustained in college before he can make his money.
But if he comes back he instantly jumps up into my favorites hokies of all time list.

Andrew luck was going to be the 1st pick of the draft for the Carolina Panthers. Since he went back to school, the panthers got Cam Newton instead.

I think the only thing that might keep him from declaring is I've heard that Mama Edmunds puts a huge emphasis on education. I don't say this often, but if he's smart (and he can convice Mama) he should go.
Good point, but VT the school isn't going anywhere. Maine can come back at any time to get his degree, hell he can even do it online.
I know that. I'm sure he knows that. I'm sure Mama Edmunds knows that. But how many people go to the NFL and come back to finish their degree? Of course, they can, but how many actually do?
I have no idea. I would be happy if both came back. I also wish both all the success they can get if they go out.
With regards to Terrell, I know most don't think he would be drafted. Remember that the NFL is a very different animal than college football. Because of the limited roster sizes, the ability to play multiple positions has significant value. Kyshone Jarrett was Virginia Tech's worst starting defensive back in coverage pretty much for his entire career. He found a home with the Redskins and was being used at safety AND CORNER (which blew my mind.) Fit is so important. Terrell also already has his degree, so there is little risk in leaving unless he wants a masters degree.
As for Tremaine, I think he ends up being an early second round pick. To me, if you are close to a degree, if you get a signing bonus 3X the cost of tuition, books, room and board, and food for a year, you go. I'd love to have him back, and his experience at linebacker will be incredibly helpful. But, if I were him given every variable we know, I don't know how he doesn't go.
He's from an NFL family, and they probably have a different perspective on going pro early than fans who try theorize the pros & cons (and almost always end up coming back to $$$) of jumping early. Sometimes it's not about the money.
I won't be mad one way or the other. I hope both guys do exactly what makes them happy.
Me either. Tremaine is ready and Terrell will be in the same situation next year. Plus we have players ready to step in at those positions, so they're not screwing over their teammates.

He is going to stay and play again with his brother. He is a borderline first round pick, one more year and he might be a top 15 pick.
I just want to say that I'm happy to see so many VT fans supportive if he wants to go. It reaffirms that we really do want our players to succeed and play at the next level. I don't think the reactions to Jerod leaving last year were motivated by selfishness, at least not the majority. I really feel that we wanted him to have his best chance at success.
Based on what I heard last week, I don't feel good about it. Then again I haven't reached back out to see if a situation has changed.
I'll tell you what though, it'd be a great look for Tech if he went and was selected in the first round.

I personally would love him to stay but ultimately hope he goes and gets drafted in the first two rounds, and I hope Terrell stays one more year and boosts his stock up to 4th-5th round status. I think that might be his ceiling for the draft.
From the outside looking in, we'll never know all the factors involved. I just hope that whatever decision they make will ultimately make them happy and successful. The same goes for any player or any student for that matter.

Deablo played Free and Terrell only switched back to Free because Deablo got injured. He should be back next season so Terrell's projected position was going to be Rover. That means it'll be Hunter or Floyd stepping in for him.
Tremaine first up to replace Tremaine will be Rivers.
Thought this was coming but still....current mood. I don't question these two leaving like I do with Settle, but this still is no bueno.

Wow - an argument could be made that the two best players on defense- Settle and Maine are gone, as well as another top 5 player in Terrell. Throw in Facyson and there are some huge question marks on that side of the ball going into 2018.
