The Key Play - Top Plays of 2017 - SEMIFINALS

Okay everyone, I think we've got a nice bracket set up. I simply assigned a random number to each play and used it to fill out the bracket. No shrills. It's very trendy and eye catching as well.

And here are the links to the plays:

Goal Line Stand vs. Stroman Punt Return vs. Delaware

Fake Punt in Camping World Bowl vs. Houshun Gaines False Start Dance

Steven Peoples' Tip Drill Touchdown vs. Stroman Return vs. UNC

Jackson Run vs. WVU vs. Cam Phillip's TD Catch vs. WVU

Duke Slip n Slides vs. Reggie Floyd Tackle vs. Pitt

Trevon Hill flop vs. UVA vs. Jalen Holston's Spin

Defensive Scores vs. UNC vs. Quin Blanding taking an L

Forced Fumble vs. UVA vs. Sean Savoy TD vs. GT

The link to the voting is here.

If you spot an error let me know. It's entirely possible and likely. I'll open up this round through Wednesday night and hopefully update for the quarterfinals on Thursday.

Happy Voting!

Dang if the false start dance wasn't against the fake punt I'd have it going to the final four

Thank you for making me choose between my great grandchildren

Never Forget #1 Overall Seed UVA 54, #64 UMBC 74

best part about that LOLUVa fumble recovery is the pass play right after.

but, I agree, these pairings are brutal for the first round.

I think anyway you slice it they were going to be hard pairings since these were our top 16 basically. It'd be another thing if we lumped in another 16 not so great plays. I figured going with a random draw would be best instead of trying to seed and stuff.

Arkansas blew a 24-0 lead in the Belk Bowl.

I'm late to the party but shouldn't Stroman's punt return vs Clemson be in the list? :)

I don't care about tough matchups. I'd rather the program have 16 plays that were really hard to choose between anyway

Really excited about the future with Reggie Floyd, all he does is make big plays.

I thought the same thing. For such a young player to have two prominent plays is big.

To me there's no chance Diablo, Hunter, or Ladler starts ahead of Floyd. We'll find a way to get the best guys on the field, and I think that will be Floyd and Deablo but at different safety spots.

Deablo is a free safety, and the only one of the current bunch who has proven he has the range to play there. The logjam will be at rover.

Makes sense. I don't see Ladler pushing for a starting role over Floyd, I think he'll be a key backup or maybe could take Mook's role at nickel eventually. Hunter seems like a natural fit at safety too though, so not sure if anyone will be switching positions or not.

All I can think is two of these plays are Stroman taking punts to the house. Remember when we all used to hold our breath anytime he was back for a punt? He progressed so much as a returner and in coverage. Damn, I'm gonna miss that kid!

If you play it, they will win.

I still held my breath except it was an excitement hold and not a fear hold. Remember when he N E V E R went for a fair catch?

Yep. It was a nice switch from "OMG, here we go" to "OMG, there he goes."

If you play it, they will win.

Whenever he'd catch a punt early on I was so scared about how many low hits around his knees and ankles he was taking that could tear stuff for a minimal field position gain. Glad he was so durable during his learning period.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Now I have to go back and try and find where a few of us were defending his punt returning ability the whole time. It was always there to see.

Wet stuff on the red stuff.

I remember that one well, one of the biggest TKP debates outside of CFP threads I can remember. I was very pro-Stroman from day one.

Here lies It's a Stroman Jersey I Swear, surpassed in life by no one because he intercepted it.

Reminds me of Hosely. I used to say that something dangerous was going to happen, we just didn't know for which team.

There is nothing in the world like Thursday night in Blacksburg!

Same story with Motuapuaka - he ended up being pretty solid after watching him just get constantly pwned as a freshman and sophomore: never in position and getting abused with his arm tackles. He won't go down as one of the great LBs, but he was still a great picture of development for us.

FWIW the next response will be response 69.

nice.

edit: there it is. nice.

Bumping for the final day of voting. I'll close it up tonight. So far there is only one total blow out, and you could probably guess which that one was.

Reggie Floyd's tackle against Pitt was the play of the year IMO. You just don't see that extra, out of this world effort often.

Why oh why did the slip and slides have to be up against the Floyd Tackle.

This is outstanding. Fun post, cant wait for next round!

Goal line stand and Floyd's tackle in the Final.

A decade on TKP and it's been time well spent.

Probably the best two plays but I don't want to see back-to-back plays from the same game in this final. Tryna see Quin Blanding get stiff-armed once again in the final.

TBF, Malleck didn't stiff-arm Blanding, he just ran Blanding over like an overconfident possum.

One of these things doesnt happen without the other...

My only complaint about Reggie's tackle is that it shouldn't have evened happened to begin with. It's an outstanding play, but in the bigger picture it was a negative play. That's why I personally voted for that stiff arm.
