OT: vt.edu email issues

Anyone else having trouble logging in to your vt.edu email account today? Just went to do it from a desktop, and it says I have to reset my password cause mine has expired. When I follow the links to do that, I have to enter my PID (wtf is that?) and my current passphrase (wtf is that too?)

i got an email last week saying they were moving the gsuite behind vt's login page. would now need 2factor authentication and your original vt signin/password. went effective on the 29th.

i'm guessing this is it

I'm having issues too. Kind of stinks because I actually still use this as my personal email.

VT did something with Google Accounts today where you can login using just your PID (username), if your main e-mail was xxxxxx@vt.edu, your PID is xxxxxx. Others lost access, if I can find a help document I'll link it here but don't fret there is a fix somewhere

It has become part of the central authentication system as of this week for some reason. You now have to use two-stage authentication to access your inbox. There are instructions for setting it up somewhere. I will post if I can find them. I did it a while back.

What a savings

Found the email...

Dear alum,

If you use a vt.edu email address and the G Suite (Gmail, Google Drive, Google Docs, etc.) some changes are coming to your account.

Beginning Jan. 29, G Suite for Education applications will move under the Login service, which means you'll log in with your VT Username (PID) and password, and use the 2-Factor Authentication process for additional security.

If you remember your VT Username and password, then you are all set. If you don't remember your username or password, need to set up 2-Factor Authentication, or use other applications to pull email from your vt.edu Gmail account – you'll need to take a few additional steps.

I lost my vt.edu account back when they moved to gmail. I have no idea how to recover it. If anyone could point me in the right direction, please let me know!

Much appreciated folks, I'm 11 years removed from VT but still use my vt.edu email as my primary email address...I will look into this tomorrow and try to get it fixed.

Same thing with me, but I didn't have to change my password. Just re-entered it and it's good to go.

Was a pain, but was able to update everything yesterday. Took about 10-15 minutes or so to get it all sorted.

TBH, I haven't used my VT e-mail account since I graduated. I'd be interested to see what kind of great spam I have in my inbox right now!

Wait, money? Nigerian prince? I'm going to log in now and cash out.

I log into mine once a year to find alot of listservs I never opted out of.

I love a good nap. Sometimes that's all that's getting me out of bed in the morning.

Just got off the phone with the helpdesk they have setup. Waited for about 25 minutes but then it took about 5 minutes to get it squared away.

My vt email never got anything other than porn sent to it. Not sure how that happened....

I remember my PID and password, but it is still asking for 2 factor authentication. However, duo mobile on my phone is asking for me to set up my account using either a barcode or manually set it up with a specific app. Neither of which are viable options. I can't have them call me because I got a new number and the one set up on duo mobile is my old one. Anybody else having similar problems?

I somehow found an option for VT to email me a Duo activation code...which of course I had to send to a different email because I couldn't get on my VT email until after Duo was activated.

There's always a lighthouse. There's always a man. There's always a city.

That would be amazing. Any idea how? I've been on hold 3 different times and lost patience.

It was all such a blur.

...sorry, I just don't remember.

Okay, so since it says my password has expired, evidently I have to change my password...but I can't login, to change it because my password is expired.

Found the page to reset my password, it is asking for my PID and my Virginia Tech ID (a nine digit code issued by VT)...how do I find this out? I'm going to have to call them aren't I? I really don't want to call them.

Man, I wish I knew so many people were having this same issue. I got it figured out yesterday but I don't remember how I did it. I had it text me a code I know that. I for sure was at this screen laughing at me trying to remember my student ID but I can't get back to the screen to tell you what to do next.

Edit: There's a link right under, you can use the last 4 of your social as a replacement.

Edit 2: I've already forgotten the password I set up yesterday.

For fucks sake. Thanks for pointing that out. I got through that, got the one time password texted to me, and now it says "We've authenticated you, you may now reset your password"...I clicked on the little box that says I will comply with VT's rules and what not...then when I go to click the button to reset my password, my curser changes from an arrow to this:

and won't let me click it.

Mine was doing that today too. I'm not sure why usually there are 2 text boxes there. I'm gonna go assume they have some javascript error in the site and it's failing to load the DOM but I've got my own work to do not figure out why their webpage is broken .

Mine was doing that yesterday, but worked today. I'd give it another try.

The 9 digit code is on your Hokie passport, if you still have it
