I really like the depth at Wide Receiver and DE, LB and DT could use a little work.

Just FYI, I saw this article on 247 where it says Dax will be wearing number 4. So much for my 4-8 DT pairings 😥
Well Rivers is 44 so we could have the triple 4 LBs
444 Marlin?
The Chinese word for 4 is close to the word for death so its almost never used in buildings and things...
ALL HAIL THE NEW DEATHBACKERS
I thought that was Japanese.
But I see where you're going with this, sir.
Could be Japanese as well. But trust me it's most definitely Chinese
It is both. Yon/Shi (she sound) pronunciations both can translate to 4. But one kanji character (from China) is also pronounced shi and means death.
That is why yon is "more" preferable in Japanese as 4, more so as superstition. Because the formalized Japanese kanji was adopted from China, it is safe to say China was the origin of the superstition. But again, prevalent in both.
I don't know much Korean, but if their writing systems were influenced by kanji as well, it makes sense the superstition also followed.
A lot of east Asia countries do things to avoid 4 for the same reason. I think China and Japan are the most prevalent but others like South Korea and Singapore go out of there way to not use the number 4 in certain situations.
Upvoted both you and Fernley.
The commonality is striking. I wonder if the "four is death" trope originated in China and then spread to the other countries due to Chinese invasions or occupations...
Not invasion or occupation, but adopted writing systems, in this case outside of military action.
Sorry for nerding out lol. I know Fernley, and probably others have lived over there as well. I spent many years as a child there, have worked for a Japanese company for nearly 20 years and speak it "OK".
But like many of you, with an engineering background, I have to ask "why" for everything.
Itchy knee
Doing a lot of work with Japan recently so just started learning myself.
Basically any country in Asia that has a large Chinese population avoids the number 4, including Singapore, Malaysia, etc. South Korea also avoids it. And as you correctly stated since a lot of Japanese originates from Chinese they also avoid it.
I once lived on the 16th floor of a building that didn't include 4, 13 or 14 so I was essentially on the 13th floor.
Historical linguist here! Nerd out all you want.
I thought the #4 was reserved for kickers? /s
Nah, bro. Punt Returners.
Kickers AND punt returners...

Ah but he caught the punt. Definitely missed that FG.
IIRC Cam Goode wore #4 for a photo shoot when he visited. Would really love for him to be able to sport it and get some early time this year. But even if Dax gets it, we will see plenty of #4 and #8 in the backfield.
FTFY
Chase Mummau - QB
If you have a 100 QBR rating, but your only pass is as a punter, are you a bull rider?
First thing I noticed as well!
It's funny how easily you can forget the redshirt freshmen that aren't so hyped. I had completely forgot about Wheatley at RB. I remember liking what little bit I saw of him in the Spring Game last year.
He has the NFL pedigree
I hear ya. And the guy I am still high on (based on his HS tape) is Zion DeBose. He really seemed to pop on the tape. I am looking forward to seeing him on the field now that he has finished redshirting (and is hopefully still Hilgarting).
Tyjuan has apparently been the most impressive of the freshman D-linemen.
Thanks for compiling the data! Quincy definitely will redshirt as we have all said so Hooker would be the backup (potentially the starter). I think Zion Debose or Proctor/Garbutt will crack the two deep at DE and Terrell Ed. is no longer our SS. Probably will be Deablo at FS and Floyd at SS with Hunter being next guy in and maybe a little Ladler.
Looking for to kicking off spring ball soon!
LB playing time will likely go to all Freshmen and Sophmores
Where is Jack Click?
He's in the 2-deep behind Lawson.
Can't find it now but I thought I read he was graduating.
He is done. IIRC he came out and hugged CJF at the last home game when all of the seniors were introduced pre-game.
Good job, thanks!
{I like how Farley is still our 2nd best WR.....accurate.}
Denmark is no longer on the football team...running track
Ellis is a QB...at least for now
Good for Denmark, appreciated him sticking with us during the transition from coaches. He made one helluva TD catch (vs UNC?).
Source on Denmark? No articles about that and still listed on hokiesports roster
Looking forward to 2018 but THRILLED about the possibilities for 2019.
Edmunds at SS??
Edmunds is listed at safety and it was reported Dax will wear No. 4.
Do you have a link to the original spreadsheet? What you posted is extremely hard to view on mobile.
fixed
Wow lost in all the hand wringing about RB depth after Anthony Grant flipped to FSU instead of us is that we return redshirt junior and I M P A C T P L A Y E R Coleman Fox
Sorry Tre Turner and DJ Crossen but it's still a Stroman jersey
Thought it would be a fun little twist if they had the same number
LT3
Really like that #2 on the Depth Chart at Tight End...
Delkfjslkdjsdfsjlf
Dude is going to be a straight impact player!
It takes a lot of effort to try to write his name, trust me
Yep, every time I see his name, I think of this:
I'm not sure who Delkfjslkdfjsdfsjlf is, but I can't wait to hear Mack Brown try to pronounce his name
So....Deuliliis is from Iceland? makes a bit of sense, I suppose. Isn't that also the name of that volcano that caused widespread air traffic carnage a few years ago? So, yes...he's a future impact player...anyone that can thoroughly confuse spellcheck is OK by me
QP7 <, >, = MV7? Discuss...
=/=
I was no math major, but I believe the numerator and denominator reduce to 1 in this expression
QP5 v QP7
QP7 has a much better ring to it, also his number was 7 in high school
!=
If these heights and weights are accurate then Turner is a string bean right now. He may have lost some weight after the injury but he'll definitely have to put on some serious weight if he's going to play this Fall.
I saw him walking on campus yesterday and he didn't look overly thin to me. Definitely will need to put on strength just like Isaiah did his Freshman year but it was encouraging to see his arm not in a sling and look pretty normal. Hopefully we can earn some PT early, we will need another outside threat if Farley moves to DB, excited for Hazelton though.
Whoa! 20 OL guys! Sure hope we got 4 really good ones that can open holes for the RBs and protect the QB.
I see your 4 and raise you 5.
I'm hoping they move Mook to Corner, he showed good speed when playing safety.
It's in his best interest as well, he won't be playing OLB in the NFL.
I would like to see Floyd at Whip......or RB.
It seems inevitable. Whip/nickle is basically an entry level cornerback position in Bud's defense.
So we aren't DBU then? We're DB Inc. with Boundry being the CEO. Free as project manager, field as senior account executive Rover as (run) support staff, and whip as junior associate?
I think Mcclease starts over Peoples.
Apparently Grimsley is very short...listed a 0'0" at the moment
So he would fit the Patriots perfectly.
Think about how tough he is to tackle! Best slot receiver ever!
