The Lady Hokies were down 48-34 at the half but outscored the Orange 29-5 in the fourth quarter to win their ACC opener 85-70. The Lady Hokies advance to take on #1 seed Louisville next. Taylor Emery led all scorers by putting up 28 points. Aisha Sheppard contributed 19 and Alexis Jean had 11. Regan Magarity had 9 points and 13 rebounds. The Hokies held Syracuse to fewer points each quarter as it started 25, 23, 17, and then 5.

Maybe they can get the monkey off our back about beating Louisville.
Doubtful, Louisville is pretty dang good this year and in women's basketball the difference between the haves and the have nots is about as wide as the Grand Canyon. Asia Durr is the best player the NCAA has seen since Diana Taurasi.

At the very least they should make their third consecutive WNIT. A far cry from the when they made every NCAA or WNIT tournament from 1998 through 2006 but it's a step in the right direction.

I don't want to jinx it, but the ladies are currently up 26-17 over #1 seed and #4 in the country Louisville at the end of the first quarter.

The Ladies went cold shooting in the second quarter, going 5-12 and 1-4 from the line after shooting 7-11 and 7-8 in the first quarter. They've also committed nine turnovers, seven of which were steals, and only have two offensive rebounds despite out-rebounding Louisville 17-16.
Edit: Clarification: At one point VT was 2-8 shooting in the second quarter after opening the game 7-11. They finished the quarter hitting three of their last four shots.

The Ladies shot 4-15 in the third quarter, 0-4 from 3, and 4-6 from the line. At one point Tech had shot 2-13 in the quarter.

Louisville, mean, has committed 18 fouls and everyone on their starting five has at least two fouls.

Can top that. The refs swallowed a whistle with 10s left on an Emory 3 after blowing a tight whistle all day.

I agree, they really came to play today. Outplayed one of the top 5 teams in the country for 3 quarters, and Asia Durr was basically a non-factor. Pretty impressive showing even in a loss.
I was busting butt at work to get out in time to go, but got that messege you can't ignore and had to stay at the office. Feeling really bad about it now, as we were close enough a little push from the crowd could have swung it. Love to get a home NIT game (or one in NC) so I can make it up to the Ladies.
