Sorry if this isn't the place to ask, but I've never actually purchased tickets off the VT Tickets page, but I know for a fact I need 8 for the Notre Dame game this year and wanted to get them all when they go on sale so we can be together.
Does anyone know when individual tickets typically go up for sale?

Based on previous years, I doubt there will be individual tickets for that game.
Probably only season ticket availability through the VT ticket office. You can get publicly available season tickets ($400) with no add-on fees over the summer and then sell the games you don't want.
Or you can get individual tickets on Stubhub. Last year the season tickets made sense with the Clemson game included.

That is probably going to be your best bet. Though going off of what the Clemson game was like last year, you are probably looking at $150 or more for the nosebleed seats. Notre Dame has a huge following and this is their first time to Blacksburg and I can imagine they will buy up a lot of tickets. Not to mention that game has a chance of being a top 15 match up.

I bought the public tickets last year primarily for the Clemson game, but used all but one game. Clemson tickets on Stubhub were in that range. You can see where the tickets are located (East side high and outside, plus south endzone) on the ticket seating chart (highlighted yellow I think).
This year I joined the Hokie Club (obligatory @Hokie Fireman), to improve my seats.
I'd bet that getting 8 of those together might be fairly pricey.
I can guarantee no Notre Dame single game tickets will make it to a public sale. They have by far too large a fan base and are too much of a marquee opponent. If by some chance some do, they won't be available until this fall, generally 1-2 weeks prior to the game.
Here's how ticket sales work
1. Season Ticket Holders given option to renew / Hokie Club members given option to buy season tickets
2. Public given option to buy season tickets
3. Season Ticket Holders / Hokie Club members given option to buy mini plans (usually 3 games)
4. Public given option to buy mini plans (usually 3 games)
5. Season ticket holders / Hokie Club members given option to buy single game tickets
6. Public given option to buy remaining single game tickets ~1-2 weeks prior to the game.
They're doing a Beamerball mobile pass (mini-plan) this year that is $225 for tickets to the ECU, GT, ND, and LOLUVA games. Only issue is that they are mobile-only tickets so I'm not sure you can sell the ones you don't use. But if ND tickets on Stubhub end up being anything close to what the Clemson tickets were, and you are able to make it to any of the other games, it may be something to look into.
I dunno how mobile tickets would work, but I'm assuming it's a scannable barcode on your phone?
Would screen shotting it and texting it to the buyer not work?
FWIW the write-up describing it on hokiesports says you will "receive tickets to one's mobile device in the days prior to each game. These tickets are non-transferable". Not exactly sure how they plan to enforce that, but I don't see why screen shotting and texting wouldn't work.
The only way to enforce it would be to include a name on the ticket and ID the ticket holder. They don't even always check student tickets with a student ID, so I doubt they would check IDs. Even if they did, you would just have to walk to a different person that is not checking IDs.
...and the fact that you've got to trust the person you're buying from isn't 'selling' and sending that screen shot to anyone else.
No way I'd consider buying tickets like that unless they were a personal friend

I am planning to take my kids to their first game at Lane against ECU any suggestions on 5 tickets for that? It's been awhile since I have been so not sure what a decent price is per ticket. Any help is greatly appreciated.
For 5 together your most reliable bet is going to be StubHub. I can't remember if there are limits on individual game tickets for single purchasers. I feel like there isn't but you won't know how many tickets are available until a few weeks before the game.
EDIT: I want to know this too...miiiight have dreamed it. But I swear I thought I got something. Pay no attention to the man behind the phone screen.

I want to give a quick shout-out to the ticketing office for helping me out. I joined the Hokie Club last week but never got a notification about the purchase deadline for football season tickets. I got a reminder on Saturday, but of course the offices were all closed and I was also never sent the login credentials that were associated with my HC account.
So the HC has some issues to still work out, but they told me to call the ticketing office first thing today. They were super helpful and actually made an exception for me to purchase along with the HC member orders. It turns out I should have gotten an email from HC about tickets, but never did. I actually shouldn't have gotten the email I did (which was from Hokie Tickets, not HC), because it was sent with information about the ticketing account I had way back when I was a student, and those credentials were locked out of their system.
So all in all, a bit of a mess with ultimately a happy ending. We're going to be in Lane again next year thanks to the kind folks at Hokie Tickets!
Perhaps you should relay your experience to Whit. Since you are now faculty, you have an opportunity that others may not. I am sure that he frequently hears about this type of issue, but it couldn't hurt for him to hear another example from someone right on campus of how Tech's own infrastructure is making it more difficult than it should be for VT to generate revenue.
Yeah, definitely. I'm going to compose an email to him when I get a chance. This week is nuts and I was not amused at the hoops I had to jump through to find out that there were like three different login credentials associated with my email (and apparently StubHub counts as a fourth, though I had no idea that was an official thing via VT) and it was all hosed. I got stuck in an endless loop of "enter PIN to active your PIN" on Saturday.
Also, if you have a deadline for giving or purchases, don't have all the relevant offices closed on that day. Seriously. The only info I got about this whole process was via the HC on Twitter on Saturday after I had wasted an hour of my time in various online systems. It's not a welcoming experience for a brand new member.
A few years ago (I think March 2015) when I went from student/alumni to faculty member the same thing happened, StubHub and all.
I feel like they should be getting a handle on this if it keeps happening, although we may be isolated cases.

I just joined the Hokie Club last week and want to buy season tickets this year. Can someone give me a quick explanation of the process? I see where new season tickets are going on sale today at 10am. Can I purchase these, or am I too late?
I just had this explained to me earlier. You are too late for HC member seat selection, but you can purchase tickets in the public sale. In mid-June, HC members who purchased tix in the public sale will have a chance for seat assignment, but it will be after everyone else has picked (that process starts in mid-April). It was not 100% clear to me in the "seat assignment" in mid-June if you actually get to pick your seats or if you just find out what's left after the previous HC members choose. I think you get a choice from what is left, but I'm not sure.

That's correct, this is the route I had to go last year after misunderstanding the dates by which I had to sign up. For lower-level members like myself, it ended up really not affecting my options too much, still got what I'd consider prime real estate for my donation level ($100/seat minimum donation)
Also I was able to add a 5th seat (along with an extra $100 for the donation requirement) at this time and got all 5 together. Since priority seat selection would have limited me to 4, I feel like I actually mistakenly came out on top of the whole situation.
Just purchased 3 sets of the 4 Game Mobile Pass tickets.... now I only need like 4 more ND tickets haha
What determines the seat locations?
I read somewhere that they vary every game, so I'm guessing it's random??
I called in, if you buy multiple tickets together, in my case 3, I will have 3 seats together for every game, but they do change locations from game to game.
I'll probably be stuck in the upper South, but I guess it's worth it to have ND and Thursday Night GT guaranteed.
Did the same! Now need to find someone who wants the other 3 games that I can "non-transfer" to for "not money". Wonder how they're going to work out the ticket delivery for these.
They said it's pushed to your phone a day before the game. I would guess there's a barcode or a QR code that they scan. I highly doubt they will check IDs. So as long as you screenshot and send to someone you trust to pay you, I don't see any foreseeable issues.
Man what a mess. Glad I'll never have to deal with any of it as until there's adequate leg room for folks above average in height (ie until I can actually fit in the fucking row without my knees bruising the kidneys of the poor old lady two rows up) they won't get a dime from me for tickets. Unfortunate, yes, but that's my honest assessment. Good luck to all those interested in tickets, I hope it works out.
I'm tall enough to where I gave up on games at Cassell long ago, but Lane doesn't kill me...except for my thunder thighs and powerful ass. Those will get me (and the folks in my row) everytime.
