If you follow Quincy Patterson on Instagram, check out his most recent story. It's a quick video clip of him standing on a scale that reads 252.4(!) lbs. Apparently HH isn't the only Tech QB that's been gaining weight, although I wonder how much of it isn't just a young man enjoying the final few months of mom's cooking before moving out, but who knows? From what I've read, he's never really focused on developing his strength so one could assume there's potential for significant gains to this degree.

That is an awfully large man if he stands 6'4", 252 lbs...and that is b4 a college dietician and strength coach gets a hold of him. Will that be his playing weight? How big is too big, mechanically speaking? I know this is a diff sport, but Tebow was too muscular for his swing, had to drop 15 lbs of mass to get quicker bat speed. I wonder what the VT coaches will do with this kind of size at quarterback. Excited for him, either way!
Well JaMarcus Russell weighed 265 at the combine so I'd say 252 is too big for a freshman but I'm not an expert

Regardless, I'm not too concerned with QP's weight right now. Once he's in the program the coaches will let him know where he needs to be, and QP seems to be mature enough to make it happen.
Really hoping to see him reach his potential and fill this blank down the road...

If college Jared Lorenzen was VT's QB, VT would have a damn good QB. Chunky, but that kid could ball.
He made a name for himself at Kentucky of all places. He would have done well here.
I will never forget the 4 or 5 OT game he played in when I was a freshman at Tech. It was an amazing game, and J-Load had some scramble ability.

That seems too big. I am sure he'll drop some weight once he enrolls and gets in a true strength and conditioning program. I am thinking 230-235 is a good weight.

Football season is my bulk season. I usually go in at a mean 210-215, come out 230....I need to drink less, maybe grill some chicken at tailgates or something. I'm not going to, just saying I need to.
I just cant imagine being that developed at age 18....

Being bombarded by the vitriolic screed of those who live too vicariously through the team on Twitter should not be a part of a college kid's life, and I could do without seeing it here too.
I know there's nothing I can do about it, but that won't stop me from voicing my opinion on it.
In hindsight, I really don't think it's as bad on here as it is out on tweeter or pretty much everywhere else. Also, he ain't a kid no more. He's an adult. If/when he gets drafted to the NFL, he'll be dealing/experiencing it on a much greater scale than anything our fanbase could/would dish out. It prepares and builds character.

From my point of view if I went out there at that age and tanked, knew how bad I tanked, and then had to hear about how bad I tanked from armchair athletes anyway I'd want to hang it up. I have nearly as much respect for our athletes from having to put up with some fans as I do for the actual work they put in.
For me it's more about quantity and context (btw, I agree with you on that last part). It's not always as simple or exclusive as the example you mentioned. It really depends (a significant but not total portion) on the individual and their ability to handle or process the criticisms. On the flip side, what's the ration of fans throwing the vitriol to those with a little more level reaction (while not making excuses &/or overlooking/ignoring the imperfections at the same time)? Whether you like it, disagree with it, it all has been, is and will continue to be a part of sports.
I should make it clear that level headed criticism isn't the problem. What I do have a problem with is unfounded attacks and personal insults.
No, that's fine. I figured that's what you meant. Insults and attacks of a personal nature (to the player and especially to the player's fam) are overkill. The flip side the coin though, when a player comes from a fanbase where they experienced an amount of it, at the next level, it won't come as much of a shock when they have to deal with it at the next level. Again, depending on the individual, it may not hurt as much.

How big was Deshaun Watson during his time at Clemson? 6-4, 230-235? If you want to run the ball in the ACC and compete against the big boys of college football you better be a big boy!! Guys are only getting bigger and faster. QP at 245 will probably be cut and playoff ready in 2-3 years
Deshaun measured 6'2" and 220lb at the combine. QP is a lot bigger.

Cam Newton and Andrew Luck we're both 240+ in college. Those are the two comparisons I've seen for QP the most. I'm not sure how much either of them weighed when they were 18 years old. I don't think QP would be proud of the extra weight if it wasn't muscle that he put in either.
Lol. Where have you seen Luck comps? And you should be weary of anyone giving you Cam/Luck comps for QP. That's just silly.

I don't think I've read Bleacher Report in like 5 years. That place relies on click bait titles, such as the one you posted. The only mention of those two QBs are when Trent Dilfer stated, "He has Luck and Newton qualities." Last I checked that doesn't mean "a cross between" Luck and Newton, it implies for more that was intended. I think what annoys me that you can't get a realistic analysis with such silly comparisons like "a cross between Luck and Cam."
Everyone seems to get compared to a legend. In which case, the comparison doesn't really hold the weight that it should.
Big, strong, athletic kid who can sling the ball and is by all accounts super smart. Cam isn't exactly a scholar, but both those players fall within that vin diagram. No, literally Luck+Newton likely doesn't equal QP, but just his makeup is enough that most people would make that comparison.
That's my point though. There are dozens of high schoolers that fall into that extremely superficial description. It's why you see many of these comparisons to legends, they are easy to make and don't require much thinking. People just like to see their players get the high profile comps.
If "Athletic+throw the ball+smart" equals a comparison of Luck and Newton, then I'm a good comparison to The Rock and Tom Hardy because I'm tall+British.
I am cool with the comparisons to Cam and Luck so long as they are still making those comparisons after QP declares for the draft.
