Michael Vick to be the Offensive Coordinator for the Atlanta AAF team

Vick will be working for Brad Childress, who will be the head coach and the Atlanta team will play their home games at Georgia State.

"I've always had a passion for teaching, a passion for coaching," Vick said at a news conference on Thursday morning in Atlanta. "When Brad called me about this opportunity, I felt like it was obviously something I couldn't pass up."

This seems an extension of his coaching internship with the Kansas City Chiefs and will be fun to watch.

Watching him in those old highlight reels feels like watching D-I guys' hudl highlights from their bad 3A playoff games. The way he could outrun safeties who had an angle is just amazing.

Anybody hoping he ends up as a positions coach at VT?

Lack of experience, negative recruiting because of his past, because if he is bad who is going to fire him from the school he made?

...if he is bad who is going to fire him from the school he his father made?

That didn't stop someone from letting Shane Beamer go....

Not even close to the same situation...
Shane didn't lead VT to a National Championship game and become a #1 overall pick.
And Vick's dad wasn't at VT.

Of course not, but there is a similarity. Beamer is a household name at Tech, and it didn't stop the new regime from letting him go.

The "new regime" didn't let him go. Shane stepped left totally on his own accord.

I mostly believe it. It's mainly about percentages & numbers with me.

I'd wager Shane chose to leave before he could get pushed out. He found a great landing spot. Win-Win for both sides.

Wasn't Shane the long snapper or something on that '99 team?

If Steiney could be an OC, anyone could be an OC.

Nope. Even if I could forgive the whole murdering dogs thing I have a hard time believing he could coach what he did. He was just on another level as an athlete when he was in college so he did a lot of scrambling and improvising. and it seemed mostly instinctual. That actually worked for him a bit in the NFL until he got old and slow, but he never really seemed to grasp basic QB fundamentals and just went on instinct and talent. Of course I am not a film guru just a fan so someone else that is more into the X's and O's could maybe tell me different.

I can imagine no more rewarding a career. And any man who may be asked in this century what he did to make his life worthwhile, I think can respond with a good deal of pride and satisfaction:

This is my take on coaching as well. The guys that could play on instinct and crazy talent don't make good coaches. The guys like Michael Brewer and Bryan Randall that had to study film, take reps, and use their head to make up for their average talent are the ones that make great coaches.

does AAF stand for athletic as f%$k?

No, silly. Then he would be PLAYING in it, not coaching.

The unit of measurement of AF is definitely the greatest creation of millenials
