Haven't seen this posted, surprisingly. (Perhaps it's common knowledge and I'm just out of the loop?) But Buzzketball lands just outside the top ten in NBC's latest preseason top 25.
While it's a bit ridiculous to be talking hoops when football is nearly 100 days away still, this was a pleasant surprise to find in my news feed.

Any and all positivity is welcome here right now.
That's said I feel they've got us a tad higher than I would but I'm all in
Are we a basketball school now?
Why not one first?
I jest.
I do think that trying to excel at more sports has been the most important change from the Weaver era.
If we play up to our potential, we can be as good as a top 5 team any night, we've seen it happen many times. But it's being more consistent against all competition and not putting our tail between our legs after a few bum calls or missing shots.
If Sy can prove to be a good backup for KJ and we can play some bigger ball with KJ/Sy with PJ at the 4, maybe it would help consistency. But the young players also have high potential, and Nolley should be able to get immediate minutes due to his scoring presence.
This year is as good as any to make a run for us, we just have to have things roll our way and get better every game.
Let's pump the breaks just a little bit lol
We just typically choose not to be....
When I read the headline I assumed it said we were just outside of the Top 25 and that seemed legit. I start reading the article and see we are 11 and I actually got a few sweats thinking how the hell are we going to live up to that. Then I read about our team and was reminded of the badassery that Buzz has built in Blacksburg and am now really looking forward to basketball season.
Hype Train gonna be in the station for several months yet, perfect time to hop on board
Quick! Somebody photoshop Buzz's face onto the hype train GIF.
All aboard!!
Interesting, with that much hype on Buzz hopefully he reveals somemore glorious sweaters...
They must have the inside scoop that Buzz will be shaving his head again.
I've followed Jon Rothstein from CBS Sports a lot, and he has been very high on Tech since Buzz got here.
He has us at number 9 pre season top 25.
He also believes Ty Outlaw will be a player that can help us out big time. This by far should be Buzz Williams best team he has had at Virginia Tech
Sooooooooo... any more news on the rumors of Ty Outlaw transferring?
I'd assume not. Hope not, definitely can be a veteran on this team with his sharpshooter tendencies. I would say if he hasn't announced now then he probably isn't transferring. We also have one scholarship to fill for this upcoming season, and if he did transfer filling both of those at this stage in recruiting would be near impossible.
From all I've heard since the rumors started, he's not transferring. There is some tension, but unless things take a turn for the worst smart money is on Ty to finish his career in Blacksburg.
Lol we won't finish the season in the top 15
I bet you're fun at parties
I'm the eternal pessimist
I was worried that could be the case.
No, we should be glad that's the case.
So now that we are a big dog where are all the 5*'s? /s
In reality it is crazy how different the fan expectations are between football and B-ball. I would be thrilled to finish in the top 16 in Hoops.
I'm happy when we finish top 16 in football.
The thing is with Buzz's system I dont think we need 5 5*s on the team to compete with the "big dogs." I think thats another reason why fan expectations may be higher than footballs. We've seen that we can compete with Duke and UVA and UNC this past year. Its all about which team shows up and if we have the consistency to stay in the top 25 or even top 15.
I want to be a perennial top 25 team in football, basketball and baseball. I'd like the women's basketball and softball teams to be there or near there on a regular basis. I hope for more, and if we hang around the top, we'll occasionally get our chances, but I'll settle (?) for that kind of consistency as a program.
Being top 25 in multiple sports is how you build a national brand 101
KBJ at the post
5 at the point
Hill, NAW, Clarke on the wings
Sy, Horne, Nolley, Outlaw, and Bede off the bench
Kabongo and McAllister rounding out the depth
I like this
From what I have seen from Nolley, if Hill doesn't step it up at the start of the season then Nolley could push for a starting spot. I sure hope Hill can find his stroke with it being his senior season.
I agree. Nolley is going to get a lot of minutes next season. He could very well end up in the starting five at some point.
Agreed. I would go:
PG: Robinson (30 mins), Bede (10)
Wing: NAW (30), Hill (10)
Wing: Nolley (20), Hill (10), Clarke (10)
Wing: Clarke (20), Outlaw (10), Horne (10)
Post: KJB (30), Sy (10)
Buzz could also bring Clarke off the bench like he did this year. Start either Nolley or Outlaw if he wants to go "big" of sorts.
UVA at #7. UMBC unranked.
Sidenote: UVA becomes the first 1-seed to lose to a 16-seed and be ranked preseason #7 the following year by NBC Sports.
it's the gift that keeps on giving...
Kind of like when the moved up to number 1 when they best us...
