Hokie head man Justin Fuente handed the keys to his offense to then-redshirt freshman Josh Jackson last year, after Jerod Evans unexpectedly declared for the draft. Fuente has a long history of rolling with young QBs and taking some lumps, only to see significant leaps once the signal-caller is a seasoned vet. That makes 2018 a year of reckoning for ACC opponents that enjoyed playing a young Jackson in 2017.

FSU lost a ton of guys in their front 7. Stopping Akers though... that will be really tough especially if the QB can keep the 8th man in the box occupied. If the offense doesn't score 28, I think there will be long odds. They should be much better on offense than last war.
Akers vs first-time starters at mike & backer scares the hell out of me. I've already accepted that they will break some big runs. Conversely, I think getting them early means Bud will have some tricks to confuse and steal a turnover or two from a team playing in a vastly new-to-them system for the very first time.
And totally agree that if we don't hit 28 we don't have much of a shot.

Thanks for sharing. I enjoyed the write-up. Makes me a little nervous hearing about their defensive scheme. Sounds like they will dare us to beat them over the top, which wasn't a strength of ours last year. Here's to hoping for an improved JJ, and a new playmaker in Hazleton.
Until we show we can do it, I think every team will be doing that. I'm optimistic at least one receiver breaks out in a big way this year though. And assuming Notre Dame's Wimbush keeps his job, that game will be an ugly, low scoring, slug-fest.

I think this is a case where not televising the spring game hurts. Florida State has storylines and film you can point to to illustrate your case. We haven't really talked about ourselves at all, and basically have just a returning qb and the dependably excellent Bud, but nothing new to showcase
I'm not a betting man, but, if I was, I'd take Cam Akers vs. a paper-thin DT rotation and two first-time starters at LB 7 days a week.
