It was a four-star Friday night for Virginia Tech. Cornerback Jeremy Webb announced his commitment to the Hokies while many were at holiday parties or studying for finals recovering from too much reading day partying.

The hot commodity corner opted for Tech over offers from West Virginia, Tennessee, and Nebraska among other schools. With seniors Greg Stroman and Brandon Facyson set to play their final game in maroon and orange against Oklahoma State, and the possible early departure of Adonis Alexander, Tech needed to bolster its depth at cornerback. The 247Sports Composite 4-star ASA College (JUCO) product aids that effort. At 6-3 and armed with quick hips, Webb is in the mold of rangy corners who can press and cover deep routes (fades).
"They have a history with long corners, long DBs period in the secondary," Webb told The Key Play in November after his official visit. "They just said I'm a great fit, I can play, I can run, and I'm mature. They can bring in a mature guy right away to help some of the other guys out that are in the secondary. Just being a leader on and off the field, they just really believe in my style of play."
"It just felt right," the 6-foot-3, 195-pound Webb said. "They showed me love from the beginning. I have a great relationship with all the coaches. When I took my (official) visit, they really made me feel like a priority. They really made me feel at home. For me, it was kind of like a no-brainer."
He discussed his decision with Brian Dohn of 247Sports.
He said Virginia Tech's reputation in developing defensive backs was important.
"It definitely played a part," Webb said. "I'm trying to play at the next level. I just wanted to be coached by the best coaches that I felt like put me in the best position to go play at the next level. They explained to me all the things I need to get there."
Webb committed to Hokies coach Justin Fuente, who was in a car with defensive coordinator Bud Foster.
"It was a great feeling to get this process done and out of the way," Webb said. "He was very excited. He was driving with coach Foster and they were yelling. They were excited for me and excited for the program."

Comments
Excited to have him choose us. Welcome to Hokie Nation!
Love the way Fuente approaches recruiting. If he can develop one of these quarterbacks into a top NFL prospect, on the field results will help drive the recruiting and things could change in Blacksburg quickly.
Yep!
I believe they already have! Hell we have O linemen that actually want to play here!
Welcome aboard!
Road tripping with Bud and CJF sounds like an awesome time.
Wonder what that playlist looks like?
But I thought Bud was going to aTm /s
Maybe the roadtrip destination was an ATM (the kind where you get cash). /s
It would be, but there's not that much extra room in their vehicle.
Something like this

Fuente and Bud driving through Charlottesville like:
If Bud isn't cruising around town with Fuente riding shotty in an old Trans Am named "The Red Dragon," I will be severely disappointed.
Word on the street is he took the restrictor plate off of it. Keep that in the down low though... it's not exactly street legal.
Fuente & Co. road tripping to recruiting visits like
To add on to the CJF and Bud comments, I absolutely love the mental image of them driving down 81 yelling into the phone together as this kid commits. So glad we have both of them and Webb now, too!
Webb coming to Blacksburg puts to rest a lot of concerns i had about Stroman and Facyson leaving. Really love his ready to demonstrate upperclassman leadership attitude.
Best player of the class, imo. Huge get.
How many years of eligibility does he have left?
Uno? Dos? Tres?!?!?!
Has three years to play two more football seasons.

Pardon this non-trolling off-season thread bump...
Is Webb scheduled to enroll this summer? I thought he would have enrolled at the start of Spring ball as most JUCOs do but there's still no sign of him on HokieSports. Sorry if I missed this somewhere.
His JUCO school had a weird timeline. He is all set to enroll this summer session and has been training in Miami at same place a bunch of NFL guys do.
Wow - he's paying to train?
https://bommaritoperformance.com
Brandon Flowers trains there.
Speaking of Brandon Flowers, he's graduating and Hokie Sports did a 2 part interview with him.
http://www.roanoke.com/hokies/sports/football/ten-years-after-leaving-fo...
Very impressive client list that is a who's who of professional sports. Looks like Tyrod trains there, too.
https://bommaritoperformance.com/pro/alumni/#nfl-alumni
He is at school.
Can we put a moratorium on recruiting thread revivals for a while? Seriously, the stress level has been like watching the Hokies playing with a 4th quarter 6-point lead recently.
So you didn't want to know he arrived on campus?
Hearing rumors today that we're losing Webb for the season due to injury - anyone have info?
what
Still digging - so far I've only seen a couple of mentions on it on Twitter. Will post sauces- but now, only rumors as far as I can tell.
heard the same rumor. where theres smoke..... welp you know the rest.... paging WR caleb Farley
I blame LAHokie
It's being talked about on 247. Chris Coleman also mentioned on the TSL Subscriber Board that he had heard the same Tuesday night, and further info in the thread states that it happened in his very first
drillworkout. And just like that.....he's gone. *sigh*
Edit: It was his first workout, not drill. Fixed.
His first drill? Damn, this kid has my kind of luck.
What drills? Isn't this a no coaches contact portion of the year for players and on the field coaches and organized drills?
You may be right. I looked at the thread again, and it said "workout". I'll correct the original post.
Sorry just trying to deny it in my own way.
HE JUST GOT HERE!
Rumor has it, he slipped walking off the bus /s
Like RGIII walking into the Browns' clubhouse.
Little did he know when we talked about giving him the red shirt, we meant it more in the Star Trek variety.
I did a legit spit take upon reading this.
Have a leg, sir. This deserves more!
Why don't we do new threads for stuff like this. This has absolutely nothing to do with his commitment to Virginia Tech.
I didn't create a thread for it because it was just rumors with no hard source yet. Plus, this thread was active just a few days ago when he landed in Blacksburg.
Again, to everyone, please start a new thread. If you don't feel comfortable starting a thread because it's a rumor, then don't start it. Regardless if it's a thread or a comment, it's still on TKP being discussed. At least in a thread, it's relevant to the topic and not something from months ago.
I know we don't have an official policy on it so I went with my gut in not posting the tweets.
Would it be acceptable to start a thread to discuss?
I think we would need a new thread to discuss the validity of creating another new thread to discuss the policy of creating new threads for major updates on recruits/coaches.
I always say, consider the source, if it's coming from a reputable outlet, person, or entity who has broken news before or is close to the program, go for it. If it's random Twitter user who heard it from someone, who heard it from someone, who heard it from someone else, then reconsider.
And now I know - Thanks Joe!
because these are the type of things we want to bury deep down inside our TKP bag of emotions.
So, how does this work? You have a bag of emotions that you release in order to initiate a Total Party Kill?
;^)
I agree. I didn't even know there were concerns about injuries for anyone until a friend texted me this morning and directed me to this thread. I hadn't been looking at it with all the new comments because I already knew Webb had committed...
Soooo after graduating both starting corners we're probably losing the 2 guys who were projected to be the new starting corners this year...
Insert "not great Bob" gif here
Moving Farley to CB for spring practice is looking smarter and smarter every day.
Here's to hoping that Waller is a baller
Don't forget DJ Crossen!
yeah but that doesn't rhyme
I'm hoping Crossen plays like a boss in [Blacksburg]
With the [Blacksburg] at the end all I could think of was
This needs more legs.
HAHA! I've been re-watching Parks and Rec recently and just watched this episode a couple of days ago. Pure gold.
Leg for you!
Webb gone for season coupled with Mook and Alexander likely out against FSU (possibly due to grades)...
Source? I haven't seen anything definitive on Webb anywhere else yet.
Originally mentioned on 247 forums, Chris Coleman posted on the TSL Subscriber Board that he'd heard that as well.
Edit: I was referring to Webb's injury, not about Mook and Alexander.
I'm sure the beat writers will have a story about it by October.
I fking hate football.
...I'm just overreacting yall, but seriously.
Absolutely horrible news, but Mook and Alexander being out for one game is 100000000000x better than Mook and Alexander getting kicked off the team which is what I was most afraid of.
I would expect it to be more than just FSU for both. Not sure completely on the situation in regards to Mook, but definitely with Alexander, only missing FSU would be a huge surprise from reading the tea leaves on several sites.
But they were already held out of the spring game....doesn't that count?
Only when you play for FSU.
Theres a username on this site id love to ask for comment but that little voice in the back of my head says to shut up and keep quiet.
I must have missed this, but why is Mook out?
So are we going to have sufficient warm bodies to line up at corner for us? Geez we can't catch a break. Awful to say, but I'm fairly close to mentally checking out for this upcoming season already.
It will definitely be tight. CZY (a mod over on 247) said he might be more worried about our DB depth than DT
Well that would be silly.
I'm with you. Not much to look forward to.
Jesus are y'all serious rn? If there's one position we've effectively coached and recruited over the last 10+ years it's DB. Buuut even if we did lose depth to where it costs us badly on the field, we probably lose Florida State then get three pretty easy games to work it out then open the ACC with (albeit improved) Duke.
Whatever issues we got there's talent and time to fix it, and if we drop FSU so what? One loss vs a top 25 team doesn't make or break a season and did you really expect to win the natty?
I'm 100% serious. We have no consistent production coming back on offense and have major holes to fill on defense. This is a young team...and I'm not very optimistic about our chances to put together a solid season. Hopefully Fuente can pull this roster together and shape them into something, but this is the weakest team we've had in a while.
Edit - I'll explain a little more since my opinion is getting downvoted. For the first time in a long while, I don't see this team as having any proven playmakers...that's why the pessimism. Nobody on the team has ever been named to an All-ACC team...in fact, I went back and did the research and found out that this is the first time since we've joined the ACC that we have no returning All-ACC performers. I know this won't format well, but here's a list of every returning All-conference player we've had since 2005 (i.e. 2004 All-ACC team).
2018 0
2017 4 Tre.Edmunds (2), Motu (3), Stroman (3), Slye (3)
2016 3 Ford (1), McMillian (3), Hodges (3)
2015 5 Ke.Fuller (1), Nicolas (2), Hodges (3), Ekanem (3), Marshall (3)
2014 4 Ke.Fuller (2), Hughes (2), Maddy (3), Facyson (3)
2013 4 Tyler (1), Gayle (2), Exum (2), Ky.Fuller (3)
2012 7* Thomas (2), Gayle (2), Ky.Fuller (2), Collins (H), Exum (H), Journell (H), B.Taylor (H)
2011 5* Hosley (1), DeChristopher (2), Brooks (2), Wilson (2), B.Taylor (2)
2010 4* R.Williams (1), DeChristopher (H), Warren (H), Carmichael (H)
2009 3* Evans (2), Render (2), Worilds (2)
2008 1* Harris (1)
2007 6* Ore(1), D.Brown (2), V.Hall (1), X.Adibi (2), Flowers (1), Royal (2)
2006 2* Hall(2), Pace (H)
2005 7* Tapp (1), J.Williams (1), Pace (1), King (2), Martin (H), Montgomery (H), Lewis (H)
The All-Conference team is in parenthesis...note that before 2013, there was no third team All-ACC...just Honorable mention.
Maybe we'll be like the 2008 team...with just one returning "proven" playmaker, that team won the ACC behind a freshman running for 1200 years along with the top three receivers being freshmen. Who knows?
I think most casual fans take for granted the last two years that Fuente was able to put together solid seasons. That included getting QB transfer talent and leveraging those really good/great players we did have. there is almost always a down year when there is a HC change. This may be that year. If it is, it's going to suck, but I will be looking to the response to the down year. That's where Fuente proves he has what it takes.
Though I loathe the ritualistic meltdown on the boards during a season like that.
For both of y'all.
Mostly a tongue in cheek comment, but not a lot of great news lately. Of course it will be exciting once the season is here, but in a year where we really need some momentum on the field, losing high-caliber and experienced players at a critical and already thin position isn't a good start.
How I currently feel about our DB depth

This Offseason.....
More like...
I really hate to see guys get hurt, and I hope they can come back stronger. But this woe is me attitude has to go, next man up. Got a feeling some guys who have been overlooked will be ready. Let's go Hokies!
this. Every scholarship player on the roster was deemed worthy by the coaches to be invited to play for us. Sure, only about 1/3 will work out, but don't count your rotten eggs until you know they were supposed to have hatched (that sounded better in my head).
It must've sounded better in your head because I sure as hell don't know what that means. But I got a good chuckle out of it, and that's why I love TKP. Gave you a leg too.
Of course, I wasn't chuckling last week.
It's like the opposite of "don't count your chickens before they've hatched." I dunno. Words are hard.
Exactly. Next man up. Expect some bumps in the road for young players getting early reps, but those early reps can be an avenue to grow and learn and become a leader on the team. Just look at how much Motuapuaka developed from when he was starting games as a freshman.
Can anyone enlighten me what happened with AA and Mook. I haven't seen any official report. I am really not interested in something someone said over on some board. Substance would be nice.
So I can tell you that neither player was playing in or even on sidelines for the spring game.
There are no official reports about either of them, nor about Webb. Enlightenment not possible.
I would avoid lengthy threads on message boards then. If you want substance and facts, wait for the beat writers to start talking about it. If you want wild speculation, out-sized overreaction, and unchecked rumors, 6 month old threads on a fan-site is the place to be.
well all I was hoping for is someone to post some kind of link that backs up non-substance posts like "webb is gone for the season." Those are just annoying. Usually people on here put some info/link on here but there are always some who just say very vague things without any substance.
*EDIT* Moved to DB Depth Thread
