Obviously this will be wildly speculative since we have no idea how the gifts and talents these young men possess will develop over the next few years. But it is the offseason, and We The People of TKP are fantastically overreactive in both creating hype and embracing a narrative of gloom and doom. So lets have a little fun here and discuss which of the 2018 recruit(s) you think will exceed expectations and prove to have been an underrated recruit.
By the way, this could be the top recruit in the class if you think he was downplayed or undervalued in some way during the recruiting cycle.
I have two:

I think that because of his size (listed at 6'0, but that is being quite generous), he didn't get the offers he would have otherwise gotten. He is 'twitchy', and has a great motor. He does have a tendency to play upright, so that will need to change if he wants to be successful at VT. But I think he's going to be really good in the VT system!

I really like Caleb's film. A good combination of size and speed. He isn't afraid to run between the tackles, and has enough speed, at least at the high school level, to get to the edge. He seems to be able to read his blockers well, something VT backs have struggled with since Fuente arrived to town. To top it off, he isn't afraid to block. I really like this kid and think he is grossly underrated.

Idk who but I want to see a true freshman step up in the secondary. Maybe it's Waller, maybe it's Crossen, but I hope we get another Fascyson situation.
I mean i'd have to go with QP and Tre. If they outplay their rankings, then we're talking about All-Time Tech greats and possible program changers which I think they have a shot at.
QP as in the QB? Why would you think he is going to out-perform his rankings? I doubt he even plays.
The OP did talk about how they would develop in the next few years. Just sayin'.

Definetly a vote here for John Harris. Looks like a multi year starter to me.
My second vote would go to Darryle Simmons. This looks like the Cam Phillips of the group. We may be more excited about Tre Turner's gifts or DeJuan Ellis quickness or James Mitchell's size, but we might look back 4 years from now and Simmons be in the top 5 in every receiving category and go, "What, how did that happen?" He looks polished, solid skills across the board, could get early PT.
If I'm allowed a third and fourth vote, it would go to Culver and Tenuta. Culver has a good OL attitude and I think he's going to be a starter. Tenuta is a bit of a hedge as one of our lower ranked recruits, but I think he is a contributor. It may take some time, but he looks like a better Parker Osterloh. Guy that is still around in his 4th or 5th year and moves into a starting position and is pretty good.
I like Artis and Ellis a lot as well.
