More Attrition, maybe we keep the spots open for more 2019 Committs

Hokies, Local Soccer, AFC Ajax, Ravens

someone correct me if I'm wrong here, but aren't we normally up against the new signee limit (25 per year, with loopholes) rather than the team limit of 85 scholarships? There's always so much attrition that the 85 tends to be a moot point come signing day.

Depends on the season. Fuente's first two years, that was the case. This year, we're up against the 85 limit.

I'm going to say I think they took a few players (ala Glaze) they shouldn't have taken, just to fill out rosters and make the classes seem better.

What's the timeline for the 85 total scholarship limit, does it go by academic year?
The news about Hopple (and others) is pretty close to the season and academic year. Can those scholarships go towards other players on this year's team?

Is there any advantage to not using all 85 scholarships during the fall season to go towards incoming freshman who enroll early in the spring?

If there are any "leftover" (aka "vacant") schollys they will likely offer them (as a single-year deal) to walk-ons that earn them. And then they'll be available again next spring.

But yeah, they don't roll over like unused cell phone minutes. And incoming early 2019 enrollees wouldn't count towards the 2018 limit, if I'm not mistaken...

Wait. Am I mistaken?

the numbers don’t lie and they spell disaster

I believe you are indeed mistaken
