Fuente having players over for dinner

He tweeted of the seniors the other day and there weren't many. He tweeted pics of the freshmen tonight and it was a full house! The youth in this program right now is unreal. I think we'll see some mistakes this season because of it, but this team could be really special in a couple of years.

thanks for posting. I checked out the Seniors post as well.

Two things that jumped out at me:
1) The difference in body mass between seniors and freshman is very noticeable. Do you even lift? yes, yes they do.
2) Fuente has bubble ice hockey! pure class

Oh, he means to have the guys over to share dinner..
I get it now.

This is going to be great for the ACC.

I know this is common practice and completely harmless, but I'm really surprised that the NCAA hasn't come down on this sort of thing as an impermissible benefit.

They'll wind up bringing the hammer for this harmless shit before UNC.

Going to your coaches house for dinner?

It wouldn't surprise me. I recall seeing a comment on here from a user who is/was an NCAA compliance person, who recounted the story of not being allowed to pick up an athlete in the rain and offer him/her a ride home because that would be considered an impermissible benefit, since that's not something they do for every student. I'm guessing Coach isn't inviting the whole student body to dinner at his house, so by the same idiotic, flawed logic, an overzealous NCAA tool could try to call these dinners a violation as well.

That was me and I was working in the Athletic Department at the time. I do believe boosters are able to have a team over for dinner once a semester or something. At least I know Liberty was doing that with a couple teams. They had to schedule in advance and go through some compliance hoops.

It happened to Beamer during Macho Harris' recruitment. The day Macho got burned was the same day that Beamer and Cavanaugh scheduled an in-home visit. They arrived to find Macho was burned and could not drive him to the ER. If I remember correctly, Harris' aunt drove their car to the ER and Frank stayed behind and went to the hospital when Macho's mom got home.

Someone send up the JUGS signal, to get this answered.

Yeah, hopefully not adding to that collection anytime soon.

Wow Patterson looks like a beast

Patterson is slouching to get into that picture!

Where is Hendon Hooker? Is he in the bottom picture on the right. Surprised he's not in the top picture which seems to be a group picture.

I just did a Dejuan Ellis google image search. Let's be clear about something:

DeJuan Ellis smiles for no camera! Ever.

Is it just me or does JJ look a little, um, "softer" than the other QB's?

I don't know about him per se, but his hands seem awfully smooth & soft (from the photo).

where can you get that "Exit Light Enter Night" shirt?

I totally want one of those GRIT shirts, have the feeling I would have to cripple myself in the VT weight room for me to even see one up close.

This is just like the season of Lost when they realized some in the group were not on the original flight manifest.

Damn Patterson is a fucking hoss

The group of seniors looked pretty small.

That happens though with transfers, injuries, early graduates.... off the field issues. There would have been another 5 or so guys a few months ago.

These dinner pics at CJF and Corn houses are great. Can anyone please provide captions or identify who is in each photo for these each of pics from CJF and Corn. For some reason, this honestly seems like the most inside information we have received about VT football in the last 6 months (and certainly the most positive news) and I can't figure out who anybody is (especially the freshmen). I figured someone out there knows who they are, plus would be fun exercise. Thanks in advance if someone can do it.

Let's hope it is a home-cooked meal or else that's a violation. Seriously, that is an NCAA rule.

it's been going on throughout the Beamer era. I would think if it was a violation we would have been caught long before.

It was a tongue-in-cheek reference to the vapid rule the NCAA has regarding meals for student-athletes. Fuente and Co. can have cookouts as long as the meal is prepared in the home. It is an NCAA violation to order food and serve it. Dont ask me why, but...NCAA!

Well unless he runs a mission BBQ out of his house it's not homemade food.

I mean, couldn't the program's own food and nutrition staff provide the food? They do cookouts on campus right? This can't be that hard to do and not be in violation of a rule

Sure if they use mission BBQ cups and serving containers.

don't bring your facts into this

What if he orders all this food the night before, he and his family eat dinner that night from the order, and the rest is put away in the fridge. Second night, Mrs. Fu serves leftovers. Leftovers are good, right?

Take the shortest route to the ball and arrive in bad humor.

I'd like to see the NCAA's in-depth definition of what constitutes a home cooked meal. Do you just need to add heat to something inside of the dwelling regardless of its state on arrival, or do all of the ingredients have to arrive on the property raw? Who gets to define raw? I could do this all day.

The Orange and Maroon you see, that's fighting on to victory.

question - in looking at twitter pics of new VT freshmen jerseys, I see Armani Chatman is #80. Not sure if #s are official or anything, but if so, does that mean he's starting out as a WR? I thought his true position was CB, and also was hoping we'd be trying every incoming athlete at CB, where the need IMO is dire. I think we've got enough WRs with Simmons, Turner, Mitchell and if Ellis is at QB, and if Peoples and Conner are safeties (not sure?), and Crossen is a Whip, and Beck is on offense, then does that only leave Waller and Thompson (coming off injury?) at CB, then that does not bode well for CB depth. I assumed Chatman, Ellis would both start at CB to get a shot at making the field this year with Webb out and not many other CB on the team.

HH4455

Chatman is listed as WR in most recent HokieSports roster, which was interesting to me too.

"Why gobble gobble chumps asks such good questions, I will never know." - TheFifthFuller

Gone are the days of Foster getting first pick of every dynamic athlete. Fuente is serious about having 6-8 WR who can play.

We will still have 6 or more CB's to work with this season
#1 Watts (SO),
#2 Farley(rFR) or Rodgers (rSO)
#4 Quillen (JR),
plus Ladler can play CB in a pinch

Incoming FR @CB are for sure Thompson and Waller, and then there are several others who could end up there during fall camp (Peoples, Ellis, etc)

thanks, but unfortunately, you are just confirming what I thought...this is really not a strong group at all...we're losing DBU...which sucks

HH4455

Eh, Farley switched over despite his dominant showing as a WR in the 2017 spring game. I'm sure they still divvy up the croots based on "best fit", since not all WRs have the temperament to play defense.

I wonder how the new Transfer rule will affect how coaches treat kids in season. Now that it's easier than every for kids to transfer, coaches may have to continue to 'recruit' the players already on the team. Maybe I'm a cynic, but that was the first thing I thought of when I saw this.
