Big Takeaways (paraphrasing):
- Godfrey doesn't know what to think about this team, despite reading everyone's reviews.
- Godfrey says we're a smart/reasonable fanbase (clearly he's never been to TKP.... just kidding), and says that most fans recognize that an 8 win season would be reasonable/respectable, even if we become frustrated with the team during the season.
- Godfrey thinks that as a program, we are better positioned than any of the other 'schools in Appalachia,' including WVU & Tennessee.
- Bill C says that despite the youth on defense, we have a relatively high floor because of Bud Foster. "Hard to imagine" a Bud Foster defense finishing out of the top 40 or so.
- Lots of talk about how strong the 'middle class' of the ACC is, and how difficult this conference will be to predict - we could have a bad season if the rest of the conference rises while we struggle with youth.
They also spent 3ish minutes towards the end of last week's episode (starting at about 1:18:15) talking about our current personnel issues are "freak occurrences" and not Fuente's fault, also mentioning that VT is scrappy and good as an underdog.

Can't wait to listen to this one. Godfrey also mentioned last week that we'd be considered a fringe national championship possibility in the next 5-10 years as long as Fuente sticks around.
Fuente needs to stick around like Dabo did at Clemson and I think we will get there. Ditto for Whit.

Growing up outside of VT country, and frequenting r/cfb has made me realize that we have a pretty large contingent of "neutral" cfb fans with a very casual rooting interest in our team. At the very least we seem to fall safely into that category of good enough to like, but not good enough to hate for outsiders. There are other factors of course, but r/cfb has done a few of these "casual rooting interest" type threads and I'm always surprised at the number of people who say they like VT.
All that to say, I think neutral commentators tend to like us as a dark horse contender in the future, but it's difficult to put a lot of stock into that, even though I agree with them.
Totally agree and usually I don't think it counts for much, but when the neutral party is an investigative journalist with tons of insider information and deep insight into how college football works, i put a bit more stock into it.
Just so I get it out there for the folks at PAPN (they have accounts on TKP right?), but 7 wins would be a disappointment. 8 is the minimum this year.
